INSTALLING ORACLE 12c DB WITH DBCA

06:43
This video shows how to install a non-cdb database using a file system with the 12c installer. To save space, the flash recovery area is reduced. You can use the menus to change this to suit your needs. The installation does not take advantage of multiplexing files on different areas of storage. However, you can do this later, moving controlfiles and log files onto different file systems to simulate real life DBA tasks.

This is some education for LIEnucksFails2 on why linux was only slightly slower then windows 7 for a file transfer. It all has to do with how the file system works. And if he were to mount NTFS in linux he would see linux using NTFS faster then windows 7.

This also explains about how to create an user and grant a role to that user. In this case, the role granted is 'dba'. The following things happen in this Oracle Database Tutorial. * We invoke SQLPLUS using the CMD utility which came with Windows 7 (Just click START in your Windows 7 and type CMD in the field which is immediately above the START button. A CMD window will open) * We also invoke SQLPLUS using the program group in which Oracle has been installed. * We also invoke Database Control * We then create a user. * And we assign a password to that user. * Using those (username and password) we are able to connect to the Oracle Database.

How to automate Win98 Setup

03:32
Here's my automated Windows install. I wanted an easier way of installing Windows and I was getting tired of typing out all of the commands to get it started. Firstly, I recently discovered that copying the Win98 folder off the install CD to the hard drive made the overall install faster. This came in handy when installing drivers, the system doesn't ask for something off the installation CD. It's already on the hard drive. First, the prep work: 1. Format your drive(s) and decide where you want to place the Win98 folder off of the CD. I chose to partition my single hard drive and put it on the D: partition. 2. Copy the entire contents of Win98 folder to its destination. 3. Do a clean install of Windows 98 and configure it to your liking (components, your name, orga, etc.). 4. With the install CD in the drive, navigate to \tools\reskit\batch and launch the setup executable. Follow the prompts. 5. Launch the new program and follow the directions presented. What Batch does is it will create an answer file for the installation. It will offer to automatically answer all of the fields that you would normally type in, such as the product key, your name, accepting the EULA, etc. 6. Make sure all boxes are ticked on the 'Setup Prompts' to assure the install process is entirely automated. 7. Finally click on 'Save settings to INF' and name the file. Now moving on to creating a batch file for the automation. Here, this is what I would normally type at the DOS prompt to start installing the system. Create a text document and copy/paste this in: cls C: md windows cd windows md options cd options md cabs cd cabs D: cd win98 ; Again, my Win98 folder off the CD is copied here. Adjust yours accordingly. copy *.* C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS C: cls setup.exe d:\timem.inf /ie /is /iv /nr timem.inf is the name of my answer file. The switches used are as follows: ie switch skips the creation of emergency boot disks. is switch skips Scandisk before installing. iv switch disables the features advertisements during the install. nr switch skips the registry check. You may mix and match to your tastes. This configuration I like best because it speeds up the overall process. Name your file with a simple short name and with a .BAT extension. I named mine START.BAT Copy your .BAT file into the same directory as your Win98 installation folder. The result will be what you see in the video: 1. Directories created (Windows, Options and Cabs) 2. Files copied to CABS folder 3. Automated setup starts Caveat: There seems to be a bug during the install. Once the first reboot occurs, the installation will pause on the Registration, EULA, and product key screens. However, they are still filled in. I've been trying to find a way to get them automatically accepted, but to no avail. Anyone who might know of a way of doing so, please let me know.

How does an Oracle database start? - Database Tutorial 38

12:39
Video 38 How does an Oracle database start? - Database Tutorial 38 How does an Oracle database start? - Database Tutorial 38 The startup of sequence of an Oracle Database. 1) Startup process looks for a parameter file in the default location. 2) If a parameter file is found, it then parses it and gets the information about the control files. 3) With that information, it reads the control files. 4) Upto this point, we can say that the Oracle Instance has been started in nomount mode. 5) The same can be achieved by issuing the following command in sqlplus. a) startup nomount; 6) Then, from the control files, the Instance gets to know about the details of the database and its related files. 7) It then 'mounts' the database. 8) At this point, the database has been started. But it can be only accessed by the DBAs. 9) This is called 'mount' mode. 10) The same can be achieved by issuing the following command in sqlplus. a) startup mount; 11) Then, once the database has mounted, it gets opened for other users. 12) This is called 'OPEN' mode. 13) This is the final mode of a startup process after which the database is available for use. 14) The same can be achieved by issuing the following command in sqlplus. a) startup 15) That concludes the startup.
