This is a short clipper cut with a slightly longer top to comb forward with a shorter front to flip up. This style requires proficiency in a few different barbering techniques to complete: clipper over comb, barber shear over comb, thinning shear over comb, clipper fading techniques, and blending techniques. For this particular model start on the top section using the scissor over comb technique. Start in the front and over direct or push the comb back slightly to leave the front longer to stand up. Take a full center section to create your guide cutting the hair to the desired length. Repeat this step on the each side. Make sure to keep the comb parallel to the floor the entire time you are cutting the top. This will leave the necessary weight in the corners.
Next, thin out the top. Use the thinning scissor over comb technique and repeat what you just did with the scissor over comb technique. This will help to make the hair cut hold it’s shape as it grows out along with showing a little bit of texture. Cut the parietal area before fading the sides. Use the scissor over comb technique again and remove the bulk in this area. This will make it easier to fade the sides without leaving a weight line to blend out. Blend this area by slightly rounding into your top guide. Make sure not to take too much leaving the hair sticking out. Move on to fading and blending the sides and back into the top. Start out with a 3 ½ detachable metal blade on an oster classic 76, Andis BGRC, Andis MVP, Oster Octane, Andis Supra ZR, or one of the many detachable blade clippers available. Use a slow fading motion and blend into the previous cut area. Repeat this step with a 2 metal detachable blade for your final fade length. Now, create a tapered outline to make the fade stand out. Use and adjustable clipper such as the Andis Envy, Andis Master, Wahl Designer, Wahl Senior, or Oster fast feed in the longest blade setting and use a scooping motion around the outline of the haircut to fade out. Repeat this step with lever adjusted halfway and then the shortest setting scooping the clipper a little bit lower each time to finish the taper. Last, use a t-outliner or trimmer to finish the haircut.
Line off the sideburns and the diagonal line behind the ears without cutting into the natural hairline. On the back of the neck use an upward shaving motion without getting too close to the tapered or faded hairline. When the cut is complete style the hair. Blow dry the hair thoroughly before applying any type of water soluble styling product. This model prefers a strong hold with a matte finish so we used our Zorian of New York shaping paste accomplish this.
