Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. Analytical Functions in oracle explained with real examples
This video explains analytical functions and how they are implemented in real projects. Analytical functions are somewhat similar to aggregate functions, but they offer much more. Why use analytical function ? They allow you to write fast and concise queries which otherwise will involve self join and long processing times They allow you to perform aggregate functions independently on sets of partitions. You can access values from previous rows in current row and you can restrict the window on which you want to apply this analytical function. I have given additional practice exercises along with the dataset so that you can comfortably work with analytical functions. You can find the sample problems along with dataset in the below link. http://www.internshipsfromhome.com/oracle-analytical-functions-ddl-and-dml/

Very Large Databases Lessons Learned
Whoever coined the term "one size fits all" was not a DBA. Very large databases (VLDBs) have different needs from their smaller counterparts, and the techniques for effectively managing them need to grow along with their contents. In this session, join Microsoft Certified Master Bob Pusateri as he shares lessons learned over years of maintaining databases over 20TB in size. This talk will include techniques for speeding up maintenance operations before they start running unacceptably long, methods for minimizing user impact while critical processes run, the awesome world of data compression, and new features in SQL Server 2014 and 2016 that can really make your life easier. You'll also see how generally-accepted best practices aren't always the best idea for VLDB environments, and how, when, and why deviating from them can be appropriate. Just because databases are huge doesn't mean they aren't manageable, attend this session and see for yourself!

Best Practices for Database Deployment - Grant Fritchey
The easiest part of any deployment is running the deployment script on production. But what have you done to prepare that script for production? Was the script tested? Is the script tightly coupled with the application code? The difference between a successful deployment and a failed or problematic deployment is all the preparation work you've done to ensure that you're deploying the right script, the right way to your production environment. In this session, Grant Fritchey, Product Evangelist at Red Gate, will explore best practices that you can implement to ensure that your deployments are as successful as they can be. This talk is from the SQL in the City Deployment Stairway Seminar, held at Red Gate in Cambridge, 10th January 2014.

Database Design 39 - Indexes (Clustered, Nonclustered, Composite Index)
This video covers the basics of indexes. Indexing is an extremely important step of database design. Without Indexes database queries can take a substantial amount of time and hog system resources. The main two classifications of indexes are clustered and non-clustered indexes. Clustered indexes are usually the primary key and determine how the data is actually stored in the table. These are the fastest and most effective. Non-clustered indexes sort a reference to data that is still fast but doesn't actually determine how the data is structured. The best tip I can give you is to use indexes but don't over use them. Having loads of indexes on columns that are barely ever in a where clause or join can bog down the database. This is because every time the table is updated the index must also be updated! When a database looks through a table for certain where conditions on a column that does not have an index, it does an entire table scan. This is not a good practice for large databases (or even small databases but not as bad). With an index the database will do an index seek and quickly find the data you are looking for. Composite indexes consist of two or more columns within one index. Use these when you plan on using the two columns together for a database query WHERE clause. Create MySQL Database - MySQL Workbench Tutorial
We model a MySQL database using a diagram in MySQL workbench. We then forward engineer the diagram to create MySQL database on the server. MySQL workbench is a powerful tool for modeling and creating databases and we take advantage of it's relationship tool to create many to many relationship between our main movie table, and stars, directors and genres tables. I don't go into too much detail on how the relationships work in this video on purpose, I wanted to make a general overview of how MySQL workbench can be used to quickly created the model of a database with relationships between tables. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Hey guys, I'm now using Patreon to share improved and updated video lesson material. For a small fee you can access all the downloadable files from this lesson (source code, icons & graphics, cheat sheets) and everything else included in the video from the Patreon page. Additionally, you will get access to ALL Clever Techie videos in HD format with no ads. When you first open the Workbench, create a new connection by clicking on the + icon. I'm going to name my connection localhost and and put "root" for the username. Then press press the storage vault button and enter your password. You can then click on "test the connection" and you should get the message: "successfully made the MySQL connection." At this point, click OK, and then double click on this newly created connection to connect to your MySQL database server. Now go to File---New Model and double click on Add Diagram. This is the part of the program where we're going to be designing our database model. You will see a toolbar on the left side along with all the tools available which we can use to model the database. Go ahead and double-click on the New Table icon which will place a new table in the diagram. When the table shows up on the diagram, double-click on it, the new box will show up at the bottom of the screen where we can rename our table as well as specify all the column names and their appropriate data types. Name this table that we have just created "movies", and then for the very first column, enter "id" which will be the unique identifier for this table. This id will also act as primary key which is going to auto increment so make sure the primary key and auto-increment check boxes are both checked as well as not null (NN). Now let's go ahead and enter the rest of the column names. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ( Website ) https://clevertechie.com - PHP, JavaScript, Wordpress, CSS, and HTML tutorials in video and text format with cool looking graphics and diagrams. How to Structure Your Schema-less Database
Adam Fuchs, CTO and Co-Founder of sqrrl, discusses how to bring structure to noSQL database environments in this whiteboard session hosted by Wikibon's Dave Vellante. NoSQL continues to gain adoption, primarily due to the need for it in corporate daily operations and the freedom it provides compared to the rigid schemas associated with relational technologies. That's the big picture from Coucbbase, which today announced the results of a survey it did with 1,300 practitioners. Couchbase is one of the leading vendors in the NoSQL market so it's not a big surprise to see them publish these rosy results. But the finding do speak to the overall transformation of the database market and the roaring plume of data that is shaping a new tech landscape. I agree that NoSQL has moved beyond the experimentation phase. In part, you can thank Oracle for that. The fact they jumped into the market has given customers more reason to invest more capital into the technology. It's a validation point. Here are some of the results from the survey: Nearly half of the more than 1,300 respondents indicated they have funded NoSQL projects in the first half of this year. In companies with more than 250 developers, nearly 70% will fund NoSQL projects over the course of 2012. 49% cited rigid schemas as the primary driver for their migration from relational to NoSQL database technology. Lack of scalability and high latency/low performance also ranked highly among the reasons given for migrating to NoSQL (see chart below for more details). 40% overall say that NoSQL is very important or critical to their daily operations, with another 37% indicating it is becoming more important. Couchbase asked how companies are using NoSQL Some interesting answers included that go beyond the traditional use cases: real-time tracking and segmentation of users for ad targeting disaster recovery inventory tracking manufacturing automation insurance underwriting multi-call center operations (with replication of production data) Twitter stream analysis Respondents were also asked about what they expect and hope for out of NoSQL in 2012. Couchbase breaks down what they say into four boxes: schemas; replacing RDMS/making it default database; scalability/performance and speed/agility in app development. Answers included: Gaining freedoms from inflexible schemas that do not adapt well to changing business requirements. Making NoSQL an integral part of daily operations and handle at least 30% of transaction load. Allowing the capability to share billions of documents across multiple commodity servers. Help in deploying new features faster without having to manage SQL patch scripts and migrations. ServicesAngle NoSQL -- it fits with so much that we write about. It's a huge factor in the transformation of the enterprise and a necessary focus for any services provider looking to provide a level of value added services.
