Webinar: Turbocharge Your PL SQL Code with Bulk Processing SFeuerstein

01:09:26
Presented by Steven Feuerstein, Oracle Corporation This session focuses on how to turbocharge the performance of multi-row SQL statements executed from within a PL/SQL using FORALL and BULK COLLECT. These features have been around since Oracle 8i, but many developers still don't use them or only scratch the surface of what is possible. The bulk processing webinar will focus on why these features were needed and how they work. Steven will start with simple examples and syntax and drill down into all nuances, including the LIMIT clause for BULK COLLECT and the SAVE EXCEPTIONS, INDICES OF, and VALUES OF clauses for FORALL. After attending this webinar, you will be able to both create new programs built around these features and also redesign existing programs safely to improve performance.

Oracle tutorial : Bulk Collect In Oracle PL SQL

09:59
Oracle tutorial : Bulk Collect In Oracle PL SQL oracle tutorial for beginners This Oracle tutorial video will show you how to use bulk collect in oracle. you can see how BULK COLLECT and FORALL concept is used. Bulk collect will improve the query performance. It avoids the context switching between SQL engine and plsql engine Bulk Collect In Oracle 1)When the PL/SQL runtime engine processes a block of code, it executes the procedural statements within its own engine, but passes the SQL statements on to the SQL engine. 2)The SQL layer executes the SQL statements and then returns information to the PL/SQL engine. 3)This transfer of control between the PL/SQL and SQL engines is called a context switch. Each time a switch occurs, there is additional overhead. 4)There are a number of scenarios in which many switches occur and performance degrades. 5)To Improve the performance we use the bulk collect. Webinar: Ten (Other) Top Tips for Improving PL/SQL Performance

01:08:03
Bulk processing (FORALL and BULK COLLECT), along with the function result cache, are the "big ticket" items when it comes to performance optimization with PL/SQL. But there's still more we can do to tweak our code for even better response times for our users. This third webast in the series starts with the automatic compiler optimization, showcases the extraordinary speediness of PGA data manipulation (a.k.a., package variables), and demonstrates the effect of the simple NOCOPY hint. We finish up with an introduction to pipelined table functions and some thoughts on optimizing your algorithms.

Top Nine Coding Guidelines for Oracle PL/SQL

08:00
My take, as of November 2015, of some of the most helpful guidelines to follow when writing PL/SQL code: 1. MAXSQL - maximize use of SQL first and foremost 2. SPOD - single point of definition 3. TRACE - production-available application-level tracing 4. LOG - consistent, encapsulated error logging 5. BULK - avoid row by row 6. OBVIOUS - make your code tell its own story, comment when it can't 7. NESTPROG - use nested subprograms 8. DECLARE - use declarative features of language 9. WARN - use compile-time warnings Accompanying blog post: http://stevenfeuersteinonplsql.blogspot.com/2015/10/your-ideas-for-more-important-plsql.html ======================================== Practically Perfect PL/SQL with Steven Feuerstein Copyright © 2015 Oracle and/or its affiliates. Oracle Data Pump

11:52
Oracle Data pump utility enables very fast bulk data and metadata movement between Oracle databases. It provides parallel Export and Import utilities (expdp and impdp) and Web-based Oracle Enterprise Manager Interface. 1. Data Pump Export and Import utilities are typically much faster than the original Export and Import Utilities. A single thread of Data Pump Export is about twice as fast as original Export, while Data Pump Import is 15-45 times fast than original Import. 2. Data Pump jobs can be restarted without loss of data, whether or not the stoppage was voluntary or involuntary. 3. Data Pump jobs support fine-grained object selection. Virtually any type of object can be included or excluded in a Data Pump job. 4. Data Pump supports the ability to load one instance directly from another (network import) and unload a remote instance (network export).
