The idea is that in an ebb and flow system, you have a tank of fertilizer (for aquaponics its a fish tank) and a grow bed full of plants. You then pump the fertilizer into the grow-bed and the plants eat. The problem is that you cannot generally have the plant roots submerged in water all the time as the roots will rot. And you have to have a means to empty the tank so it does not overflow.

We can say that the goal determines everything: the starting point, the endpoint, the direction, the elements of a flow and the resources inside the logistic system. We will not consider what the goal is, because this information can be easily found both in the electronic and paper sources, orin your own personal experience. This information is not important at the moment, - what is important is that we have already mentioned several important elements of the system. And this information allows us to proceed to the next step in determining the elements of the system.
