Running Oracle Forms 11g Applications Using Java Web Start Launcher, No Any Web Browser Required

17:31
How to run oracle form in any browser? How to run Oracle Forms Applications without Web Browser? The Java Plugin has been used by Oracle Forms for many years. Browser technology has since evolved beyond the need or desire to continue supporting plugins of any kind. With modern browser vendors working to restrict and reduce plugin support in their products so it's getting increasingly difficult to run Java applets through browsers, which is a problem for Oracle Forms applications. Developers of applications that rely on the Java browser plugin need to consider alternative options such as migrating from Java Applets (which rely on a browser plugin) to the plugin-free Java Web Start technology. This video tutorial describes the steps to deploy Forms applications using Java(TM) Web Start Launcher. You'll learn how to run Oracle Forms Applications with Java Web Start Launcher from the Desktop or the Java Cache Viewer by creating JNLP File. Even though Java plug-in does not work in web browsers after installing Java, Firefox 52 ESR 32-bit release still supports NAPAPI plug-ins. Alternatively we shall download and install Firefox 52 ESR 32-bit release to run Oracle Forms Applications. You'll also learn how to manage and configure Java Security Exception Site List and set the security level within the Java Control Panel to get rid of the following errors or Java exceptions. (You can add the URL of the application to Exception Site List) oracle.forms.engine.Main ExitException: Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system. The following resource is signed with a weak signature algorithm MD5withRSA and is treated as unsigned: http:XXXX:7001/forms/java/frmall.jar This application will run with unrestricted access which may put your computer and personal information at risk. Run this application only if you trust the location and publisher above. Applications Blocked by Java Security. Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running. Warning: an unsigned application from the location below is requesting permission to run Downloading Patches 19933795 from My Oracle Support can also solve many problem. Part 1 How to find nth highest salary in sql

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-1-how-to-find-nth-highest-salary_17.html This is a very common SQL Server Interview Question. There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary. By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well. How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary Let's use the following Employees table for this demo Use the following script to create Employees table Create table Employees ( ID int primary key identity, FirstName nvarchar(50), LastName nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(50), Salary int ) GO Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', 'Hastings', 'Male', 60000) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', 'Pound', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Philip', 'Hastings', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Mary', 'Lambeth', 'Female', 30000) Insert into Employees values ('Valarie', 'Vikings', 'Female', 35000) Insert into Employees values ('John', 'Stanmore', 'Male', 80000) GO To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees) To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY FROM EMPLOYEES ORDER BY SALARY DESC ) RESULT ORDER BY SALARY To find nth highest salary using CTE WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE DENSERANK = N To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2. Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3. Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates. WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

Making RESTful Web Services the Easy Way with Node.js

59:01
Dan McGhan, Developer Advocate, Oracle. Drivers make it easy to connect to and run statements against a database. That means they're perfect for creating RESTful APIs, right? Well, you'll want to add some pagination capabilities, maybe sorting controls, and some generic filtering options too. You could do all that with the driver and some smart code, but there must be an easier way, right? Of course there is! In this session you'll learn about some of the challenges associated with manual API creation using drivers. The discussion then turns to several tools that offer similar functionality out of the box, including Loopback, Sails, and Oracle REST Data Services. ================================= To improve the video quality, click the gear icon and set the Quality to 1080p/720p HD. Rank and Dense Rank in SQL Server

10:08
rank and dense_rank example difference between rank and dense_rank with example rank vs dense_rank in sql server 2008 sql server difference between rank and dense_rank In this video we will discuss Rank and Dense_Rank functions in SQL Server Rank and Dense_Rank functions Introduced in SQL Server 2005 Returns a rank starting at 1 based on the ordering of rows imposed by the ORDER BY clause ORDER BY clause is required PARTITION BY clause is optional When the data is partitioned, rank is reset to 1 when the partition changes Difference between Rank and Dense_Rank functions Rank function skips ranking(s) if there is a tie where as Dense_Rank will not. For example : If you have 2 rows at rank 1 and you have 5 rows in total. RANK() returns - 1, 1, 3, 4, 5 DENSE_RANK returns - 1, 1, 2, 3, 4 Syntax : RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Col1, Col2, ...) DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Col1, Col2, ...) RANK() and DENSE_RANK() functions without PARTITION BY clause : In this example, data is not partitioned, so RANK() function provides a consecutive numbering except when there is a tie. Rank 2 is skipped as there are 2 rows at rank 1. The third row gets rank 3. DENSE_RANK() on the other hand will not skip ranks if there is a tie. The first 2 rows get rank 1. Third row gets rank 2. SELECT Name, Salary, Gender, RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS [Rank], DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS DenseRank FROM Employees RANK() and DENSE_RANK() functions with PARTITION BY clause : Notice when the partition changes from Female to Male Rank is reset to 1 SELECT Name, Salary, Gender, RANK() OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS [Rank], DENSE_RANK() OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS DenseRank FROM Employees Use case for RANK and DENSE_RANK functions : Both these functions can be used to find Nth highest salary. However, which function to use depends on what you want to do when there is a tie. Let me explain with an example. If there are 2 employees with the FIRST highest salary, there are 2 different business cases 1. If your business case is, not to produce any result for the SECOND highest salary, then use RANK function 2. If your business case is to return the next Salary after the tied rows as the SECOND highest Salary, then use DENSE_RANK function Since we have 2 Employees with the FIRST highest salary. Rank() function will not return any rows for the SECOND highest Salary. WITH Result AS ( SELECT Salary, RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS Salary_Rank FROM Employees ) SELECT TOP 1 Salary FROM Result WHERE Salary_Rank = 2 Though we have 2 Employees with the FIRST highest salary. Dense_Rank() function returns, the next Salary after the tied rows as the SECOND highest Salary WITH Result AS ( SELECT Salary, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS Salary_Rank FROM Employees ) SELECT TOP 1 Salary FROM Result WHERE Salary_Rank = 2 You can also use RANK and DENSE_RANK functions to find the Nth highest Salary among Male or Female employee groups. The following query finds the 3rd highest salary amount paid among the Female employees group WITH Result AS ( SELECT Salary, Gender, DENSE_RANK() OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY Salary DESC) AS Salary_Rank FROM Employees ) SELECT TOP 1 Salary FROM Result WHERE Salary_Rank = 3 AND Gender = 'Female' Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/rank-and-denserank-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/rank-and-denserank-in-sql-server_1.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

Oracle 12c PL/SQL Security Features - Lesson 4 of 8 - Roles and PLSQL

06:21
Learn how Roles really work with Oracle PL/SQL and why a privilege granted via a role can't be used in PL/SQL. Demonstrations, examples. See all lessons and many more free Oracle Database tutorials at https://www.skillbuilders.com/free-oracle-database-tutorials John Watson: We have the business of roles - roles and PL/SQL. The point here is that roles are invisible to PL/SQL. When you compile your code, only direct privileges are available. When you run your code, only direct privileges are available. This is for definer's rights, I should say. When you run the code, only direct privileges are available to grant to the definer. In effect, the definer's rights code, all roles are disabled within the stored procedure. And certainly roles are disabled when compiling the code. Functionally, it's equivalent to having issued the command SET ROLE NONE. Why is this? Why is it you can't use your privileges? It's perfectly straightforward. It's a technology limitation. Quickly to see what's going on. If I go in and say - let me connect or create a clear schema. I'll create myself, grant dba to jw identified by jw. I've created a user and given him ridiculously high privileges. Connect.... What can you do? You can do pretty much anything. If he wants to delete from scott.emp, he can do it. Let's roll back, because along with his dba role, he has the ability to pretty much anything to use the data. Now we'll create a procedure. If I create a procedure, create delemp as begin, and in there I delete from scott.emp, end, compilation errors. What are they? Show error. At line 2 table of view doesn't exist. That's line 2 delete from scott.emp. I remember way back in version 7, this cause so much confusion before we realized what was going on. It's quite simple that when we are within the code, as the definer or the invoker, because this is definer's rights code, when we are within the definer's rights code block or indeed when we are compiling a definer's rights code block, the roles are disabled and that's why we cannot see it. But why is this and why do I say it's a technology limitation? It's because roles can be enabled and disabled. They can be enabled or disabled. That makes it logically impossible to consider a role when executing a stored procedure because I might have the role enabled while I compile it, but how do I know that it's going to be enabled when I run it? If I grant execute on the code to a third party, he doesn't have the role at all and that he must not even be logged on. So it becomes a logical impossibility because of the way roles are used because roles are enabled or disabled. You can dynamically switch them on and off. It's a logical impossibility to use role within definer's rights program module. Invoker's rights code, however, is very different. That infuses some interesting issues. Invoker's rights code can use any roles that happen to be enabled for the user at the time that he invokes it in exactly the same way that an anonymous PL/SQL can use any enabled roles. In the security point of view, the definer can in effect grab any roles within his code that the invoker happens to have. Dave: [Question], John, pardon. How do you enable or disable a role? John: Right now there's several techniques. I won't spend too much time demonstrating. The easiest technique will be alter - I can set role none. And that will have disabled all my roles. Now if you look at this, I've got nothing. If I try to run my code and query - let's see. Yes. If I try to delete from scott.emp I can't see it. So I'll set role dba and now of course I can. That's the easiest way. In fact, there are much more [05:07 inaudible] ways to switch roles on and off. We can do it with operating system authentication and I can do it with proxy authentication. We have a persistent session through application server as well as a user when we pass that session out to many of the users that can switch roles on and off. That's the persistent session switch identities. Perhaps, best of all, I can create what I call secure application roles well it protect the role with a package and that can contest any number of issues - environment variables, maybe the time, maybe your IP address, perhaps the program you're using and switch roles on and off accordingly. So there are many ways for controlling roles and you should do it. Blindly granting roles and letting them be enabled all the time is not good security. The end result for this, however, you can get some pretty unexpected results within your code. I've tried to run through in our first half hour some of the issues that we see with PL/SQL in release 11g and earlier. After a short break, we'll move on to the 12c features.

Part 2 SQL query to get organization hierarchy

These are already discussed in SQL Server Tutorial. 1. Self-Join - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnYSN_7qwgg 2. CTE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXB5b-7HJHk 3. Recursive CTE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGoV0wTMCg0 Here is the problem definition: 1. Employees table contains the following columns a) EmployeeId, b) EmployeeName c) ManagerId 2. If an EmployeeId is passed, the query should list down the entire organization hierarchy i.e who is the manager of the EmployeeId passed and who is managers manager and so on till full hierarchy is listed. For example, Scenario 1: If we pass David's EmployeeId to the query, then it should display the organization hierarchy starting from David. Scenario 2: If we pass Lara's EmployeeId to the query, then it should display the organization hierarchy starting from Lara. We will be Employees table for this demo. SQL to create and populate Employees table with test data Create table Employees ( EmployeeID int primary key identity, EmployeeName nvarchar(50), ManagerID int foreign key references Employees(EmployeeID) ) GO Insert into Employees values ('John', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Tom', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Lara', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Simon', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('David', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Stacy', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Sam', NULL) GO Update Employees Set ManagerID = 8 Where EmployeeName IN ('Mark', 'Steve', 'Lara') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 2 Where EmployeeName IN ('Stacy', 'Simon') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 3 Where EmployeeName IN ('Tom') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 5 Where EmployeeName IN ('John', 'Sam') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 4 Where EmployeeName IN ('David') GO Here is the SQL that does the job Declare @ID int ; Set @ID = 7; WITH EmployeeCTE AS ( Select EmployeeId, EmployeeName, ManagerID From Employees Where EmployeeId = @ID UNION ALL Select Employees.EmployeeId , Employees.EmployeeName, Employees.ManagerID From Employees JOIN EmployeeCTE ON Employees.EmployeeId = EmployeeCTE.ManagerID ) Select E1.EmployeeName, ISNULL(E2.EmployeeName, 'No Boss') as ManagerName From EmployeeCTE E1 LEFT Join EmployeeCTE E2 ON E1.ManagerID = E2.EmployeeId

Oracle 12c Database New Features - Pluggable Database - Video 1

17:25
Oracle 12c Database New Features - Pluggable Database - Video 1 1. Pluggable Database * Oracle 12c introduces a new feature called 'Pluggable Database'. Here Oracle Metadata and user data are totally separated into two sections. One is Container DB (or CDB) which will hold Oracle Metadata. The other is Pluggable DB (or PDB) which will hold user data. How does a Pluggable Database work? In the regular database, Oracle's metadata and user's application data are integrated. For beginners, Oracle Metadata is the data that is present when you install a new Oracle Database (without any sample schemas). Even though it can be called as an empty database, it still has data provided by Oracle. This data is needed by the database to function. For example, the objects owned by SYS, SYSTEM are mostly metadata. Then user data is entered into that database. They will go under multiple user schemas. Now the database is being used by the users. Now a situation arises so that we need to create another database on the same server. Why? Let us say that you need to provide data to two clients. And you don't want one client to other's data. And your data is contained in an extensive set of application schemas. In this case, making a copy of those applications schemas into a different set of names and making them reside in the same database is very difficult. So, you provide two separate databases. This also ensures that there is no security violation. So, we install another new database, which comes with Oracle Metadata. Then we load the user data. In this method, which is currently being used (Year 2013), there will be a need for more memory for both the database instances. There will be two SGAs, two sets of smon, pmon and other background processes running. Then if we need to copy one database to another, we need to rely on extensive procedures which includes exporting the data from the source database first, then removing the data at the target and then finally loading the data in there. After that, we need to take care of the user security and object privileges etc. So, if you want to provide data for multiple tenants, that is multiple clients, then with the current set of features (till Oracle 11g), we have to create multiple databases. That is, one database for one client. In otherwords, there is no multi-tenancy. Multi-Tenancy is becoming an important requirement in cloud infrastructure, these days. You would like to have the ability of providing data to multiple clients from the same database system with full confidence in security. This can be achieved in Pluggable Database. In a Pluggable Database, Oracle basically separates its metadata entirely from the user data. Metadata is stored in a section called Container DB. Then the user data are stored in Pluggable DBs. It also stores user metadata in the Pluggable DB. By the way, what is user metadata? For example, earlier, the list of user accounts that exist in a database is tightly inegrated with Oracle Metadata. Now, with the separation of Container DB and Pluggable DB, the user accounts must exist in the Pluggable DB. So, the Pluggable DB not only contains user data, but also some user metadata. So, what are the benefits? * Multi-Tenancy - We can bring in two Pluggable DBs under one Container DB. Both will be totally segregated, but yet controlled by one instance. This is an important feature for SaaS (Software as a Service) platforms, Cloud, On-Demand and Vendor Managed Application solutions. * Easy cloning/copying. Now the cloning and copying the databases across servers would be much easier. Just clone a Pluggable DB and plug-it-in in a different server. * Very easy upgrades and patching.

7. Compile-time warnings help avoid "WHEN OTHERS THEN NULL".

03:23
One of Tom Kyte's favorite pet peeves, the following exception sections "swallow up" errors. EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN NULL; EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE (SQLERRM); In fact, any exception handler that does not re-raise the same exception or another, runs the risk of hiding errors from the calling subprogram, your users, and yourself as you debug your code. Generally, you should log the error, then re-raise it. There are certainly some cases in which this advice does not hold (for example: a function that fetches a single row for a primary key. If there is no row for the key, it's not an application error, so just return NULL). In those cases, include a comment so that the person maintaining your code in the distant future knows that you weren't simply ignoring the Wisdom of the Kyte. Example: EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN /* No company or this ID, let calling subprogram decide what to do */ RETURN NULL; One way to avoid this problem is to turn on compile-time warnings. Then when your program unit is compiled, you will be warned if the compiler has identified an exception handler that does not contain a RAISE statement or a call to RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR.
