If you're interested on B2B Marketing and Sales topics, please subscribe to our new channel: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRGyofKJ7sXkx5vHGNVVASg What skills does a marketing manager need? Not the skills of a solo marketer, or an individual contributor, but the skills your marketing manager needs. Build a plan to recruit, skill and measure your marketing team - http://register.funnelplan.com/ ------------------ So here's the problem: we use the term 'Marketing Manager' really loosely. Often we mean "marketer," individual, single marketer, working on their own with a bunch of salespeople or a bunch of engineers, sort of doesn't matter, and we call them "Marketing Manager," because it makes them feel good about their job. But for this blog, I wanted to give you what the skills of a Marketing Manager are, that is, a person who manages a team of marketers. All of those skills are great for the individual contributor. Let me show you the skills that I think a Marketing Manager needs. You can read the full version of the blog here: https://align.me/b2b-marketing-blog/5-key-skills-marketing-manager/ We're super passionate about B2B marketing. align.me, wants to see B2B marketing become a respected management science globally. And this blog is a part of what we do to. It's a little more about how to think about things, and a little less about didactic how to do things. We'll table some researched opinions about marketing skills, and argue why those are NOT the key skills of a marketing manager. Then we'll give our take on the five key skills of a marketing manager actually are. If you would like to learn more about what align.me does, you can visit our website here: https://align.me/

Who is a Product Manager and What do they do? [Career Insights]

07:54
The role of a product manager is crucial but also one of the least understood ones. What does a product manager really do? Is he more of a data analyst? Or someone who deals with the tech aspects of product, leading the team of engineers? Or does the product manager largely concern himself/herself with user experience, design or the overall business strategy? Mind-boggling isn't it? No wonder the role is difficult to understand for most. In this video, Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in detail the various responsibilities a Product Manager has, and that you need to execute to the best of your ability to be a good PM. If you want to bag one among the thousands of highly coveted openings for Product Managers between now and 2020 (only to grow exponentially even after), you need to start upgrading your existing skills and mastering these key skills. Product Managers are often referred to as mini-CEOs of the product. This is why, at tech companies, startups and large MNCs that are now diversifying, alike, the role of Product Managers is lucrative and one of the most important in the organization. Product Marketing by Numbers - Objectives, Goals and KPI frameworks

19:47
Product management should be data driven, consumer-centric, and informed by deep insights derived from tracking and analysing user behaviour at scale. But this can only happen if you use a framework; if you've defined what 'good' looks like before you start implementing tracking and collecting data points. I explore a couple of frameworks - including my own hybrid model - and share processes which overcome analysis paralysis and enable truly data-driven product development.

The Art of Product Management with Sachin Rekhi (ENG’05 W’05)

01:07:06
Product managers drive the vision, strategy, design, and execution of their product. While one can often quickly comprehend the basic responsibilities of the role, mastering each of these dimensions is truly an art form that one is constantly honing. In this presentation I'll share my lessons learned over the last decade as a product manager in Silicon Valley on the art behind each of these dimensions of product management. Sachin Rekhi is a serial entrepreneur and product leader who has spent the last decade developing innovative products in Silicon Valley. Sachin most recently founded Connected, a professional contact manager that was acquired by LinkedIn in 2011 and re-launched as LinkedIn Contacts. He went on become head of product for LinkedIn Sales Navigator, LinkedIn's flagship offering for sales professionals. Prior to Connected, Sachin founded Anywhere.FM, a web music player that allowed users to upload, play, and discover music online, which was acquired by imeem in 2008. Sachin started his career at Microsoft as a product lead on Visual Studio, Microsoft's developer tools platform. Product Manager - 10 Essential Skills to Master (In 2019)

06:51
Product Management is a fast-growing and niche area to develop a career in. Naturally, there are some essential skills that can get you to be the very best of the lot. While the need for Product Managers is increasing by the day - in startups, tech companies and other large companies alike - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousands and compares poorly to countries such as the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. So, the need is apparent. But what does one have to do to get there? How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this would only mean the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management. Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager. Product Marketing for New Products

27:12
You might have the greatest product on earth, but if your potential customers don’t know they need it, they won’t know they have to buy it — let alone buy it from you. This may seem obvious, but it’s actually an important concept to pause and focus on, because it affects everything from understanding who your buyer really is and who the competition are to how you set the buying criteria and frame the problem your product solves for customers. In this deck, first presented at one of our company building events in early 2017, a16z partner Sharon Chang -- who managed product marketing at Opsware; directed product marketing at HP Software as well as other companies; and headed marketing at Rockmelt -- covers the fundamentals of product marketing for new products. And the fundamentals behind the fundamentals are all about your story, capturing it and scaling it so it’s just as compelling when your first sales rep conveys it as when you first heard it from the founder.

Writing Market and Product Requirements

Master Core Product Management Skills, the Full Product Lifecycle and Become a Certified Product Manager! Learn More About the Online Course: http://280.gr/2kHvqvr This is a snippet from 280 Group's Certified Product Manager – Online Course and Exam. Let’s start by looking at the difference between “market” requirements and “product” requirements. Then, we’ll see why writing QUALITY requirements with the CUSTOMER IN MIND is critical to the success of our products. In the first phase of the Optimal Product Process, which is the Conceive phase, we come up with ideas for new products We refer to this as starting in the “problem space” and moving to the “solution space.” Developing requirements is a similar proposition. We start by understanding the market need. This often takes the form of a Market Requirements Document or MRD. From there we can define a solution or product, which includes product features that solve the need. This is traditionally in the form of a Product Requirements document or PRD. For Agile development teams, these requirements may appear as features in the product backlog used by developers describing what they need to build. So if we’re talking about a MARKET requirement, we’re in the “problem space.” And if we are talking about product FEATURES, then we’re in the “solution space.” Now, this doesn’t mean we need to get bogged down in documentation for documentation’s sake. But there IS a lot of evidence that poorly defined requirements propagate more errors in the final product. If you expect the final solution to actually address the problem you’ve identified, then you MUST invest in creating clear and quality market requirements. You then work with engineering to translate this into an agreed upon set of product requirements. The most fundamental ingredient in a good requirement is the customer. Who are they? What’s their story? What problems are they facing? What outcome are they hoping to achieve? When it comes to defining products, Product Managers often skip right over the back story and true needs and start talking about features. Before writing a requirement it is more effective to give engineers the full customer context – the back story helping to frame the problem. When engineers have a deep understanding of the customer need and the problem they are solving they will often come up with a solution that is much better than if a Product Manager hands them a feature list.
