Dead Sea Scrolls Bible Study #7: Proverbs Major Variants & Q&A on Tithes, Sacrifices, DSS, & Charity

02:09:21
In this study, I discuss: 1.Tithing, and why I believe tithing is valid. I discuss the three tithes mentioned in the Law, and the tithes that the Essenes and Apostles taught. I equate the Essene tithe with city taxes. 2.Why the Essenes did animal sacrifices in the beginning but ceased doing animal sacrifices in the first century AD. 3.I provide a brief overview of the books in the Dead Sea Scrolls: Enochian writings, Patriarchal writings, Mosaic writings, Davidic writings, Solomonic writings, prophetic writings, and Essene compositions 4.Why the Essenes hid the Dead Sea Scrolls. 5.I discuss the absence of the apostles and NT in the Dead Sea Scrolls. 6.I discuss why people have an obligation to take care of poor people. 7.I begin to go through the Book of Proverbs and show the major differences between the LXX version and the MT version, and why I believe the LXX version is more authentic and closer to the original version. 8.1:7 LXX has an extra clause about discernment. 2:2 LXX has an extra clause about applying instruction to sons. 2:8 LXX says "them that fear him" instead of "holy ones". 2:15-17 LXX speaks of a straight way and righteous purpose instead of a strange woman. 2:18 LXX extra clause about Sheol and the giants. 3:15-16 LXX adds a clause speaking of Law coming of a righteous woman's mouth. 3:22 LXX has an extra clause about length of life and health. 3:28 LXX adds a clause about how we don't know what the next day is going to bring. 4:10 LXX is more repetitive about abundance. 4:15 LXX More detail about what to avoid. 4:27 LXX adds a passage about why we should turn away from evil evil. 5:19-20 LXX has "a woman not thine own" instead of "stranger". 6:6-8 LXX adds a proverb about the bee and her honey. 6:11 LXX adds things about a fountain and poverty fleeing. 6:16 LXX translates very differently about the six things YHWH hates and seven things that are abominable to Him. 7:1 LXX has an extra clause about sons honoring YHWH and fearing Him. 8:21-22 LXX adds filling treasures with good things. 9:12-18 LXX adds things about winds, birds, vineyard, husbandry, desert, barrenness, abstaining from strange water and fountain that you may have long life. 10:1 LXX doesn't say "proverbs of Solomon". 10:4 LXX adds clause about wise sons using fools as their servants. 10:5 LXX translates the hebrew very differently. 10:22 LXX adds a detail of upon the heads of the righteous. 11:30-31 LXX translates very differently. 12:9 LXX also translates it very differently. 12:11 LXX adds a clause about banquets of wine leading to dishonor. 12:13 LXX adds a clause about contending in the gates. 13:1 LXX is harsher, saying a disobedient son will be destroyed. 13:9-15 LXX translates very differently. Also adds extra clauses. 13:22-23 LXX translates differently. 14:16 LXX adds the details about joining with a transgressor. 14:22 LXX adds a section about the consequences of framing evil vs framing good. 15:1 LXX adds details about anger killing wise people. 15:4 LXX translates it very differently. 15:5 LXX adds a clause about keeping your own father's commandments. 15:18 LXX adds a sentence about the consequences of men who control their anger vs those and those who don't. 15:27-29 LXX has extra sentences which are found chapter 16 in the MT version. 16:5 LXX adds section about righteousness and justice. 16:17 LXX adds a section about prosperity and preservation of the soul and wisdom and how to get these things. 17:6 LXX adds a section about the faithful and faithless. 17:16 LXX adds a sentence about foolishness. 17:22 LXX speaks about good divorce and bad divorce. 22:8-11 LXX translates differently and adds clauses about giving to the poor and the council. 24:22 LXX adds a long section. 9.The order of the Book of Proverbs in the LXX is very different: 24:1-22; 30:1-14; 24:23-34; 30:15-31:9; chapters 25-29; 31:10-31.

What If You Could Talk to Animals | Proverbs for Kids #5

03:13
God uses some pretty unimportant animals to teach us some really important lessons. TALK ABOUT IT ******************************* http://www.pursuegod.org/what-if-you-could-talk-to-animals-proverbs-for-kids-5/ VIDEO NOTES ******************************* Hey kids! In today’s lesson we are going to be talking about animals. How many of you have pets at home? Some of you probably have cats, dogs, fish, or maybe hamsters. But have you ever wondered what it would be like to talk to those pets? I bet they’d have some silly things to say. Well, today we are going to talk about Proverbs 30. And in this Proverb, God is going to use animals to teach us some pretty wise lessons. God uses 4 animals that seem pretty unimportant: ants, rock badgers, locusts, and lizards. But these little animals have a lot to teach us. So let’s get started with our first animal, an ant! The Ant teaches us to prepare for the future. Even though ants seem pretty lame when you look at them, they teach us a really important lesson. Proverbs 30:25 Ants—they aren’t strong, but they store up food all summer. Ants are really small, and compared to humans they’re not very strong. But ants know how to work hard. They know that winter will come eventually, so they start saving up food in the summer. But why is this important to know as a kid? Because you should prepare for your future too! Some ways you can do that is by getting good grades, making good Christian friends, and learning how to make good choices. Rock Badger teaches us how to be safe. Rock badgers might sound scary but they’re actually small animals with short noses and no tail. They’re not strong, in fact, they’re really weak. But one thing rock badgers are really good at is staying safe. They live in little holes in the sides of cliffs to stay away from predators. But why is this important for us to know as a kid? Because God wants us to seek safety, too. He wants us to avoid danger. So, as a kid, your safety isn’t in hiding behind a rock. It’s in obeying God and choosing good friends. The Locust teaches us about strength in numbers. Locusts are basically just grasshoppers. So think about a grasshopper. Do you think that one little bug can do anything special all on it’s own? It can’t. But when there are a lot of locusts in one place, they can do a lot of damage. But why is this important for us to know as a kid? Here’s why. Locusts teach us that we can’t do things all on our own. We need to be around people who help us to live to honor God. We need to go to church to be around other Christian kids and choose good friends to hang around with at school. Now there’s one last animal that has a lesson to teach us. The Lizard teaches us about our bright future. Just like the rest of the animals in this lesson, there’s nothing very special about lizards. In fact, lizards are slow and pretty easy to catch. But lizards can get through any crack in a building. So, they can find their way into a beautiful castle. But why is this important for us to know as a kid? Well, as Christian kids, we crawl around here on earth like lowly lizards. But someday we’ll end up in heaven - thanks to Jesus! So, kids, remember what these 4 animals can teach us. Proverbs 23 King James Holy Bible

03:33
Proverbs 23 1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat. 4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. 5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. 6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: 7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. 8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words. 9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. 10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: 11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee. 12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge. 13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. 15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. 16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. 17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. 18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. 19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. 20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: 21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. 22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. 23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. 24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. 25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice. 26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. 27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. 28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. 29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. 33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. 34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. 35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

William Blake - The Proverbs of Hell

06:40
https://librivox.org/the-marriage-of-heaven-and-hell-by-william-blake-2/ The Proverbs of Hell In seed-time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy. Drive your cart and your plough over the bones of the dead. The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. Prudence is a rich ugly old maid courted by Incapacity. He who desires, but acts not, breeds pestilence. The cut worm forgives the plough. Dip him in the river who loves water. A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees. He whose face gives no light shall never become a star. Eternity is in love with the productions of time. The busy bee has no time for sorrow. The hours of folly are measured by the clock, but of wisdom no clock can measure. All wholesome food is caught without a net or a trap. Bring out number, weight, and measure in a year of dearth. No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings. A dead body revenges not injuries. The most sublime act is to set another before you. If the fool would persist in his folly he would become wise. Folly is the cloak of knavery. Shame is Pride's cloak. Prisons are built with stones of law, brothels with bricks of religion. The pride of the peacock is the glory of God. The lust of the goat is the bounty of God. The wrath of the lion is the wisdom of God. The nakedness of woman is the work of God. Excess of sorrow laughs, excess of joy weeps. The roaring of lions, the howling of wolves, the raging of the stormy sea, and the destructive sword, are portions of Eternity too great for the eye of man. The fox condemns the trap, not himself. Joys impregnate, sorrows bring forth. Let man wear the fell of the lion, woman the fleece of the sheep. The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship. The selfish smiling fool and the sullen frowning fool shall be both thought wise that they may be a rod. What is now proved was once only imagined. The rat, the mouse, the fox, the rabbit watch the roots; the Hon, the tiger, the horse, the elephant watch the fruits. The cistern contains, the fountain overflows. One thought fills immensity. Always be ready to speak your mind, and a base man will avoid you. Everything possible to be believed is an image of truth. The eagle never lost so much time as when he submitted to learn of the crow. The fox provides for himself, but God provides for the lion. Think in the morning, act in the noon, eat in the evening, sleep in the night. He who has suffered you to impose on him knows you. As the plough follows words, so God rewards prayers. The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction. Expect poison from the standing water. You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough. Listen to the fool's reproach; it is a kingly title. The eyes of fire, the nostrils of air, the mouth of water, the beard of earth. The weak in courage is strong in cunning. The apple tree never asks the beech how he shall grow, nor the lion the horse how he shall take his prey. The thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest. If others had not been foolish we should have been so. The soul of sweet delight can never be defiled. When thou seest an eagle, thou seest a portion of Genius. Lift up thy head! As the caterpillar chooses the fairest leaves to lay her eggs on, so the priest lays his curse on the fairest joys. To create a little flower is the labour of ages. Damn braces; bless relaxes. The best wine is the oldest, the best water the newest. Prayers plough not; praises reap not; joys laugh not; sorrows weep not. The head Sublime, the heart Pathos, the genitals Beauty, the hands and feet Proportion. As the air to a bird, or the sea to a fish, so is contempt to the con- temptible. The crow wished everything was black; the owl that everything was white. Exuberance is Beauty. If the lion was advised by the fox, he would be cunning. Improvement makes straight roads, but the crooked roads without Improvement are roads of Genius. Sooner murder an infant in its cradle than nurse unacted desires. Where man is not, nature is barren. Truth can never be told so as to be understood and not to be believed. Enough! or Too much.

Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau: The complete "Songs and proverbs of W. Blake Op. 74" (Britten)

23:38
Songs and proverbs of William Blake (Op. 74): I. The Pride of the Peacock...London 00:00 II. Prisons are built...The chimney-sweeper 03:07 III. The Bird anest....A poison tree 05:57 IV. Think in the morning...The Tyger 10:25 V. The Tygers of wrath...The Fly 12:59 VI. The hours of folly...Ah, sun flower 15:47 VII. To see a world...Every night and every morn 20:02 Britten, Benjamin (1913-76) -composer Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau -baritone Benjamin Britten -piano Playlist: "The art of British song: Elgar, Somervell, Williams, Finzi..": https://www.youtube.com/playlist?action_edit=1&list=PLdM8VSWYvcWG_X-lGBATHMoJTGPlAV1TQ In 1965, the Aldeburgh Festival was the venue for the substantial and challenging baritone cycle, the Songs and Proverbs of William Blake. Britten's close association with the legendary German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau began in the early 1960s, and the baritone parts in Britten's War Requiem (1962) and Cantata Misericordium (1963) had been written specifically for him to sing. Shortly afterwards the composer embarked on the composition of a solo song-cycle designed to showcase Fischer-Dieskau's unique blend of intense lyricism and dramatic characterization, and Britten turned for inspiration to the vivid and sometimes visionary poetry of William Blake. Britten's working title for the cycle-which was based on fourteen short but striking Blake texts selected by Pears-was Songs and Sentences of William Blake. The score was completed on 6 April 1965, the manuscript inscribed with the words 'For Dieter: the past and the future'. The work, under its slightly revised title, was first performed by its dedicatee and composer at Aldeburgh's Parish Church on 24 June 1965, and six months later the two men recorded their powerful interpretation for Decca at Kingsway Hall, London. Britten's Blake cycle returns in places to the dark intensity of his much earlier Blake setting, 'The Sick Rose' ('Elegy') from the Serenade for tenor, horn and strings of 1943. Both the fully chromatic melody and striking image of cankerous corruption in the earlier song look directly ahead to the Songs and Proverbs-which are based on texts drawn from Blake's Songs of Experience (1794), in which 'The Sick Rose' is also to be found. With the addition of one poem from the Songs of Innocence (1789) and several epigrams from the undated Proverbs of Hell, Britten created a continuous structure in which the Proverbs are set to recurrent but constantly reworked ritornello material, a structural plan familiar from other Britten works of the late 1950s and early 1960s (principally the orchestral song-cycle Nocturne, the opera A Midsummer Night's Dream and the Cantata Misericordium). These stark Proverbs are clearly distinguished from the songs they punctuate by their disconcerting lack of metrical synchronization between voice and piano-a feature retained from the Church Parable Curlew River, composed in the previous year-and they also make limited use of twelve-note techniques. As so often in Britten's later music, the tension between luminous diatonicism and elusive chromaticism is exploited throughout the cycle as a potent symbol for the conflict between innocence and experience at the heart of Blake's poetry. The settings of 'London' and 'Every Night and every Morn' that frame the cycle are closely related in their ambiguous and subtly disturbing chromaticism, while greater tonal simplicity is reserved for natural scenes: the bright glow of 'The Tyger' and the lament for 'The Fly'. Moments of tremendous rhetorical power are strategically located in 'A Poison Tree' and 'Ah, Sun-flower'. 'A Poison Tree' features a highly original use of simple major and minor triads within a context of chromatic saturation. The young Britten had previously set this same Blake text to music on 2 March 1935; the earlier song remained unperformed until 1986. As in the opera The Turn of the Screw (1954), the intense chromaticism of the mature treatment of this gripping text serves as a graphic symbol of cankerous evil, and forms the utterly chilling core of the cycle. Proverbs on Acceptance

02:46
A set of ten proverbs on acceptance: PROVERBS ON ACCEPTANCE 1. Acceptance is like a calm sea upon which the will can sail smoothly, whereas upon a rebellious sea the will can barely make headway against the wind. 2. One can accept evil, even one’s own evil, as inseparable from life without surrendering to it, simultaneously embracing those who are evil and vigorously opposing them. 3. Acceptance of desire – that is, feeling it vividly with neither guilt nor shame – paradoxically frees one from it, so that one need no longer surrender to it or struggle against it, but can simply act according to reason and love. 4. Acceptance of oneself is like becoming one’s own parent, loving oneself unconditionally while attempting to guide one’s way. 5. One can either dance across a rock-strewn field or curse the rocks as one stumbles and weaves. To the rocks it is all the same. 6. One of the least satisfactory things one can do is wish one were doing something else. 7. One ought not worry about getting what one wants, but rather about wanting what one gets. 8. The secret of happiness is simple – if one is alive and not in pain, one is happy. But only if one knows it. 9. The quality of one’s life is determined more by attitude than by altitude. 10. Acceptance is not acquiescence. What is surrendered is not the will but the heart. © by Nicholas Gordon If you enjoyed this poem, please like, comment on, or share it so that it might be seen and enjoyed by others. Does not understanding raise her voice? 2 At the highest point along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; 3 beside the gate leading into the city, at the entrance, she cries aloud: 4 “To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, set your hearts on it.[a] 6 Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are upright to those who have found knowledge. 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. 12 “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. 13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight, I have power. 15 By me kings reign and rulers issue decrees that are just; 16 by me princes govern, and nobles—all who rule on earth.[b] 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver. 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, 21 bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me and making their treasuries full. 22 “The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works,[c][d] before his deeds of old; 23 I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be. 24 When there were no watery depths, I was given birth, when there were no springs overflowing with water; 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, 26 before he made the world or its fields or any of the dust of the earth. 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. 30 Then I was constantly[e] at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. 32 “Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. 34 Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. 35 For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. 36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.” Footnotes: Proverbs 8:5 Septuagint; Hebrew foolish, instruct your minds Proverbs 8:16 Some Hebrew manuscripts and Septuagint; other Hebrew manuscripts all righteous rulers Proverbs 8:22 Or way; or dominion Proverbs 8:22 Or The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work; or The Lord brought me forth at the beginning of his work Proverbs 8:30 Or was the artisan; or was a little child

Download this scripture song and more at the website below for free download: http://tirzahjoy.org/pro23 Proverbs 23 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV) 23 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 2 and put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. I will seek it yet again. proverbs23.song.mp4

Here's a few Icelandic proverbs about time. Did you know that Icelanders have a very different idea of time than the other Nordics? More about it here: http://blogs.transparent.com/icelandic/2014/06/24/a-love-letter-to-the-icelandic-disregard-of-time/

The Bible says Jesus is the only way to heaven. "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me" (John 14:6). You cannot earn your way to heaven by doing "good works". "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) Salvation comes by believing and confessing in the Lord Jesus: "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9-10) "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture says, whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed" (Romans 10:9-11) THE GOSPEL! ~ 1 Corinthians 15: 1 – 4 says “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” Are you saved? How to know Jesus: Jesus Christ came to earth, died on a cross for our sin debt, and rose again from the grave so that you could walk in relationship with God the Father. God loves you so much that over 2,000 years ago, He sent His one and only Son to die for your sin, so that He could have a personal relationship with you. If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and are ready to, just cry out to Him with child-like faith and talk to Him like you would to your best friend. That is what prayer is! Just talk to God like you would a friend. Or pray something like this: Dear Lord Jesus, I am a sinner and I need You. I need Your peace in my life. Father, I believe You died on the cross for my sins and that You are the Son of God. I believe You rose again and that You are seated in heaven. Lord, I want to repent for my sins and have You come into my heart and guide me to the truth. Father, please cleanse me and make me new in You. I thank You, Lord, and ask this in Jesus’ Name. ~ Amen. Now get into His Word to find out who He is. He wrote and preserved the Bible all these years so that we could learn about Him and come to a saving knowledge of Him and be saved.
