Standards vary worldwide, but organic farming in general features practices that strive to cycle resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Organizations regulating organic products may restrict the use of certain pesticides and fertilizers in farming. In general, organic foods are also usually not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents or synthetic food additives Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their borders. In the context of these regulations, organic food is produced in a way that complies with organic standards set by regional organizations, national governments and international organizations. Although the produce of kitchen gardens may be organic, selling food with an organic label is regulated by governmental food safety authorities, such as the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) or European Commission (EC) There is not sufficient evidence in medical literature to support claims that organic food is safer or healthier than conventionally grown food. While there may be some differences in the nutrient and antinutrient contents of organically- and conventionally-produced food, the variable nature of food production and handling makes it difficult to generalize results.claims that organic food tastes better are generally not supported by evidence. Organic Food Science: What Does Organic Mean and is Organic Food Healthier?

And at the end we’re going to discuss what foods are the most important to eat organic. Let’s get started by answering the question of what does organic mean? Organic food is food produced with the standards of organic farming. Standards vary worldwide, but they general mean food produced without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. http://www.organic.org/home/faq Animals products only qualify as organic if they do not take antibiotics or hormones during their development. Now I should clarify, pesticides can be used by organic farmers on crops, just as long as they are derived from natural sources and are not synthetically created. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/organic Because mass producing crops without ANY pesticides would be a nightmare with wasted food in epic proportions. As my home boys over at ASAP Science so aptly put, just because a bag of chips has the “organic” label on them, does not make them healthy. Cookies, chips, and ice cream are not suddenly good for you because they are organic. But when people ask is organic food healthier, they are usually asking for a comparison of foods like veggies, fruits, and certain animal products. The scientific data we have is actually VERY so split on this issue: The reason: Money money money. MONEY. Monsanto, the famous poster child for evil pesticide producers, makes over 4.5 BILLION dollars in sales yearly and spends an average of 5 million dollars a year in public lobbying. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto When most people say that organic is not healthier for you, they usually cite a Stanford Review done in 2012 that came to conclusion that organic foods are not more nutritious than conventional foods. http://annals.org/aim/article/1355685/organic-foods-safer-healthier-than-conventional-alternatives-systematic-review Although, the study did concede that organic does limit the exposure or pesticides and antibiotic resistant bacteria. A new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition is the latest addition to the debate. It’s the largest meta-analysis that has been published on this topic, covering 343 individual studies looking into organic food. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26878105 One of the major conclusions found organic foods could boost a person’s antioxidant intake by up to 40%. One thing in favor of eating organic that these studies can not refute is reducing the amount of pesticides being ingested… On average, pesticides like cadmium had levels 400% lower, respectively, in organic produce than in conventional varieties. Since cadmium is a highly toxic metal that has been linked to an increased risk of everything from Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and hormone disruption, it’s probably a good idea to minimize cadmium in your diet. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24557150 Other study’s have also linked pesticide exposure in children to ADHD and other development problems like low IQ. http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1989564,00.html https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/21/pesticide-exposure-in-womb-affects-i-q/?_r=0 So, are organic foods healthier for you? Yes! In some studies, they have slightly more nutrients and do minimize our exposure to synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones added to what we eat. So should everyone eat organic? Not really. Cost is an issue for many people. #1. It seems animal products are more important to be organic than veggies. #2. Frozen organic foods are always a little cheaper #3. Use the clean 15 and dirty dozen list for fruits and veggies The Clean 15 are non-organic foods that have minimal pesticide exposure • Avocados • Sweet Corn • Pineapples • Cabbage • Frozen Sweet Peas • Onions • Asparagus • Mangos • Papayas • Kiwi • Eggplant • Honey Dew • Grapefruit • Cantelope • Cauliflower The dirty dozen on the other hand are the foods that have a lot of pesticide load if consumed non-organic. These foods are: • Strawberries • Apples • Nectarines • Peaches • Celery • Grapes • Cherries • Spinach • Tomatoes • Sweet bell peppers • Cherry tomatoes • Cucumbers Cheers!

Organic Food: Healthy Or Great Myth?

09:12
Is organic food actually better? We all automatically assume that organic food equals healthy, eco-friendly, and nutritious. Yet several studies claim that "organic" doesn't necessarily stand for "the best." According to a 2015 Consumer Reports study, organic products are on average 47% more costly than their non-organic alternatives. But manufacturing organic products is only 5 to 7% more expensive than producing conventional foods. In addition, the meaning of the term "organic" differs from country to country due to varying standards. In some places, product quality monitoring can be so poor that organic food won't be any different from the other kind. So let's take a look at whether or not organic really is better for you or if it’s just one big trendy scam! Since then, this number has been growing steadily by about 10% each year. - The most obvious difference between these two types of products is in the way they’re made. When they produce organic food, farmers don't use any hormones, genetic modification, antibiotics, or artificial chemicals like synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. - A 2010 study conducted by the University of Guelph discovered that some organic pesticides could have a much worse influence on the environment than regular ones. - 95% of people who go organic do this to protect themselves from pesticides. But they don't realize that since organic fruits and veggies are entirely GMO-free, they’re less resistant than their modified counterparts. - The biggest problem in all of this is that nowadays, organic farming has become a profitable business for big corporations and not local farmers. As a result, companies use machinery that emits greenhouse gases and, thus, contributes to the pollution of the planet. - In 2009, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition also compared a bunch of different studies and came to the conclusion that organic products don't have any extra nutritional value in comparison with conventional ones. - the content and nutritional value of different fruits and vegetables depend on all kinds of factors besides an “organic” label, such as weather and climate conditions or the quality of the soil. As for crops, their characteristics may change according to the period when they were harvested. - Buy products that have the USDA seal on them. Always try to avoid unlabeled foods. - Some of the best organic products you can find are locally grown ones. First of all, in most cases, they have more flavor to them because farmers pick these products as soon as they're ready to eat. - Do NOT buy organic seafood. Nowadays, the USDA doesn't have any particular regulations or labeling standards for shellfish and fish. - When choosing fish and other seafood, opt not for organic but for ones that don’t contain large amounts of harmful substances. They include scallops, herring, shrimp, crayfish, crab, tilapia, oysters, catfish, and haddock. What is organic farming? | Biology for All | FuseSchool

03:51
As populations have grown, farming practices have become more intensified to maximise crop yields and ensure we can feed the ever growing population. Fertilisers and pesticides are used on crops, and animals may be kept inside in more densely packed sheds to maximise milk yields, or egg production, or speed up the time needed for the animal to be ready to be sent to market for meat. An alternative to conventional farming is organic farming. Organic farming currently accounts for about 1% of agricultural land worldwide. It focuses on sustainability and is thought to have less detrimental effects on the environment than conventional farming. This has led to it being proposed as an alternative to conventional agriculture for helping to overcome the climate change crisis we are currently experiencing. The debate continues, as it is not a perfect solution. In theory, organic farming should not use chemical fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides or feed additives for livestock. It requires the farmer to use more natural alternatives. This results in lower yields, but the farmer can sell their produce at a higher price because consumers believe the produce is of a higher quality. Instead of fertilisers, manure is used. This recycles waste and improves the soil structure. However, it is smelly and more difficult to apply than chemical fertilisers, and also means the farmer has less control over the mineral content they are putting into their soils. Crop rotation is used to reduce disease building up in the soils and to strengthen the soil composition. Certain crops, such as the legume family - so peas and beans, fix nitrogen from the air and increase the nitrates in the soil. This makes the soil much more fertile, and so farmers rotate legumes with their other crops. Growing multiple crops is however less efficient and produces lower yields than specialising in one or few crops however. Instead of using herbicides, weeding is the preferred organic farming technique. This is of course much more environmentally friendly because it is chemical free but it is very labour intensive. Although this does mean more jobs available, which is a great thing. Organic farming is thought to maintain the biodiversity better than conventional farming because fewer chemicals are used. There are more bumble bees and insects in an area because pesticides haven’t been used. Weeds and non-crop plants can grow as herbicides aren’t used. Biodiversity benefits the food chain across all levels, from the plants up to the foxes. These are the theories of organic farming, and is how we farmed for the one hundred thousand years before the industrial revolution. It is generally thought that organic farming is much better for biodiversity, and also produces a healthier product because less chemicals are used on it. In the second video on organic farming, we will look at some of the problems of organic farming, and the reality of what it means to be an organic farm. Is Organic Food Better for Your Health?

Many of my friends and family will only touch organic food. That's their right, and I don't try to fight with them. I sometimes get uncomfortable, though, when they make claims about organic food that just aren't supported by data and evidence. Moreover, I think arguing with anyone who is attempting to eat more fruits and vegetables that theirs are in some way "not good enough" is counter-productive. What is the difference between All Natural and Organic?

01:47
So is there a difference between "All Natural" and "Organic"? Watch and find out All Natural Defined: "Natural foods" and "all natural foods" are widely used terms in food labeling and marketing with a variety of definitions, most of which are vague. The term is assumed to imply foods that are minimally processed and do not contain manufactured ingredients, but the lack of standards in most jurisdictions means that the term assures nothing. The term "organic" has similar implications and has an established legal definition in many countries and an international standard. In some places, the term "natural" is defined and enforced. In others, such as the United States, it has no meaning. (Wikipedia) Organic Defined: Organic foods are foods that are produced using methods of organic farming -- that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Organic foods are also not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives.[1] The organic farming movement arose in the 1940s in response to the industrialization of agriculture known as the Green Revolution.[2] Organic food production is a heavily regulated industry, distinct from private gardening. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their borders. In the context of these regulations, organic food is food produced in a way that complies with organic standards set by national governments and international organizations. Evidence on substantial differences between organic food and conventional food is insufficient to make claims that organic food is safer or healthier than conventional food. With respect to taste, the evidence is also insufficient to make scientific claims that organic food tastes better (Wikipedia) Organic Standards: Organic crops. The USDA organic seal verifies that irradiation, sewage sludge, synthetic fertilizers, prohibited pesticides, and genetically modified organisms were not used. Organic livestock. The USDA organic seal verifies that producers met animal health and welfare standards, did not use antibiotics or growth hormones, used 100% organic feed, and provided animals with access to the outdoors. Organic multi-ingredient foods. The USDA organic seal verifies that the product has 95% or more certified organic content. If the label claims that it was made with specified organic ingredients, you can be sure that those specific ingredients are certified organic. Regulatory Process The NOP develops the laws that regulate the creation, production, handling, labeling, trade, and enforcement of all USDA organic products. This process, commonly referred to as rulemaking, involves input from the National Organic Standards Board (a Federal Advisory Committee made up of fifteen members of the public) and the public. Organic Food Is Expensive Is An Excuse

01:47
Organic Food Is Expensive Is An Excuse https://www.anoasisofhealing.com/juicing/ Organic food is expensive is just an excuse people use not to go this route. The same people who make this excuse have the latest version of the iPhone and Samsung. That’s just crazy, vanity over true health, that’s the choice they are making. Not a wise choice. The amount of money it costs to treat cancer today is mind-boggling. Some people believe that organic food costs too much and that it doesn’t fit in their budget. However, for a proper perspective, people should compare the costs versus being in intensive care for a few days. Think for a moment about being so sick, that you aren’t able to work. If you aren’t working, then you don’t have money to pay your bills. So, in terms of your health, using the excuse of organic food is expensive is in fact not a valid reason for people who aren’t buying it. What we do know is when people consume raw organic whole foods, they are loaded with nutrients. People are getting maximum nutrition. People are not getting true nutrition when they consume fast food! What ends up happening is people eat four or five servings of a specific fast food, consuming more junk loaded with calories. However, their appetite is not satisfied and they are lacking quality nutrition. The end result of this consumption pattern is people are uncomfortable with eating too much and they are deficient in the majority of key nutrients. It leaves us with a global phenomenon where we have the majority of the entire population being overfed and undernourished. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgEvpazxx5NOzIeaK9Hd6RSRI0-W7brkC https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR0Y7icMoXgQZaepRkJlHzg/videos
Food Labeling: How to Identify Conventional, Organic and GMO Produce

02:52
The price look-up (PLU) code system used by most produce distributors has the side benefit of allowing consumers to identify conventional and organic produce at the grocery store. Even though the defeat of Proposition 37 means that genetically engineered information will not be added to labels at this time, PLU codes do have the potential to identify genetically engineered produce. This video shows you how to read PLU codes to unlock the information that is already right at your fingertips. Written and Produced by Mike Kahn.

What is ORGANIC FARMING? What does ORGANIC FARMING mean? ORGANIC FARMING meaning & explanation

03:16
What is ORGANIC FARMING? What does ORGANIC FARMING mean? ORGANIC FARMING meaning - ORGANIC FARMING definition - ORGANIC FARMING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Organic farming is an alternative agricultural system which originated early in the 20th century in reaction to rapidly changing farming practices. Organic agriculture continues to be developed by various organic agriculture organizations today. It relies on fertilizers of organic origin such as compost, manure, green manure, and bone meal and places emphasis on techniques such as crop rotation and companion planting. Biological pest control, mixed cropping and the fostering of insect predators are encouraged. In general, organic standards are designed to allow the use of naturally occurring substances while prohibiting or strictly limiting synthetic substances. For instance, naturally occurring pesticides such as pyrethrin and rotenone are permitted, while synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are generally prohibited. Synthetic substances that are allowed include, for example, copper sulfate, elemental sulfur and Ivermectin. Genetically modified organisms, nanomaterials, human sewage sludge, plant growth regulators, hormones, and antibiotic use in livestock husbandry are prohibited. Reasons for advocation of organic farming include real or perceived advantages in sustainability, openness, self-sufficiency, autonomy/independence, health, food security, and food safety, although the match between perception and reality is continually challenged. Organic agricultural methods are internationally regulated and legally enforced by many nations, based in large part on the standards set by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), an international umbrella organization for organic farming organizations established in 1972. Organic agriculture can be defined as: an integrated farming system that strives for sustainability, the enhancement of soil fertility and biological diversity whilst, with rare exceptions, prohibiting synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, and growth hormones. Since 1990 the market for organic food and other products has grown rapidly, reaching $63 billion worldwide in 2012. This demand has driven a similar increase in organically managed farmland that grew from 2001 to 2011 at a compounding rate of 8.9% per annum. As of 2011, approximately 37,000,000 hectares (91,000,000 acres) worldwide were farmed organically, representing approximately 0.9 percent of total world farmland.:1

Organic Farming - Meaning

What Does Organic Farming Really Mean? - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. What does Organic Farming really mean? Hi, I'm Judy with Judy's Homegrown. Organic farming is the process of, first of all getting certified by the proper agencies and following certain practices so that you don't use pesticide or fungicide. And what organic means to me is there's a lot more to it. If the soil has been handled properly, then it's much more nutritious for the plants and then we get that nutrition. If the plants haven't been treated properly with fungicide and pesticide what that does is kills the microbes in the soil. And the microbes are actually the most important part of getting nutrients to the plant. And one thing that people need to know is that when you grow organically the fungus in the soil for example micorisa, can extend the root system of that plant by over a 100 times, and what that allows the plant to do is to capture more nutrients from the soil, but it also allows the plant to sequester carbon in the soil. Plants take in Carbon Dioxide and they breathe out oxygen, and one of the problems of global warming is that we have too much Carbon Dioxide in the environment. And with a healthy plant that is growing in organic soil, that plant can take up to 100 times more carbon out of the environment and put it into the soil whereas what we're doing with conventional or what I like to say non-regenerative farming is we're not allowing plants to grow those micorisa, symbiotic relationships, and so our crops don't breathe as much and consequently we're not sequestering as much carbon as we could if we were growing things organically. So, an answer to the problem of global warming, is let's grow things organically. So, every time you make a choice for an organic product, you're also trying to save the planet from global warming, which is way more than most people realize when they choose organic.

If You See THIS Label On the Fruit Do Not Buy It at Any Cost!! This Is Why:

03:14
Most of us don’t know that the stickers attached to the fruits and vegetables, are there for more than just scanning the price. The PLU code, or the Price Lookup Number on the sticker, can help you determine if the product is genetically modified, organic, or produced with chemical fertilizers, fungicides or herbicides. A four-digit code beginning with a 3, or a 4 means the produce is probably conventionally grown. The last digits of the code represent the kind of the fruit, or vegetable you are buying. For example, bananas are labeled with the code of 4-0-1-1. A five-digit code that starts with a "8", means the product is genetically modified. The label on genetically modified tomato would contain the number 8-4-8-0-5. A five-digit code that starts with a "9", means the product is organic. Organic bananas are labeled as 9-4-0-1-1. EWG, the Environmental Working Group, analyzed pesticide residue testing data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and FDA, to come up with rankings for these popular fresh produce items. The EWG notes that 99% of apples, 98% of peaches, and 97% of nectarines, all tested positive for at least one pesticide residue, while the average white potato had more pesticides by weight than any other produce! The following foods have very high pesticide loads, and should always be purchased organic, or grow yourself! Apples, Celery, Cherry Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Grapes, Hot Peppers, Nectarines, Peaches, Potatoes, Spinach, Strawberries, Sweet Bell Peppers, Kale or Collard Greens, and Summer Squash. The following foods were found by EWG to be relatively low in pesticide residue. They may be good conventional options for those on a budget. Asparagus, Avocados, Cabbage, Cantaloupe, Non-GMO Sweet Corn, Eggplant, Grapefruit, Kiwi, Mangoes, Mushrooms, Onions, Non-GMO Papayas, Pineapples, Sweet Peas and Sweet Potatoes. The Environmental Protection Agency warns that the consumption of pesticides can lead to health problems such as, birth defects, nerve damage, cancer, and other effects that might occur over a long period of time. Children are especially at risk of harm from pesticides. Therefore, please consume organic or conventional grown or self-grown fruits and vegetables. https://youtu.be/58Z-nOA1_Iw

Why You Don't Need to Buy Organic Food All The Time - Foods That Have Almost No Pesticides

03:26
While many health-conscious shoppers choose to buy organic produce, the reality is that this option isn’t always accessible to everyone. With organic food often costing significantly more than non-organic food due to production, marketing and distribution costs as well as the limits of supply and demand, many people struggle to buy organic, even if they want to make healthier, ethically sourced food a part of their daily diet. The Environmental Working Group, an organization which produces lists of foods that are affected most and least by pesticides called the “dirty dozen” and “clean fifteen”. This Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce has become a valuable source for consumers trying to make the healthiest, most sustainable choices when it comes to produce, without breaking the bank. This year, as in previous years, spinach, kale and collard greens made the Dirty Dozen list, meaning that if you’re going to splurge on organic produce, you should probably focus on organic versions of these popular veggies. Other foods featured on the Dirty Dozen list were apples, cucumbers, bell peppers, and grapes – all foods with relatively thin skins that don’t provide much protection from the harmful effects of pesticides. By contrast, foods on the “Clean Fifteen” list such as avocados, cantaloupe, eggplant, and grapefruit had relatively low rates of pesticide contamination – so even if you can’t afford to buy organic all the time, you can rest assured knowing that even non-organic versions of these foods are relatively safe to consume. Though they are not completely foods that are pesticides free. According to the EWG of all the avocados tested, only 1 percent showed any detectable pesticides at all, while a grand total of 89 percent of all pineapples tested had zero residues according to the study. While non-organic sweet corn and papaya have very low amounts of pesticides 95% of these being sold on the market today are GMOs. Whether you buy local, organic produce or opt to mix conventional and organic foods, the following tips are recommended for making sure your food is both as health and sustainable as possible: Don’t buy all your produce from a single source buying a wider variety of foods from multiple sources will limit your exposure to any single pesticide. Try to buy seasonal food. Locate a local farmer’s market and buy produce there to support local agriculture and make sure that you’re getting the freshest food possible. Wash all your produce thoroughly before eating it. This helps remove not only pesticide residue, but also dirt and bacteria that even organic produce can have. What is Organic Food and What Does Organic Mean

01:23
What is Organic Food and What Does Organic Mean. Organic foods are grown and processed differently than regular foods. The USDA definition of organic food states that: Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge bioengineering or ionizing radiation. Before a product can be labeled "organic," a Government-approved certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic food before it gets to your local supermarket or restaurant must be certified, too. So that is all about organic food. The Pros and Cons of Organic Farming | Biology for All | FuseSchool

03:59
In this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhOrIUlrnPo) we looked at the key principles of organic farming - the use of more natural alternatives instead of chemical fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides or feed additives for livestock. This all sounds great, but there is more to the story. Organic farming isn’t all good. The yields are lower because more produce is damaged by pests, and carefully selected chemical pesticides cannot be used. With an ever-growing world population, we have limited land to feed everyone from. So should we therefore just focus on maximising yields? Or to get the same yields, more land would need to be farmed. Where would this surplus land come from - cutting down our remaining forests and rainforests? This would be far worse for the environment both in terms of climate change and biodiversity. A study in the UK found that a litre of organic milk requires 80% more land than conventional milk to produce. That’s a lot more land, and makes you wonder whether organic foods are a luxury the world just cannot afford to provide. Interestingly, it has been found that some organic farming methods require more water than non-organic alternatives; a huge problem as droughts become more regular and water more scarce. Organic is not necessarily better for the environment either. Organic dairy farms do actually produce more methane per cow than conventional farms because of the diet of the cattle: organic cows apparently burp twice as much as conventional cows!! As methane is a greenhouse gas, this does not bode well for global warming. You also need to consider the airmiles of your produce… in the UK most of the organic food is imported, so if there is a conventionally farmed alternative from a local source then it may be better for the environment to opt for that product. Scientists are still fiercely debating whether conventional or organic farming has a larger environmental footprint; so I am not expecting you to have a clear opinion either! It is actually a big misconception that organic farms cannot use any pesticides; they can because without them, the crop yields would be much too low for the farm to be sustained. Organic farmers can use both synthetic and natural kinds of pesticides, but some of the regular pesticide chemicals are banned on organic farms. As fewer chemicals are used, there is less risk of chemicals remaining on the food, which can only be a good thing for consumers. Scientists are still debating the pros and cons of organic farming in comparison to conventional farming, and there is plenty of information you can read online. The tricky part is that most articles are very biased so don’t be swayed by the first article you read. The principles of organic farming are obviously very good for the environment, but in reality yields matter. There is a balance to be found between looking after our soils and environment, and so employing organic strategies such as crop rotations, but having a limited amount of agricultural land and an ever-growing population. Many conventional farmers employ organic strategies to do their best for the soil structure and local biodiversity, but make use of chemicals in the lowest levels possible whilst still maintaining yields. Organic agriculture with marigold fungicide in India

01:10
Marigold petals being used in organic agriculture, as a local fungicide in India's Karnataka state. Karnataka is a state in South West India. It was created on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act, which is celebrated annually as Karnataka Rajyotsava (English: Formation Day). Originally known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. It is the land of the Kannadigas, Tuluvas, Konkanis and Kodavas. The capital and largest city is Bangalore, also known as Bengaluru, which is at the forefront of the rapid economic and technological development that India is experiencing. Karnataka is bordered by the Arabian Sea and the Laccadive Sea to the west, Goa to the north west, Maharashtra to the north, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to the south east, and Kerala to the south west. The state covers an area of 191,976 square kilometres (74,122 sq mi), or 5.83 per cent of the total geographical area of India. It is the eighth largest Indian state by area. With 61,130,704 inhabitants at the 2011 census, Karnataka is the ninth largest state by population, comprising 30 districts. Kannada is the most widely spoken and official language of the state. The two main river systems of the state are the Krishna and its tributaries, the Bhima, Ghataprabha, Vedavathi, Malaprabha, and Tungabhadra, in the north, and the Kaveri and its tributaries, the Hemavati, Shimsha, Arkavati, Lakshmana Thirtha and Kabini, in the south. Both these rivers flow eastward into the Bay of Bengal. Though several etymologies have been suggested for the name Karnataka, the generally accepted one is that Karnataka is derived from the Kannada words karu and nādu, meaning "elevated land". Karu nadu may also be read as karu, meaning "black", and nadu, meaning "region", as a reference to the black cotton soil found in the Bayalu Seeme region of the state. The British used the word Carnatic, sometimes Karnatak, to describe both sides of peninsular India, south of the Krishna. With an antiquity that dates to the paleolithic, Karnataka has also been home to some of the most powerful empires of ancient and medieval India. The philosophers and musical bards patronised by these empires launched socio-religious and literary movements which have endured to the present day. Karnataka has contributed significantly to both forms of Indian classical music, the Carnatic and Hindustani traditions. Writers in the Kannada language have received the most number of Jnanpith awards in India. Organics: What does "certified organic" mean?

01:58
http://www.mda.state.mn.us What is organic? What's the difference between "organic" and "natural"? If you are confused, you're not alone. This series of six short videos will answer the most common questions American consumers ask about organic products. In this video, learn what the term "certified organic" means. Be sure to watch 'em all! Send to friends! In the U.S., organic agriculture is governed by a comprehensive set of federal regulations that prohibit the use of genetically modified seeds, antibiotics and hormones. The rules also prohibit the use of most synthetic pesticides and herbicides, and require practices that conserve soil and water and promote animal welfare. According to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Minnesota has about 650 organic farms, and that number is on the rise.

Health benefits of organic food

03:37
When you go to a grocery store, shopping for products such as eggs, meat, fish, milk, and products can be very complicated. Signs posted everywhere that label food as natural, organic, and a number of other things - but what's the difference, actually? Learning the meaning of special names can help you decide whether you have to spend extra money on that product is just a marketing tactic. Natural is a transition that is associated with a number of fruit and vegetable products. Usually, this is a simple marketing method to convince you to buy a product. After all, all fruits and vegetables are natural, right? Except for those new types of food that have been developed and processed, the product is natural. What you might want is organic. Organic food grows without chemical pesticides and fertilizers. There are two main benefits for organic food. First, you help the environment because these chemicals are not introduced into nature. Second, you avoid consuming chemicals and therefore healthier foods are healthier. However, organic products are usually more expensive. If you have a budget, skip organic fruits and vegetables that you can peel, like oranges and bananas. After all, after removing the skin, you also dispose of chemicals. Instead, choose organic items such as apples, where you eat the skin. No matter what you buy, make sure you rinse the food when you go home.

Poison on our Plate | Ramanjaneyulu GV | TEDxHyderabad

17:19
Is our food safe? A red alert question that Ramanjaneyulu, puts out to all of us. Hear him talk about the quality of food we are eating. Listen to the reasons we need to adapt to organic farming as a results of excessive use of chemical pesticides and horrifying facts and statistics, surrounding them. He alerts us to the damage we are doing to our ecological footprints. In his heart wrenching talk, Ramanjaneyulu, highlights the plight of farmers and the reasons they commit suicide and the many reasons that farmers and farming should not die. “We are what we eat and plants give us what we feed.” He is waging a war against the use of pesticides in agricultural activities and has challenged the traditional methods of farming. Apart from running the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture as the Executive Director, he also runs a small outlet, Sahaja Ahaaram, which stocks pest-free products from farmers. After leaving his full-time government job, Ramanjaneyulu dedicated himself to the benefit of farmers and his campaign, ‘India for Safe Food’. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions - SN1 and SN2 Mechanism, Organic Chemistry

17:54
This organic chemistry video tutorial explains how nucleophilic substitution reactions work. It focuses on the SN1 and Sn2 reaction mechanism and it provides plenty of examples and practice problems. The Sn2 reaction is a second order nucleophilic substitution reaction where the rate is dependent on the concentration of the substrate / alkyl halide and the nucleophile. SN2 reactions occur with inversion of configuration and work well with methyl and primary substrates. It's a concerted reaction mechanism that occurs in a single step. The rate law for the SN1 reaction is given as well. SN1 reactions proceed via a carbocation intermediate and carbocation rearrangements such as the hydride shift and the methyl shift are possible. SN1 reactions work well with tertiary alkyl halide substrates due to carbocation stability. Carbocations are stabilized by means of hyperconjugation and the inductive effect. SN1 reactions will produce an unequal racemic mixture. The stereochemistry of both reaction mechanisms are discussed in detail. SN1 reactions work well with polar protic solvents but SN2 reactions work better in polar aprotic solvents. Solvolysis reactions are sn1 reactions where the nucleophile is the same as the solvent.
Is this the future of Amazon Search? 50% non-organic product listings?

01:39
CHECK THIS - 50% of the product listings in a recent Amazon search were not organic...meaning they were either part of an Amazon special program, or paid for it. The future of ranking products on Amazon is seemingly getting harder and harder. Beyond the influx of competition over the past few years, Amazon is now providing preferential treatment for non-ogranic listings at the top of the page, in the middle, and all the way down to the bottom. It's becoming increasingly evident this platform is evolving much of the way of Google rankings (ie pay to play)...and with bigger brands investing bigger budgets into the ads platform, it's only going to become more expensive in my opinion. So what do you do? 1) Create good products...that review well. 2) Learn Amazon Advertising...or hire someone who knows it inside and out. 3) Pull levers which other product listings/sellers may not have (ie send traffic from social direct to Amazon.) There's never been more opportunity in terms of sales and traffic on Amazon. The customers are there. Learn all you can on how to find them! Shaka, Ryan
