How to create an awesome navigation bar with HTML & CSS

19:02
A tutorial that takes a look at how to create a nice looking nav bar with a cool little hover effect for the nav items, using HTML and CSS. This was the very first video I ever put up on YouTube, and while it's aged well, I've made an updated version that is responsive: https://youtu.be/8QKOaTYvYUA I've put this on Codepen: http://codepen.io/kevinpowell/pen/GrLKNo I start this video off with a quick look at how to actually write the HTML for a navigation bar, follow it up with the simple styling of the navigation with CSS and then wrap it all up with how to add the hover effect in there using some fun little hover tricks. In this session, we will consider another such attribute common in some tags, that is style attribute. Please note that to have hands on experience, modify the code accordingly. The HTML Style Attribute is for setting different styles of an HTML element. To apply style on supported HTML element, write the HTML element and define the style property as the syntax shown. Syntax - <tagname style="property:value;"> The property defines, what style is to be set for the HTML element. The property is something which is called CSS property or cascading style sheet. CSS is used to define all the style properties of HTML document. The value in style attribute is a CSS value. Let’s learn more about the style attribute, properties and values. Example <h1 style="color: blue;">This is a heading</h1> <p style="color: red;">This is a paragraph. </p> HTML Fonts The font-family property defines the font to be used for an HTML element. The syntax is to define property font family as shown with value as any color Syntax - <tagname style="font-family:value;"> This example sets font as verdana and courier. Example <h1 style="font-family:verdana;">This is a heading</h1> <p style="font-family:courier;">This is a paragraph.</p> HTML Text Size The font-size property defines the text size for an HTML element. The syntax is to define property font size as shown with value as any color The syntax is to define property font size as shown with value as size Syntax - <tagname style="font-size:value;"> This example sets the header font size to 3 times and paragraph font size to 160 percent. Example <h1 style="font-size:300%;">This is a heading</h1> <p style="font-size:160%;">This is a paragraph.</p> HTML Text Alignment The text-align property defines the horizontal text alignment for an HTML element. The syntax is to define property text alignment as shown with value as center, left, right Syntax - <tagname style="text-align:value;"> This example sets the text alignment as center. Example <h1 style="text-align:center;">Centered Heading</h1> <p style="text-align:center;">Centered paragraph.</p> Well Done! Here is what we want to achieve 1. When Show password checkbox IS NOT CHECKED, the password should be masked 2. When Show password checkbox IS CHECKED, the password should be in clear text and visible to the user One of the simplest ways of achieving this is by changing the type attribute of the password field depending on the checked status of Show password checkbox 1. If the Show password checkbox is CHECKED change the type to text 2. If the Show password checkbox is NOT CHECKED change the type to password Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol The following is the HTML and jQuery code <html> <head> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#cbShowPassword').click(function () { $('#txtPassword').attr('type', $(this).is(':checked') ? 'text' : 'password'); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> Password : <input type="password" id="txtPassword" /> <input type="checkbox" id="cbShowPassword" />Show password </body> </html> The problem with the above approach is that it does not work in IE 8 and earlier versions. This is because with IE8 and earlier versions the type attribute of input elements cannot be changed once set. The following code works in all browsers including IE8 and earlier versions. When Show password checkbox is clicked 1. Retrieve the value the from the password textbox and store it in a variable for later use. 2. Delete the password input filed. 3. If the "Show password" checkbox is CHECKED, then add a new input filed of type text, else add a new input filed of password. In both the cases set the value attribute of the input element = the variable created in Step 1. <html> <head> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#cbShowPassword').click(function () { var currentPassowrdFiled = $('#txtPassword'); var currentPassword = currentPassowrdFiled.val(); currentPassowrdFiled.remove(); if ($(this).is(':checked')) { $(this).before('<input type="text" id="txtPassword" value="' + currentPassword + '">'); } else { $(this).before('<input type="password" id="txtPassword" value="' + currentPassword + '">'); } }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> Password : <input type="password" id="txtPassword" /> <input type="checkbox" id="cbShowPassword" />Show password </body> </html>

freeCodeCamp Basic HTML5 Nest an Anchor - Head and Body of HTML Doc 2

26:11
In this video we finish the rest of the Basic HTML and HTML5 section of freeCodeCamp. We start off by nesting an anchor element within a paragraph element. After that we learn about dead links and how you can use one when you know you want to link something, but are not sure where to link to. We also learn how to make our images link to other pages which is simply nesting an img tag within an anchor tag. We create an ordered and unordered list. A form is submited with inputs of type text and a submit button. We are taught that a form can take an action attribute which we set to a URL we want to send the form data to. We create radio and checkbox buttons and learn how to give them names to categoroize them correctly. We lastly learn of the improtance of the !DOCTYPE html declaration.

HTML5 Tutorial For Beginners - part 1 of 6 - Getting Started

07:17
http://www.LittleWebHut.com This series of videos demonstrates how to write HTML code that is compliant with the new HTML5 standards. These videos are good for beginners. Part 1: This video describes HTML tags, elements, and attributes. The new HTML5 doctype declaration is shown as well as the method for specifying the character encoding for the document. The basic structure of an HTML document is also shown. This video introduces the html, head, meta, title, body, and p tags. Part 2: This video describes how to use text. The p tag is demonstrated and the heading tags are introduced. The br tag is also shown. This video also touches on the importance of CSS. A quick demonstration of CSS is shown to center some text and to change its color. In older versions of HTML, text could be centered by using the align attribute. However, this attribute is deprecated and is not valid HTML5. While the align attribute may still work in your browser, it is not compliant with HTML5 standards. Therefore, learning CSS can be very beneficial when working with HTML5 code. Part 3: This video demonstrates how to use images and hyperlinks. The difference between relative and absolute addressing is covered. This video shows the height and width attributes used with the img tag. In older versions of HTML, the height and width attributes could be specified in pixels or as a percentage. However, it is not valid HTML5 to specify these values as a percentage. If a percentage value is desired then CSS can be used. Part 4: This video introduces 2 elements that are new to HTML5, the audio and video elements. While older browsers don't support these new elements, the popular newer browsers do. Link to the code used in this video. http://www.littlewebhut.com/html5/the_basics/

jQuery checked selector

10:35
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/03/jquery-checked-selector.html In this video we will discuss the jQuery :checked selector. The :checked selector selects all checked checkboxes or radio buttons. Let us understand this with an example. Selects all checked radio button elements $('input[type="radio"]:checked') Example : When you click the submit button without selecting any radio button, "No radio button checked" message should be displayed. When you click the submit button after a radio button is checked, then a message stating "Male is checked" or "Female is checked" should be displayed. Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN symbol. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#btnSubmit').click(function () { var result = $('input[type="radio"]:checked'); if (result.length > 0) { $('#divResult').html(result.val() + " is checked"); } else { $('#divResult').html("No radio button checked"); } }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> Gender : <input type="radio" name="gender" value="Male">Male <input type="radio" name="gender" value="Female">Female <br /><br /> <input id="btnSubmit" type="submit" value="submit" /> <br /><br /> <div id="divResult"> </div> </body> </html> Selects all checked checkbox elements $('input[type="checkbox"]:checked') Example : When you click the submit button without checking any checkbox, "No checkbox checked" message should be displayed. When you click the submit button after checking a checkbox, then a message stating the number of checkboxes checked and their values should be displayed. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('#btnSubmit').click(function () { var result = $('input[type="checkbox"]:checked'); if (result.length > 0) { var resultString = result.length + " checkboxe(s) checked<br/>"; result.each(function () { resultString += $(this).val() + "<br/>"; }); $('#divResult').html(resultString); } else { $('#divResult').html("No checkbox checked"); } }); }); </script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> Skills : <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="JavaScript" />JavaScript <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="jQuery" />jQuery <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="C#" />C# <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="VB" />VB <br /><br /> <input id="btnSubmit" type="submit" value="submit" /> <br /><br /> <div id="divResult"> </div> </body> </html>

jQuery input vs input

06:29
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/03/jquery-input-vs-input.html In this video we will discuss the difference between $(input) and $(:input) selectors $(:input) selects all input, textarea, select and button elements where as $(input) just selects elements with an input tag. The following is the HTML used in the examples. Replace < with LESSTHAN symbol and > with GREATERTHAN Symbol. <html> <head> <title></title> <script src="jquery-1.11.2.js"></script> </head> <body style="font-family:Arial"> First Name : <input type="text" value="John" /> <br /><br /> Last Name : <input type="text" value="Major" /> <br /><br /> Gender : <input type="radio" name="gender" checked="checked" value="Male">Male <input type="radio" name="gender" value="Female">Female <br /><br /> Skills : <input type="checkbox" name="skills" checked="checked" value="JavaScript" />JavaScript <input type="checkbox" name="skills" checked="checked" value="jQuery" />jQuery <input type="checkbox" name="skills" value="C#" />C# <br /><br /> Country: <select> <option selected="selected" value="USA">USA</option> <option value="India">India</option> <option value="UK">UK</option> </select> <br /><br /> Summary : <br /> <textarea>I am a Senior Dot Net Developer with 10 years experience</textarea> <br /><br /> <input type="submit" value="submit" /> </body> </html> Now we want to get the text value from all the textboxes. On this page we have 2 textboxes 1. First Name 2. Last Name jQuery code to get textbox value using $(input) <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $('input[type="text"]').each(function () { alert($(this).val()); }); }); </script> jQuery code to get textbox value using $(:input) <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $(':input[type="text"]').each(function () { alert($(this).val()); }); }); </script> Which one is better for performance $('input[type="text"]') or $(':input[type="text"]') $('input[type="text"]') is better for performance over $(':input[type="text"]'). This is because $(':input[type="text"]') needs to scan all input elements, textarea, select etc, where as $('input[type="text"]') scans only input elements. So if you want to find elements with an input tag, it is always better to use $('input[type="text"]') over $(':input[type="text"]')
