What is TECHNOLOGY LIFE-CYCLE? What does TECHNOLOGY LIFE-CYCLE mean? TECHNOLOGY LIFE-CYCLE meaning - TECHNOLOGY LIFE-CYCLE definition - TECHNOLOGY LIFE-CYCLE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. The technology life-cycle (TLC) describes the commercial gain of a product through the expense of research and development phase, and the financial return during its "vital life". Some technologies, such as steel, paper or cement manufacturing, have a long lifespan (with minor variations in technology incorporated with time) whilst in other cases, such as electronic or pharmaceutical products, the lifespan may be quite short. The TLC associated with a product or technological service is different from product life-cycle (PLC) dealt with in product life-cycle management. The latter is concerned with the life of a product in the marketplace with respect to timing of introduction, marketing measures, and business costs. The technology underlying the product (for example, that of a uniquely flavoured tea) may be quite marginal but the process of creating and managing its life as a branded product will be very different. The technology life cycle is concerned with the time and cost of developing the technology, the timeline of recovering cost, and modes of making the technology yield a profit proportionate to the costs and risks involved. The TLC may, further, be protected during its cycle with patents and trademarks seeking to lengthen the cycle and to maximize the profit from it. The product of the technology may be a commodity such as polyethylene plastic or a sophisticated product like the integrated circuits used in a smartphone. The development of a competitive product or process can have a major effect on the lifespan of the technology, making it shorter. Equally, the loss of intellectual property rights through litigation or loss of its secret elements (if any) through leakages also work to reduce a technology's lifespan. Thus, it is apparent that the management of the TLC is an important aspect of technology development. Most new technologies follow a similar technology maturity lifecycle describing the technological maturity of a product. This is not similar to a product life cycle, but applies to an entire technology, or a generation of a technology. Technology adoption is the most common phenomenon driving the evolution of industries along the industry lifecycle. After expanding new uses of resources they end with exhausting the efficiency of those processes, producing gains that are first easier and larger over time then exhaustingly more difficult, as the technology matures. In fact, many authors sustain that actual economical trends presents clear symptoms of technological maturity, with particular attention to many traditional industrial sectors including automotive and aeronautical ones. Those consderations allows a clear verification of the state of technological maturity of the largest part of today transport vehicles industrial sector and that sustainability action are necessary for both reducing environmental impact and levels of technological maturity.

See the full course: https://systemsacademy.io/courses/complex-systems-design/ Twitter: http://bit.ly/2HobMld In this section we discuss the process of evolution as a key dynamic within complex engineered systems and central to the design of sustainable technologies as they manage to internalise change and stay evolving over time. Complex systems are inherently dynamic systems meaning they are continuously changing over time, biological systems are a good example of this, the only time they are not engaged in some process of development is when they cease to exist. This is in strong contrast to linear systems that inherently gravitate towards some equilibrium state where they will remain static unless perturbed by some external force. Linear systems theory is the back bone to modern science and engineering that has created our industrial economies, within this paradigm technologies are designed to operate at some kind of normal static equilibrium, within a well known and predefined environment. Their life cycle is a linear one where the system is created, put into its operating environment where it is designed to function within some normal set of parameters, at a stable and static equilibrium. It is, importantly, designed to resist change and to maintain operations within these parameters for as long as possible, before being disposed of. This model works well for simple linear systems like bridges where when we clamp our girders together we want our bolts to stay there, we don’t want them to answer back, to change or grow in anyway. But in complex systems we are not dealing with bolts, we are dealing with components that have some degree of autonomy and capacity for adaptation, people, businesses, stock prices, web applications, smart phones, these thing have their own internal logic through which they adapt to changes within their local environment. Sometimes this logic is very simple, such as some financial algorithm that will automatically sell or buy a stock at a certain price, or sometime it is very complex such as why a person buys a particular item of fashion over another. The net result though is that the system can change and is not determined to follow a linear life cycle from cradle to grave, it can learn, grow and adapt in response to internal and external condition in order to renew itself, that is to become more or less sustainable and thus alter its life cycle. That is all quite abstract so lets take some examples. Most businesses don’t last very long, less than a few decades, there are many reasons why this might be, but one model to capture the underline dynamics of how a business evolves is call the explore and exploit algorithm. In it’s early years a business may explore many different product or services, being able to pivot, remain flexible and diversified, but as the business developed there will be a few product that prove most lucrative and the business may likely scale them up becoming centred around them and developing a more formal structured management system as they leverage economics of scale. The result of exploiting a few lucrative products will be that the company will become more profitable but it has also self organised into a more critical state, some small change in the market that moves against the business’s core product might destroy the enterprise. Now lets take an example of a business that has designed an alternative course of development for itself. Google has since inception generated over 90% of its revenue from its one core service of web search, so why then dose it develop and maintain a whole suit of product that generate relatively little revenue. One theory is that Google knows that in a rapidly evolving market it needs to be where the next great thing is going to happen, whether it is in social media or video sharing, by creating this diversity, by continuing to invest resources gained from exploiting its core service into exploring and generate variety it is able to better evolve and ensure its sustainability. Because markets change, because the climates changes because everything changes to design sustainable systems is to design systems that build change and evolution into their structure. To better understand this process of evolution lets break it down to see how it works. There are just a hand full of key components, we need be able creation of some variety, allow for adaptation and perform selection to see which of the elements are the most adapt to the particular environment. What is ENTERPRISE LIFE CYCLE? What does ENTERPRISE LIFE CYCLE mean? ENTERPRISE LIFE CYCLE meaning - ENTERPRISE LIFE CYCLE definition - ENTERPRISE LIFE CYCLE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Enterprise life cycle (ELC) in enterprise architecture is the dynamic, iterative process of changing the enterprise over time by incorporating new business processes, new technology, and new capabilities, as well as maintenance, disposition and disposal of existing elements of the enterprise. The enterprise life cycle is a key concept in enterprise architecture (EA), enterprise engineering and systems engineering. The Enterprise Architecture process is closely related to similar processes, as program management cycle or systems development life cycle, and has similar properties to those found in the product life cycle. The concept of enterprise life cycle aids in the implementation of an enterprise architecture, and the capital planning and investment control (CPIC) process that selects, controls, and evaluates investments. Overlying these processes are human capital management and information security management. When these processes work together effectively, the enterprise can effectively manage information technology as a strategic resource and business process enabler. When these processes are properly synchronized, systems migrate efficiently from legacy technology environments through evolutionary and incremental developments, and the Agency is able to demonstrate its return on investment (ROI). The figure on top illustrates the interaction of the dynamic and interactive cycles as they would occur over time. As a prerequisite to the development of every enterprise architecture, each Agency should establish the need to develop an EA and formulate a strategy that includes the definition of a vision, objectives, and principles. The figure shows a representation of the EA process. Executive buy-in and support should be established and an architectural team created within the organization. The team defines an approach and process tailored to Agency needs. The architecture team implements the process to build both the baseline and target EAs. The architecture team also generates a sequencing plan for the transition of systems, applications, and associated business practices predicated upon a detailed gap analysis. The architecture is employed in the CPIC and the enterprise engineering and program management processes via prioritized, incremental projects and the insertion of emerging new technologies. Lastly, the architectures are maintained through a continuous modification to reflect the Agency's current baseline and target business practices, organizational goals, visions, technology, and infrastructure. The figure depicts the life of the architecture as it evolves and shows the process that the architecture description supports in the development, analysis, and evolution of the implemented architecture. In this illustration, the Operational View is used to drive the requirements that are evaluated against the Systems View. Operational deficiencies are derived from the analysis, and viable candidates are identified. These candidates can take the form of either materiel or non- materiel solutions and are modeled back into the Operational and Systems Views of the architecture. The architecture is re-analyzed, and the process continues until the operational deficiencies are minimized. The final sets of viable candidates are assessed for operational viability. Based on the results of the assessments, design changes are made and submitted for inclusion into the budgeting process. This process of developing, analyzing, and modifying continues throughout the architecture’s life cycle.

What is LIFE-CYCLE ASSESSMENT? What does LIFE-CYCLE ASSESSMENT mean? LIFE-CYCLE ASSESSMENT meaning - LIFE-CYCLE ASSESSMENT definition - LIFE-CYCLE ASSESSMENT explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Life-cycle assessment (LCA, also known as life-cycle analysis, ecobalance, and cradle-to-grave analysis) is a technique to assess environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life from cradle to grave (i.e., from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance, and disposal or recycling). Designers use this process to help critique their products. LCAs can help avoid a narrow outlook on environmental concerns by: - Compiling an inventory of relevant energy and material inputs and environmental releases; - Evaluating the potential impacts associated with identified inputs and releases; - Interpreting the results to help make a more informed decision. The goal of LCA is to compare the full range of environmental effects assignable to products and services by quantifying all inputs and outputs of material flows and assessing how these material flows affect the environment. This information is used to improve processes, support policy and provide a sound basis for informed decisions. Life Cycle Assessment A systematic set of procedures for compiling and examining the inputs and outputs of materials, energy and the associated environmental impacts directly attributable to the functioning of a product or service system throughout its life cycle. The term life cycle refers to the notion that a fair, holistic assessment requires the assessment of raw-material production, manufacture, distribution, use and disposal including all intervening transportation steps necessary or caused by the product's existence. There are two main types of LCA. Attributional LCAs seek to establish (or attribute) the burdens associated with the production and use of a product, or with a specific service or process, at a point in time (typically the recent past). Consequential LCAs seek to identify the environmental consequences of a decision or a proposed change in a system under study (oriented to the future), which means that market and economic implications of a decision may have to be taken into account. Social LCA is under development as a different approach to life cycle thinking intended to assess social implications or potential impacts. Social LCA should be considered as an approach that is complementary to environmental LCA. The procedures of life cycle assessment (LCA) are part of the ISO 14000 environmental management standards: in ISO 14040:2006 and 14044:2006. (ISO 14044 replaced earlier versions of ISO 14041 to ISO 14043.) GHG product life cycle assessments can also comply with specifications such as PAS 2050 and the GHG Protocol Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard. According to the ISO 14040 and 14044 standards, a Life Cycle Assessment is carried out in four distinct phases as illustrated in the figure shown to the right. The phases are often interdependent in that the results of one phase will inform how other phases are completed.

Welcome to the Investors Trading Academy talking glossary of financial terms and events. Our word of the day is “Life-cycle hypothesis” An attempt to explain the way that people split their income between spending and saving, and the way that they borrow. Over their lifetime, a typical person's income varies by far more than how much they spend. On average, young people have low incomes but big spending commitments: on investing in their human capital through education and training, building a family, buying a home, and so on. So they do not save much and often borrow heavily. As they get older their income generally rises, they pay off their mortgage, the children leave home and they prepare for retirement, so they sharply increase their saving and investment. In retirement, their income is largely or entirely from state benefits and the saving and investment they did when working; they spend most or all of their income, and, by selling off assets, often spend more than their income. Broadly speaking, this theory is supported by the data, though some economists argue that young people do not spend as much as they should on, say, being educated, because lenders are reluctant to extend credit to them. One puzzle is that people often have substantial assets left when they die. Some economists say this is because they want to leave a generous inheritance for their relatives; others say that people are simply far too optimistic about how long they will live. http://www.ted.com Simon Sinek presents a simple but powerful model for how leaders inspire action, starting with a golden circle and the question "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers -- and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling. The full lecture is a new addition to the Sociocyberneering Audio Collection, a collection of lectures by Jacque Fresco offered by The Venus Project. The Venus Project provides this audio lecture in three formats: Audio with scrolling text: https://www.thevenusproject.com/product/life-philosophy-pros-cons-conformity-scrolling-transcript/ Audio only: https://www.thevenusproject.com/product/life-philosophy-pros-cons-conformity-audio/ Text only: https://www.thevenusproject.com/product/life-philosophy-pros-cons-conformity-transcript/ This lecture is primarily concerned with the leaders and followers of a variety of philosophies (religious, spiritual, ethical) used for guiding one’s life while neglecting a social philosophy and direction for society. It discusses the problems and benefits of conforming to such philosophies and comments upon the ideas of Buckminster Fuller, Norbert Wiener, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Helena Blavatsky, Kenneth Keyes Jr., and Mark Twain. This lecture analyzes notions of introspection, satisfaction, peace of mind, nature lovers, higher consciousness, approval, sharing, good behavior, insecurity, personal judgement, and more. Record date: circa 1976 Full lecture runtime: 49 minutes The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in today's world. Yeah. So, I wanted to share this and decided to give no context what so ever. Just to see what happens, I will likely add a few more as they are part of my Short series, with more context, likely a preamble, I will call them films but its me practicing capturing the beauty and magick that already exists while further empowering our subjects in the lens to create a short but brief inspirational piece. Perhaps the future ones will have a little more contrast, but today I decided this would be enough.
