Simulation - Lean Principles Applied to Construction (v 1.2)
Lean Principle Simulation "House of Cards" version 1.2 Your feedback is welcome and appreciated! Please let us know if you would like to use this in a group setting, or if you have any suggestions to improve fun, playability, application of lean concepts. This is a simulation designed to stimulate thought of lean processes in a group setting. It is simple, requires minimal resources, and is easily scalable from small to large groups. Click the below link to read the paper based on this Lean Simulation, as presented at the 2017 International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC). http://iglc.net/Papers/Details/1376 ___________________________________________________ Were the directions and setup easy to understand? Does this simulation help understand lean principles and their application to the construction industry? Which lean principles were demonstrated by this simulation? Which phases improved collaboration, kaizen, 5S, waste minimization? Did your team improve (shorten) the performance time from phase 1 through 6? If not, why not? Do you have any recommendations to improve this simulation? (how to make it more fun, incorporate other lean principles?) Are you interested in using this simulation (or something like it) to stimulate lean thinking in a group setting? ___________________________________________________ Notes: *** In this simulation, we apply the principles to the construction industry. The simulation can easily be adapted to apply the same principles to business and other industries as well. *** This simulation does not define the lean concepts or construction. The goal is to intuitively discover the principles and how they improve performance through a simple game played with three players and a deck of playing cards. *** A fourth player is recommended to observe, record, and keep time. If used in a group setting with a facilitator, an assistant is recommended to compile and compare group times.

Load Bearing Wall Framing Basics - Structural Engineering and Home Building Part One
http://www.homebuildingandrepairs.com/engineering/index.html Click on this link if you're interested in a few more of the videos I made on structural engineering, home building and construction. This video will provide you with what I consider to be a simple view of how a load bearing wall works along with a few structural engineering points on home building. The most popular video to date I have made has to do with providing a few tips about load bearing structural walls and this will be the first in a series of related videos to provide more information for do-it-yourselfers as well as professionals. Don't forget to check out some of our other videos and visit our website for more information about construction and remodeling.

7 principles for building better cities | Peter Calthorpe
More than half of the world's population already lives in cities, and another 2.5 billion people are projected to move to urban areas by 2050. The way we build new cities will be at the heart of so much that matters, from climate change to economic vitality to our very well-being and sense of connectedness. Peter Calthorpe is already at work planning the cities of the future and advocating for community design that's focused on human interaction. He shares seven universal principles for solving sprawl and building smarter, more sustainable cities. How does an Induction Motor work ?
Please support us at https://www.patreon.com/LearnEngineering so that we can add one more member to the team and will be able to release 2 educational videos/month. The invention of induction motors permanently altered the course of human civilization. This hundred-year-old motor—invented by the great scientist Nikola Tesla—is the most common motor type, even today. In fact, about 50 percent of global electric power consumption is due to induction motors. Let’s get into the workings of induction motors, or more specifically, into Nikola Tesla’s genius thinking. How to Make a Bell Siphon: Construction and Principles
https://www.tngun.com/bell-siphon-construction-and-principles/ http://www.amazon.com/Aquaponic-Gardening-Step-By-Step-Vegetables-Together/dp/086571701X/Sheschinc-20 A bell siphon is an "easy" way to drain a grow-bed in a aquaponic or hydroponic system. The idea is that in an ebb and flow system, you have a tank of fertilizer (for aquaponics its a fish tank) and a grow bed full of plants. You then pump the fertilizer into the grow-bed and the plants eat. The problem is that you cannot generally have the plant roots submerged in water all the time as the roots will rot. And you have to have a means to empty the tank so it does not overflow.

Construction Law Webinar Series - Introduction to NEC contracts and principles
NEC3 has become an increasingly familiar contract form in the construction industry and is being increasingly used by contracting parties for all types of construction projects. The NEC3 suite of contracts was updated in June 2017 to become NEC4. Whilst this is an evolution of the NEC series, and many of the unique features of NEC contracts have been retained, important changes have been made which contract users need to be aware of. This webinar series will give participants an understanding of the updated NEC4 form of contract. Our speakers will consider the background and philosophy of the NEC form; the key changes found in NEC4; and best practice and recent case law. The first webinar in this series will cover the development of the NEC contract and will recap the NEC principles and distinguishing features; comparing those to other standard form contracts.

The Fundamental Principles of Construction of Logistics System
Today we will talk about the fundamental principles of constructionof logistics system. Before describing the principles of the construction and functioning of logistics system, we will definethe term "System" including its elements that will be considered. In the end, we will link the principles of the functioning of a logistics system and the tools for managing this system. So, aGoal is primary. The Goal is the direction of movement of the elements inside the system. We can say that the goal determines everything: the starting point, the endpoint, the direction, the elements of a flow and the resources inside the logistic system. We will not consider what the goal is, because this information can be easily found both in the electronic and paper sources, orin your own personal experience. This information is not important at the moment, - what is important is that we have already mentioned several important elements of the system. And this information allows us to proceed to the next step in determining the elements of the system.
