Correct Sleeve Length For Dress Shirts, Jackets & Suits + 8 Mistakes To Avoid

07:21
See our full-fledged guide here: https://gentl.mn/sleeve-length-guide Get the tie I'm wearing in the vid: https://gentl.mn/2kvOVFW How long should your sleeve be on a regular shirt with french cuffs or double cuffs for cuff links? How about for Barrel cuffs? First, let's talk about the length of a French cuff shirt, it should always end at the root of your thumb. The shirt should have this length no matter whether your arm is hanging or angled. If your shirt gets shorter when you move your arm, that means that the armhole is too big and it simply shortens the shirt when you move. French cuffs form a horseshoe shape. Ideally, this should not be too pinched and tight. It should also not be so wide that you can put on cuff links and then put your shirt on afterwards by sliding your hand through the sleeve out. The button hole on your shirt cuff should be exactly in the middle of the cuff and the button hole should be towards the edge. In Britain sometimes, you find shirts that have the button hole moved towards the front edge of the cuff with the intention to show more of your cuff links underneath your jacket sleeve. In Europe, particularly in Germany or Austria, this is usually a feature reserved for black tie or white tie shirts. If you wear a wristwatch, you should always consider that when you get your cuff size because it has the fit underneath of it. A custom shirt usually accommodates for that. For barrel cuff shirts with buttons, the length rule is exactly the same, should reach the root of the thumb and they should fit tightly against your wrist, again, with enough space for a watch. Now that you know how long a shirt should be, the question is, how much shirt cuff should you show? If you go through history, and if you consult different people, you realize different lengths are considered proper by different people. For example, Allan Flusser suggests you show a half an inch of cuff, shirt cuff that is, underneath your jacket sleeve. On the other hand, Bernhard Roetzel, famous author of the book "The Gentleman" suggests just one cm which is about 2/5 of an inch. To learn more about him, check out our video interview here. If you go back to the 50's, you find guys that suggest just a quarter inch or about 0.6 cm or alternatively, 2 cm which is 4/5 if an inch or almost an entire inch. We, at Gentleman's Gazette, believe that it's a matter of taste and personally, I prefer anything in around half an inch, maybe a little bit more. What's more important than an exact measurement is proportion. Ideally, you want the amount of shirt cuff you show here to correspond to the amount of shirt you show on the back of your neck. So if you have half an inch on the back of your neck, you should show about half an inch on your shirt cuff. It's much easier to adjust the sleeve length of the jacket or a shirt, rather than adjusting it on the neck. If you decide you don't want to show any shirt cuff at all, make sure that the sleeve length is not too long but rather proper and ends right past the little crease in your hand or the root of your thumb. The other problem a lot of men face is having a large shirt cuff fit into a tapered jacket sleeve. That leaves you with a cuff bunching up and it simply looks terrible. if you have a barrel cuff with buttons on your shirt, you definitely want a more tapered jacket sleeve otherwise, it looks disproportionate. Traditionally, button cuffs were a bit more casual so with the more formal double-breasted suit, you would always wear French cuffs or double cuffs with cuff links. Today, you can basically wear anything you want but if you want to adhere to the classic dress code you should always go with barrel cuffs for more casual ensembles and French cuffs for more formal outfits. In my opinion, Prince Charles does a very good job in balancing his shirt cuffs, his sleeves, and his neck. Next time you see a picture of him or see him on TV, pay attention to that. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Want to stay updated? It is the same with master shirt makers. We pay meticulous attention when selecting the yarns that make up our fine cloths, just as if they were the freshest catch of the day. Most of the yarns selected for our fabrics have a minimum 80 cotton yarn count (2-ply), ensuring the most exquisite feel. We also frequently use 100 and 120 yarn count cotton, and have launched a series of sumptuous fabrics using an unprecedented 300 yarn count cotton. The superior single needle Our shirts are finished with single needle stitching, which is regarded as the sign of the finest quality shirts. Although it takes twice the time to sew compared to other common stitches, by rolling the edges inside the seams, the finished product has a smooth touch to the skin. Buttons and intricate interlining Shell buttons are the hallmark of luxury shirts. Buttons carved from natural shells each have a unique sheen, adding an understated but unmistakable sense of refinement. The selection of interlining needs to be carefully considered to achieve the ideal structured yet organically flowing form. We only use non-fusible interlining, in order to achieve a natural-looking soft touch to the collars and cuffs. Precise patterns, beautifully cut To achieve the best fit and hang, a skillfully prepared pattern is essential. In our search for the ultimate fit, we create an ideal balance between the dynamic of the fabric and the seamster’s individual technique, redrawing and adjusting the patterns to perfection. It is through the precision of our patterns that we are able to achieve the subtle profile and flattering silhouette of our shirts. Beautifully cut panels are then elaborately stitched together by seamsters of the highest skill and dexterity.

Jackets Required TV Presents: Episode 15 - Let's Talk Cuffs, Shirt Cuffs

01:45
Welcome to Jacket’s Required, hello, I’m Dominic Lacquaniti, designer and tailor. This week’s episode of Jackets required TV is about shirt cuffs. The cuffs of a shirt are the only thing visible when wearing a suit besides the collar, so they come in a close 2nd in importance. There are two main types of cuffs – Button which is for casual to formal wear And French which is more formal. First Button Cuffs – these are single cuffs that wrap around the arm and are buttoned. They can be single button or 2-button. 2-button allows for some adjustment. Shirts with 2 buttons and 2 buttonholes are called “Barrell Cuffs.” French Cuffs are more formal but are also perfectly appropriate for daily wear. A French Cuff is a double cuff, folded back, that is fastened with cufflinks. Cufflinks are required with this particular style. You should keep a seasonal selection of options on hand and if you are curious about what types of cufflinks to use please reference my earlier episode of Jackets Required TV, number 3 – Accessories Make the Man. Be sure to Subscribe to the Jacket’s Required You Tube channel and Facebook page to be notified when new episodes are available, And to see behind the scenes pictures and clips. Share with your stylish, and style-challenged friends, and be sure to let me know if you have a specific question or topic you’d like to see in the series. Thanks for watching. See you next week. Remember, looking good is between you and your tailor… Ciao http://www.roccostailor.com video produced by: http://www.guerillamedia.tv

Gioberti Mens Solid Color Dress Shirt Review

01:39
Loose standard cut, tight neck, retains heat, semi-stiff fabric, missing button. Amazon Affiliate Product Link: http://amzn.to/2adGclX I ordered the shirt in size small with 32-33" sleeve length and 14-14.5" neck, though I would have preferred 15-15.5 at the neck. The shirt is a 55/45 cotton-poly blend that’s a bit stiff and retains a ton of heat, so an undershirt is recommended if you tend to sweat. The stitching around the shirt panels is straight and clean, though I did notice a few loose thread ends particularly around the cuffs that needed to be snipped. The cuffs on this shirt are convertible, so there’s an extra hole between the buttons for use with cuff links as a French cuff as well as normal use as a square cuff. Other than that, the cut is standard which on me looks a bit baggy as I have a 35 inch chest and 29 inch waist; I typically wear slimmer/fitted shirts. The one flaw I noticed on mine was that the last button was missing. There was some thread where it was supposed to be so perhaps it cracked and fell off. Luckily, the shirt comes with a spare button, but it’s annoying that I had to use it already and try to match the thread color. As expected, the shirt fit a tiny bit baggy on me, particularly at the back, sides and under the arms. The sleeves are also quite loose, though the neck is somewhat tight at 14.5”. The one thing I will say is that the shirt does a nice job staying tucked when you raise your arms over your head due to all the extra fabric. The shirt traps heat though and in summer weather I was sweating within minutes outdoors. The color is nice and bright and the sleeves are the appropriate length for the size I ordered. They are also easy to roll up for a more casual look. Amazon Affiliate Product Link: http://amzn.to/2adGclX

11:11
Full Business Casual Guide, here: https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/business-casual-men-attire/?utm_campaign=social-lead-gen&utm_medium=video&utm_source=youtube&utm_content=business-casual-men&utm_term=youtube-description So how do we get from suit, dress shirt and tie to a very relaxed dress code with khakis and Polo shirts? Well, it all started with Aloha Fridays. This trend became quite popular in Hawaii and was eventually adopted on the mainland. Subsequently, people were familiar with it and wore it more often. So what does business casual mean in a nutshell? Basically, it means no suit but also no jeans. 1. White collar business casual - Bank, law firm, accounting firm The core piece in your wardrobe would be the dark navy blazer. Stick with just dark horn buttons. Stick with a single breasted and notched lapel look for a very normal appearance. You can also go with other kinds of sports coats that are patterned. When it comes to dress shirts, you should invest in some oxford shirts. They have a nice 2-tone appearance to them which makes them more casual and perfectly suited for business casual. When it comes to pants you can either wear chinos or khakis or dress pants in grey, light grey, mid-grey, not blue, especially if you have a navy blazer because it's too close but not the same. Basically, you want to have a certain amount of contrast. As far as accessories go, you can have a pocket square, you can go with a dressy watch or maybe with a naval strap to mix it up and make it more casual, depends on your specific office. When in doubt, always go a little more formal. For shoes and boots, you can basically wear anything in the color brown, reddish brown, or dark brown, maybe even tan. Since you're at the office, you should always bring a bag. A proper gentleman always carries a bag. It could be made of leather, of canvas, or a mix of the two but leave the backpack at home and only use it when you go hiking. 2. Service business casual or more relaxed office environments If you have client contact, chances are you are required to wear a jacket, sportscoat, blazer, at all times. If you're not, maybe you can get away with just wearing a dress shirt or a polo shirt. If you feel a sportcoat would be too formal, you can also try just to go with a vest because it's dressier than just a dress shirt but less formal than a jacket. For shirts, button down collars are good as well as long sleeved polo shirts. Neckties are entirely optional. At this level, denim or jeans are still not okay to wear, go with chinos or khakis. During the colder months of the year, sweaters of all kinds are great, you can either have them with a tie or without. Alternatively, have a cardigan or a sweater vest. Simply an ideal look for this environment because it's dressier than just having a shirt. As far as shoes go, I personally would suggest you go with classic shoes such as derbys, monk straps, loafers in brown because they work with everything and are just the perfect business look. Of course, the bag you should have can be a little more relaxed so it can be canvas, could be more weathered. Of course, a vintage leather patina bag is always appropriate and looks phenomenal. 3. Startup Business casual It's always to your advantage to put your best foot forward and that means, dressing up a bit more. Wear a polo shirt even if it's short sleeved. Rather than wearing shorts when it's warm consider maybe a pair of seersucker pants. Instead of crocs or flip-flops, switch over to boat shoes, you can also go with driving mocs and a sockless look. When it's cold outside, you can't just go to the office with just your blazer so ideal companions would be a trench coat in between seasons. When it gets much colder, you can get something like a peacoat which is shorter but it covers your jacket and it's very warm. If you want something lightweight that's more fun, you can think about something like a quilted jacket. Formal Shirt Upgrade

13:42
This video is intended to help those of you out in YouTube land who want to up your style a bit but are on a budget. Yes, I am a college student but I perform classical music quite a bit, which requires a tuxedo. I just recently picked up this shirt at my local tuxedo rental shop for $5.00, and after doing research on formal wear, I have decided to upgrade this shirt. It should be known that this shirt has a pique front (or bib), also called Marcella in the U.K. This shirt does not have french cuffs, but it is convertible so cuff links can be worn with it. Since the shirt has a peaked collar, it is now a capital shirt for a White Tie event, and it is also acceptable (and in some cases a more formal alternative shirt) for a Black Tie event. The other shirt being a pleated front with French (or double) cuffs and with a turn-down (or lay-down) collar. Anyhow, I hope you guys enjoy this video, and if you have any questions about the whole conversion or about Black Tie and White Tie in general, please feel free to ask in the comment section, or message me (however that works). I have accumulated quite a bit of knowledge about such topics. The music used is Prokofiev's Symphony No. 1, performed by the New York Philharmonic, directed by Leonard Bernstein. Here is the link to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMgAQL4VCvw Thanks for watching!

Big and Tall Clothing Tips & Men's Fashion Advice , Suits & Shirts for Short Chubby Guys

For more Big Guy Style Advice click here: http://gentl.mn/big-tall-style-tips If you wish to check out the accessories I"m wearing, click here: Knit tie: https://gentl.mn/2ltWgdn Carnation Boutonniere: https://gentl.mn/2kSqFPn When you're a portly man, you really have to pay attention to your fit. The problem is, it's very hard for you to find a good suit that fits you. Now when you buy a suit off the rack, you have to bear in mind that what happens when they size it just gets gradually bigger and smaller all over. That means if you get a large suit that fits around your belly, it's also going to be longer and wider in the chest. While you can shorten sleeves, you cannot shorten the length of the jacket because otherwise, everything looks disproportionate and especially the buttoning point gets too low which makes it look like you have short legs and everything looks unfavorable. If you are big and tall, it's relatively easy because there are specialized stores that provide suits for you. If that's the case, you can go off the rack and go to your alterations tailor afterward. If you are not tall but have a bit of a belly, you should really invest in a made to measure program or ideally, bespoke because you'll get much better results. Here are a few key points to pay attention to when you buy a suit: 1. Single-breasted, not a double breasted because that makes you look wider. 2. Skip the belt. With Suspenders, the pants will look more flattering & it will be more comfortable. 3. Pleats because they give you a little more room which not only makes everything look more proportional but it's also more comfortable when you sit. 4. Go with a vest but you have to make sure that the rise of your trousers is high enough so the vest covers the waistband of the pants otherwise, it looks odd. 5. Shoulders. Ideally, you should feel where your shoulder bone is and that's where the shoulder should end or just slightly extend. Again, this is a problem off the rack, also the shoulders get wider then you look like a football player and it makes you look even bigger than you actually are. 6. Avoid having overly tight garments especially on your buttoning point, you don't want to see any X wrinkles because it's a clear indication that the garment is too tight. 7. In terms of lapel width, I suggest you skip the skinny lapel because it just doesn't go with your built. 8. As for ties, you should go for a classic, 9cm, 3 1/2 width because it works better with your physique. 9. Always skip the middle vent because it's more likely to gap on your seat and then looks unfavorable. Go with 2 side vents that give you more room, looks more dapper, and you'll be more comfortable. 10. In terms of colors and patterns, I suggest you start out with solids because you don't want to wear something that is too flashy. 11. For shirts, a classic white or light blue is a perfect place to start. Later on, maybe you add some pink but always make sure to keep it pale and never go with strong colors because it will harmonize well with your darker suits. Customized shirts or made to measure shirts are very affordable and you can find them online starting at 30 bucks. of course, at that price, you really have to make compromises about the fabric quality but since fit is the most important thing, you can start there if you can't afford more and then slowly work your way up. 12. Get a slim, classic collar. Why? because it gives you a slimming effect. On the other hand, a widespread, cutaway collar makes you look bigger than you actually are. Go for something more substantial, bigger that is not too spread. 13. When it comes to tie knots, you should go for something medium sized, maybe a four in hand, oriental with a thicker interlining, or maybe a half Windsor but stay clear of the double Windsor. 14. Shirt Cuffs should fit tightly against your wrist and that you show about a quarter to half an inch of cuff, makes you look very dapper and if you want, you can also go with cuff links. 15. When posing for pictures, stand slightly at an angle because it will have a slimming effect on you. 16. Up your look with accessories such as a nice pocket square, or maybe even a boutonniere. 17. You should invest in a proper pair of Goodyear welted Oxfords or Derbys. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Want to stay updated?
