48 Hours in Jordan: Petra, the Dead Sea, and Falafel!

10:00
48 Hours in Jordan: Petra, the Dead Sea, and Falafel A trip to Jordan is on every traveler’s bucket list - as it should be! We got lucky enough to visit a little bit of the country during a weekend recently - we literally spent 48 hours in Jordan - but we have so much more to see in Jordan and can't wait to go back to see more of it. From the beautiful wonder of the world Petra to Amman’s most famous falafel joint, through Wadis and the Dead Sea, here’s our full guide to 48 Hours in Jordan. 48 Hours in Jordan | Day 1: Petra and Amman As you guys know, we both work full time, so we had to adapt this itinerary to fit in exactly 48 hours - from Thursday evening after work to Sunday morning back to work. We left the office and headed straight to DXB Airport, where we boarded the Royal Jordanian flight at 9.30 direction Amman. Arrived in Jordan at 11.40pm, we picked up SIM Cards as we planned to drive and we needed directions at all times (and to post Insta Stories, let’s be honest). Grab a SIM card at the Zain stand by the Starbucks when you land, it’s cheap, easy and reliable 4G! Once done, we swang by Sixt to pick up our rental car and got going - no time to waste! If you’re confident in your driving skills, we really recommend you to do this. The roads are well lit and safe, and the drive is just short of 3 hours, so make sure to drink plenty of coffee and prepare your best road trip hits! Once we arrived in Petra, we had a couple hours to get a snooze (in the car, but there’s also a Movenpick right by the entrance of Petra if you feel like taking a longer sleep!). The best tip we can give you, however, is to be right there at 6am at the opening of Petra. Be the first there, and avoid the crowd of tourists coming later in the day. This is really the best piece of advice we’ve received, and we reeeeally recommend you do the same! Once in Petra, we started the short 2km walk to the Treasury. The Treasury is the iconic facade you imagine when thinking about Petra. That feeling when you see it appear at a corner is incredible - especially if the sun is just rising! We hung around the Treasury for a little bit, but shortly began our hike towards the Monastery, which is the highest point in Petra. Walking through Petra made us realise how little knowledge we had about it - who built Petra? When was it build? What IS IT? After a quick Google search (oops), we continued on our way to the Monastery, stopping here and there to drink tea with our new best friend Rosa, and buy a couple things on the rise of the road. Once we arrived to the top, what a sight this was! The Monastery was absolutely empty, so again, make sure to be the first up there - really worth walking a little bit faster (though please don’t use the donkeys!!!). Tip: Get to Petra at the opening at 6am! After drinking a coffee and sharing a few moments in the calm with the cutest stray dog, we decided to explore around and finally, head back down. Sea of Food at the Dead Sea

19:34
On Day 8 of our trip to Jordan, we drove from Wadi Rum to the Dead Sea. But in the morning before we left, we first had a camel ride in the desert. It was amazing to see Wadi Rum from the back of a camel, such a peaceful way to experience Wadi Rum. Once we reached the Dead Sea we enjoyed a couple of excellent Lebanese meals. 01:37 Camel Ride at Wadi Rum - Along with a truck safari, one of the best ways to see Wadi Rum is my taking a camel ride. Due to the rain, we couldn’t ride camels the day before, so we decided to ride today in the morning. Although it quite hurt my legs, it was well worth it, and a very fun way to see Wadi Rum. After having breakfast at the tented camp, and riding the camels, we jumped in the car and started driving towards the Dead Sea. 05:08 Mount Nebo - 1 JD ($1.41) - On the way to the Dead Sea, we stopped off at Mount Nebo, the place where God showed Moses the promised land with a view overlooking an expansive area of land, we could even see the Dead Sea. It was an amazing view. 05:59 Ocean Restaurant (Dead Sea) - As soon as we reached the Dead Sea, we were all very hungry, so we stopped at Ocean Restaurant, a Lebanese restaurant with a view of the sea. All of a sudden they started bringing masses of mezze to our table, until the point where there was literally not a single empty space on our table. There were so many different dips and appetizer dishes to choose from including cheese sticks, kibbeh, heart of palm salad, hummus, grape leaves, tabbouleh, and moutabel. There were so many different Lebanese mezze dishes that I forgot all about the Dead Sea! For our main dish at Ocean Restaurant we had a dish called sayadieh, which is a seafood platter including fish and biryani rice served with a tomato sauce. There was both fried and grilled fish, and what I really liked in the dish was that it was served with a deep fried onion, which tasted fantastic. For dessert, they brought out giant plates of fruit and a variety of different desserts including osmalieh and aish el saraya. 13:13 Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort - After our incredible late lunch, we drove to the Crown Plaza Resort, and checked in. We stayed just for one night. 14:07 Burj Al Hamam - Lebanese Restaurant at Crown Plaza Hotel - For dinner we ate at Burj Al Hamam, one of the most well known restaurant names in Lebanese food in Jordan. Again, we were served an impressive array of different mezze starter dishes, but they served us a few dishes that were different from what we had eaten for lunch including kibbeh nayyeh. I’ve always been a huge fan of different types of raw meat dishes, and kibbeh nayyeh is the Lebanese version of raw minced beef mixed with a variety of spices. It’s typically eaten with garlic sauce and olive oil to garnish, and scooped up with pieces of bread. It was amazing. For our main dish we had mixed grill, including kebabs, lamb pieces, and chicken, and then kebab khashkhash, kebabs in tomato sauce. Again, the food was excellent. -- Check out my Amman, Jordan Travel Guide: http://migrationology.com/travel-guides/amman-jordan/ (Including where to stay, what to see, safety information, and extra tips) MY WEBSITES: Migrationology.com: http://migrationology.com/ EatingThaiFood.com: http://eatingthaifood.com/ TravelByYing.com: http://travelbyying.com/ T-shirts & Food Guides: https://migrationology.com/store/ Resources: http://migrationology.com/travel-resources/ SOCIAL MEDIA: Snapchat: @migrationology Instagram: https://instagram.com/migrationology Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/migrationology Thank you very much for watching this Jordan food and travel video! --

Jordan - Travel Video - Amman City Tour, Petra Hiking, Wadi Rum Safari and Dead Sea Tour

03:58
This is Jordan’s Travel Video which I shot by iPhone and Zhuyin Smooth Q Gimbal, no DSLR camera. Jordan is one of the Safest Haven in the most conflicted zone on Earth. It's bordered by Israel to the west, by Syria to the north, by Iraq to the east and by Saudi Arabia to the south. Our itinerary covered Amman City, Petra, Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Jerash and Dead Sea. Amman is the capital and largest city of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan which forms a great base for exploring not just Jordan, but the wider region as well and does. Petra, the fabled "rose red city, half as old as time", is a well known ancient Nabataean city in the south of Jordan. Due to its breathtaking grandeur and fabulous ruins, Petra was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985. Wadi Rum is quite isolated and largely inhospitable to settled life. The only permanent inhabitants are several thousand Bedouin nomads and villagers. This is known as Mars on Earth because of the reddish and isolated landscape. Jerash is known for the ruins of the Greco-Roman city of Gerasa. Floating in Daed Sea although remained as the best experience of our Jordan Trip. The Dead Sea, Jordan | Adventure Travel, Tours & Holidays

00:42
For more information about our Jordan tours, visit On The Go Tours: http://www.onthegotours.com/Jordan The lowest point on the earth’s surface, the Dead Sea is a natural phenomena and gift of Mother Nature. Straddling the border between Israel and Jordan, the mineral content of this saltwater lake tops out at 33%, or about six times as salty as a normal ocean. Fed by the River Jordan, it’s called the Dead Sea as nothing resides in it. There are no fish, seaweed or plants of any kind in or around the water. What you’ll see on the shores are clusters of white salt crystals. No ordinary table salt, the salts found in the Dead Sea are mineral salts, just like you find in the oceans of the world, only in extreme concentrations. Bobbing about like a cork on the Dead Sea is one of those ‘must-do’ adventures in life! On The Go’s Jordan group tours, tailor made holidays and private journeys reveal the very best of this incredible country and can be made to suit all styles of travel. Travel Jordan - The Dead Sea

01:03
Take a tour of Dead Sea in Jordan -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The Dead Sea is really one of the most remarkable spots on earth. With over 1300 feet below sea level, it is the lowest point on the earth's surface. It is also one of the saltiest places, with a composition of 35% salinity. This sometimes creates fascinating and bizarre crystalline formations around the Dead Sea's shoreline. The salinity of the lake is so high that very few plants or animals can survive. About the only things living in the Dead Sea are the human tourists who come here. It's an idyllic place to relax, with white beaches and bright blue water.

Dead Sea - Tour of my Resort, Saltwater and Floating

03:35
The Dead Sea is the saltiest body of water on Earth. People think and say that you swim here, but actually you float. I crossed the border from Jordan via Eilat and then took a bus to Ein Bokek. The bus dropped me off directly in the hotel parking lot of Crowne Plaza hotel, where I spent 2 nights. The hotel was really great and its a spa hotel as well. Firstly, the beach is directly behind the hotel, so that's awesome. The water was 22C or so, and felt like a cool pool. At the end of December 2016, I could easily spend the recommend 15-20 minutes at a time floating in the water. The Crowne Plaza Hotel was 250 USD per night. They also have an indoor, heated salt pool which mimics the sea in case you prefer to be inside. Overall, the Dead Sea is a must do on your list. Very easy to get to from Eilat, or Jerusalem and should be 2.5 hours or so depending on traffic, but could be as high as 4 hours journey. HOLY LAND - SEA OF GALILEE ⛴, CAPERNAUM🏺, JORDAN RIVER 🌊 - VLOG

06:19
We travel to the Holy Land to visit the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, and the River Jordan and follow Jesus' footsteps. We start at the Sea of Galilee, the site where Jesus walked on water and performed many miracles. It is the largest lake in Israel. We swim in the sea before embarking on a Sea of Galilee Boat Ride with Troy Tours. Here, we read the excerpt of the Bible where the Sea of Galilee was mentioned. Then we visit The Yigal Allon Center to see the "Jesus Boat" an ancient boat from the time of Jesus, found miraculously in the 1980s. We also visit the Sermon on the Mount area, where Jesus gave his famous sermon. Next we visit Capernaum, where Jesus performed his healings and the site of a 4th century synagogue. Lastly, we visit the River Jordan, the baptismal site of Jesus. The River Jordan is where many people travel to be baptized. The River Jordan flows to the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea, Israel tour - Floating at the Spa

Zahi Shaked A tour guide in Israel and his camera. +972 54 6905522 [email protected] "Dead Sea" , "Sea of Salt", also called the Salt Sea, is a salt lake bordering Jordan to the east, and Israel and the West Bank to the west. Its surface and shores are 422 metres (1,385 ft) below sea level,[2] the lowest elevation on the Earth's surface on dry land. The Dead Sea is 378 m (1,240 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. It is also one of the world's saltiest bodies of water, with 33.7% salinity. Only Lake Assal (Djibouti), Garabogazköl and some hypersaline lakes of the McMurdo Dry Valleys in Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond) have a higher salinity. It is 8.6 times more salty than the ocean.[4] This salinity makes for a harsh environment where animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 67 kilometres (42 mi) long and 18 kilometres (11 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River. The Dead Sea has attracted visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. Biblically, it was a place of refuge for King David. It was one of the world's first health resorts (for Herod the Great), and it has been the supplier of a wide variety of products, from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers. People also use the salt and the minerals from the Dead Sea to create cosmetics and herbal sachets. In 2009, 1.2 million foreign tourists visited on the Israeli side. The sea has a density of 1.24kg/L, making swimming difficult. The Dead Sea is an endorheic lake located in the Jordan Rift Valley, a geographic feature formed by the Dead Sea Transform (DST). This left lateral-moving transform fault lies along the tectonic plate boundary between the African Plate and the Arabian Plate. It runs between the East Anatolian Fault zone in Turkey and the northern end of the Red Sea Rift offshore of the southern tip of Sinai. The Jordan River is the only major water source flowing into the Dead Sea, although there are small perennial springs under and around the Dead Sea, creating pools and quicksand pits along the edges.[7] There are no outlet streams. Rainfall is scarcely 100 mm (3.9 in) per year in the northern part of the Dead Sea and barely 50 mm (2.0 in) in the southern part. The Dead Sea zone's aridity is due to the rainshadow effect of the Judean Hills. The highlands east of the Dead Sea receive more rainfall than the Dead Sea itself. To the west of the Dead Sea, the Judean Hills rise less steeply and are much lower than the mountains to the east. Along the southwestern side of the lake is a 210 m (690 ft) tall halite formation called "Mount Sodom".There are two contending hypotheses about the origin of the low elevation of the Dead Sea. The older hypothesis is that it lies in a true rift zone, an extension of the Red Sea Rift, or even of the Great Rift Valley of eastern Africa. A more recent hypothesis is that the Dead Sea basin is a consequence of a "step-over" discontinuity along the Dead Sea Transform, creating extension of the crust with consequent subsidence. Around three million years ago, what is now the valley of the Jordan River, Dead Sea, and Wadi Arabah was repeatedly inundated by waters from the Mediterranean Sea. The waters formed in a narrow, crooked bay which was connected to the sea through what is now the Jezreel Valley. The floods of the valley came and went depending on long scale climate change. The lake that occupied the Dead Sea Rift, named "Lake Sodom", deposited beds of salt, eventually coming to be 3 km (1.9 mi) thick. Approximately two million years ago, the land between the Rift Valley and the Mediterranean Sea rose to such an extent that the ocean could no longer flood the area. Thus, the long bay became a lake.Masada (Hebrew מצדה, pronounced Metzada (help•info), from מצודה, metzuda, "fortress") is the name for a site of ancient palaces and fortifications in the South District of Israel on top of an isolated rock plateau, or horst, on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea. After the First Jewish-Roman War a siege of the fortress by troops of the Roman Empire led to the mass suicide of the Sicarii rebels, who preferred death to surrender. It is located about 20 km east of Arad

Zahi Shaked A tour guide in Israel and his camera [email protected] +972-54-6905522 tel סיור עם מורה הדרך ומדריך הטיולים צחי שקד 0546905522 My name is Zahi Shaked In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide. My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land. Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity. In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters) Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

http://www.petranightstours.com Petra, the famous rock city, is located in the south of Jordan, and was created by the Nabataean Arabs. Since 1985 Petra belongs to the World Heritage Sites and since 2007 it is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The Nabateans settled here more than 2000 years ago and carved temples, tombs and houses in the red rose sandstone. When this nomadic Arabs showed up on the historical stage is not clear, the first definite historical mention of them is in 312 BC. They gained power through the control of the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked Asia and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome. In the first century BC King Aretas III extended the Nabatean Empire to Damascus. Important for the Nabatean success was their ability to create a sophisticated water supply system with channels and cisterns. http://www.petranightstours.com
