*ESL Activities**Classroom Activities* - Mirror Words

01:09
http://sharpenthatpencil.com Divide your students into groups of 2-4. The higher the level of the students, the smaller the groups should be. The teacher chooses words and writes them on the board, for example, BOAT. The students need to write the word boat vertically down, on the other the reverse mirror image. The objective of the activity is to write words that start with the first and last letters provided from the word, for example, BOAT, such as below. BUT is created from B (First letter) ... T (Last letter). Continue this activity with as many words as you like. Please leave a comment and let me know if you will use this activity.

The Teachers' Room: Fun collocation activities

04:00
Collocations are commonly put together pairings of words. They can be weakly or strongly related. Learning them will greatly enhance your students' use of vocabulary and speaking skills. So here are a few fun and memorable activities you can use to practise them. Collocation race The easiest way to practise collocations is to have students sort them into columns on the board. Split the board into columns with half a collocation as a heading. Then call out, hand out or provide the other half and have students put them in the right columns. To make this competitive, create two teams and have a race. Collocation place Divide your teaching space into several areas and assign one half of a collocation to each area. Then call out the other half. Students must move to the space which represents the matching collocation pair. Once they get there, have them make a sentence using the collocation. Collocation aim Great for young learners, or just doing something a bit different! Get the students to screw up paper into balls. Draw targets on the board and assign them a collocation half. Then call out the other half and have students throw their balls at the correct target. Or, if you have a class that gets on well, you can assign students as targets for a bit of fun. Collocation mingle Print collocations on cards – half of the pair on one card and the other half on another. Distribute these cards to students and have them mingle with each other to try and find their collocation partner. To make things a bit more challenging, use one or two collocations that could have more than one possible pairing. Collocation gap fill For higher level students, or those doing academic work. Take an authentic text, find relevant collocations and blank out one half of each collocation pair. Then give the students the text and ask them to work together to complete it using whatever word they think is correct. Warm Up Activities - "Word Chain"

00:58
More warm-up activities: http://eslinsider.com/how-to-teach-english-videos/warm-up-icebreakers ESL Warm Up Activities - "Word Chain" is a fun and simple warm-up activity for teaching kids. It was probably one of the most frequently used games for warm-up. It's just fun tossing a ball around. I shot this video in Taiwan. I believe that was in Koahsiung. I just worked in the school as a substitute for a day. That's a buxiban also known as a private language school. That class was small, but they can get bigger of course. _____________________________________________________ ESLinsider serves up fresh resources for ESL teachers: how-to videos, online TEFL courses, interviews with ESL teachers in Asia, ebooks and a blog. Warm-Up Activities - "Teacher Says"

01:14
http://www.course.eslinsider.com Get certified to teach English to kids with this online TEFL course: This is a fun warm-up activity for teaching very young children. It would probably work for some up until age 10. It works best for the very young and low level students. It's good for teaching body parts and commands. "Teacher Says" is a super fun activity to do with young kids. It works especially well with Kindergarteners to about 3rd grade. When their level gets to high it becomes boring since the kids can follow along and understand. Kids love this game and it's a way also to practice commands, body parts and basic classroom exercises. This video was filmed in a kindergarten in Sapadong, Korea. _____________________________________________________ ESLinsider serves up fresh resources for ESL teachers: how-to videos, online TEFL courses, interviews with ESL teachers in Asia, ebooks and a blog. Icebreakers & Warm-Up Activities - "Line Up"

01:02
http://eslinsider.com/how-to-teach-english-videos/warm-up-icebreakers Learn more icebreakers & warm up activities at the link above. "Line Up" is a great icebreaker to use for the first day. You can always modify the questions to suit your needs too. This was filmed in a public school in Changwon, Korea. I usually taught kids, but one day a week I taught one class with adults. The adults above were parents of the children I taught. Except for the one closest to me facing you with the glasses. She was my co-teacher. I am really happy I don't work with her any more. It was kinda fun teaching adults for a little variety. You can talk with them sometimes more about stuff. Then other times not really as some can be kinda closed. I generally prefer teaching kids. They're just more fun and free. Check at the site for more icebreakers, warm-up activities and more on teaching English in Asia. _____________________________________________________ ESLinsider serves up fresh resources for ESL teachers: how-to videos, online TEFL courses, interviews with ESL teachers in Asia, ebooks and a blog. Icebreakers - ESL Activities - "Categramble"

02:06
http://eslinsider.com/how-to-teach-english-videos/warm-up-icebreakers Categramble is a fun icebreaker or activity to use. It shows how we are all a little different, but at the same time similar. It's kind of fun to think about how some people put their right leg in their pants first or see who can't roll their tongue. This was shot in a public school in Korea. I usually taught kids, but one day a week I taught adults. They were parents of the students in that school. Except for one who was my co-teacher. I am happy I don't work with her anymore. _____________________________________________________ ESLinsider serves up fresh resources for ESL teachers: how-to videos, online TEFL courses, interviews with ESL teachers in Asia, ebooks and a blog. Teacher Sam English Camp Games. Days of the week, Activities. ESL games and lesson plans.

Join this Facebook group: ฝรั่งสอนภาษาอังกฤษให้คนไทย Farang teaches English to Thai people https://www.facebook.com/groups/FarangSamEnglish/ Teacher Sam's English Camp Games เกมส์ภาษาอังกฤษของครูแซมที่ค่ายภาษาอังกฤษ. Today's topic is "Days of the week" (Class of 19 students). หัวข้อของวันนี้คือ "วันของสัปดาห์" Kids love to race each other. In this game they practice speaking about activities and practice listening for days of the week. 1. Split the class into two teams. Give 7 students from each team a coloured ball. Each colour means a day of the week. Yellow = Monday, Pink = Tuesday, Green = Wednesday, Orange = Thursday Blue = Friday, Purple = Saturday, Red = Sunday. 2. The teacher asks one student "What day do you (say any activity)?" e.g. "What day do you go swimming?" 3. All students with balls must listen carefully. The student says any day at random. e.g. "Monday" 4. One student from each team with a yellow ball (for Monday) must quickly run around the circle in a clockwise direction until they get back to their chair. 5. First student back to their chair gets 1 point. 6. The winning teams is the one with the most points after a set time or first to 10 points wins. 7. After a student has run around they should give their ball to a student that doesn't have a ball, so that they can take part in the game. Game 2 1. Write on the board, the days of the week with activities next to them e.g Monday - Swimming, Tuesday - Fishing, Wednesday - English class.... 2. The teacher say "Today I am (choose an activity from the board)" e.g. "Today I am going fishing" 3. Student must quickly check on the board, what day do I go "fishing". In this case Tuesday. So one student from each team with pink balls (for Tuesday) runs around the circle and the first student back to their chair gets 1 point. ***Alternatively instead of running, students could throw the ball into a basket in the middle of the circle. They can throw the ball as many times as they need but must always throw from their chair. First student to get the ball in the basket gets 1 point.
