Lines of buses filled with Syrian refugees enter Turkey

01:17
(11 Aug 2012) STORYLINE: A long line of vans, cars and buses formed on the Syrian side of the Turkish-Syrian border on Saturday, filled with around around 1000 people fleeing the fighting in Syria. Having packed what few essential belongings they can carry, convoys of Syrians crossing into Turkey is now a daily sight as they seek temporary shelter in rural villages, schools and dusty tents across the border. The number of refugees stood at 50,227 on Thursday, according to the Turkish prime minister's office. Many of the refugees are being sheltered in temporary housing units or tent cities along the border. There is no immediate sign of a mass exodus following clashes in Aleppo. Turkish leaders, however, said they are preparing to host up to 100,000 refugees. Turkey, meanwhile, has reinforced its border troops with tanks, missile launchers and armoured combat vehicles over concerns that Turkish Kurdish rebels and Syrian Kurds were seizing control of some towns, including Qamishli, on the Syrian side of the border. Along the borders of Turkey 4/4 - The Last Wall: Cyprus

52:12
Episode 4 - The Last Wall: Cyprus How can that be that the inhabitants of an island in the Mediterranean sea fear each other so much that they are separated from each other by the last wall of Europe, for 38 years already. What is wrong in Cyprus? Bram Vermeulen travels Along the borders of Turkey. With the Europe collapsing on one hand and shattering regimes in the Arab world on the other hand, the Turkish influence in these regions will grow. Here the new power relations around the Mediterranean are being drawn. In this exploration conducted by Bram Vermeulen, we learn as much about the Turks as we do about ourselves. The boundaries make the countries and not the other way around. Borders define the country: this is where our domain ends and the domain of others begins. Turkey is a border country. A country that defines itself as cramping from its contrast with its neighbors. Turkey is non-Greek, non-Russian, non-Arabic. Turkey is the twilight zone between the Middle East and Europe. Bram Vermeulen travels in four episodes Along the borders of Turkey. Here the new power relations around the Mediterranean are being drawn. Big developments with huge consequences for the people living there. Vermeulen enters the twilight zones: Greece, Cyprus, Syria and Iraq, looking for the actual dividing lines between these neighboring countries. © VPRO October 2012 This channel offers some of the best travel series from the Dutch broadcaster VPRO. Russia: 'We are halting all contact with Turkey on military lines' - Shoigu

03:04
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the deployment of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system to boost the defence of Hmeymim air base in Syria, according to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who was speaking in Nizhny Tagil, Wednesday. The deployment of the missile system comes after Turkish F-16 jets shot down a Russian Su-24 plane, on Tuesday, after what is claimed to be a 17 second long violation of its airspace. SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defence Minister (Russian): "Colleagues, yesterday, during a combat mission to destroy the infrastructure of terrorist groups in Syria our comrades were killed. Please stand." SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defense Minister (Russian): "Yesterday, our Special Forces and the Special Forces of our colleagues from the Syrian army, within 12 hours [of the incident taking place], carried out the rescue operation to find the pilot of our Su-24. He was found and was taken to the base. He is alive and well. I would like to thank those, who at great risk, worked all night. At 03.40am the rescue operation was completed." SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defense Minister (Russian): "I reported about the successful completion of the rescue operation to the Supreme Commander of the Russian Federation armed forces [President Putin]. He asked me to thanks all of you who took part in the operation." SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defense Minister (Russian): "The General Staff have already implemented a number of measures; we've got a new area of combat duty for the Moskva missile cruiser. It is now located near the coastal Latakia Province and is ready to destroy any air target representing a potential threat to our aircraft. In addition, all airstrikes in the future will be carried out only under the cover of fighter planes." SOT, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defense Minister (Russian): "By the decision of the Supreme Commander: the anti-aircraft missile system S-400 will be delivered to the Hmeymim base for air defence in all areas of Syria. We are halting all contact with Turkey on military lines." Sea Monster in Alaska CAUGHT on Video by U S Government ?

07:53
From Nessie making an appearance in Alaska, to the Russian's finding something extremely unsettling, this is Crypto Fun Friday ! While most people have to go searching for the Loch Ness Monster, a vacationer was fortunate enough to be gazing at the Loch … when Nessie simply popped her head out of the water … at least that’s the story we heard. A 28-year-old woman was on the balcony of her holiday home at Loch Ness when she saw a mysterious ripple on the surface, followed by a ‘blue thing’ swimming across. She grabbed her phone and managed to snap a few pictures … but when she tried to zoom in, the object disappeared. The woman claimed it’s not often one sees a monster while on holiday … but did she really see one? Here’s another potential sea monster that was caught on video … this time in Russia. What appeared to be a huge, serpent-like object in remote Lake Turgoyak (tur-goy-ak) has people making the Nessie tie-ins. A kayaker said he spotted the mysterious object causing ripples on one area of the lake’s surface. The video footage shows large black rings that conceivably resemble the coils of a snake. While the kayaker claims the object appeared to be around 15 meters long and serpentine … he also conceded the ripples could have been caused by divers training. But as it turns out, no dive teams were swimming deep in that area of the lake on that day. Aside from the obvious comparison to Nessie, we couldn’t find that many theories about what this snakelike thing might have been … Care to give it a go? Some of the clearest pictures of the Loch Ness Monster appeared earlier in 2016 … if it really was the legendary Nessie. An amateur photographer named Ian Bremner snapped the pictures that show a dark creature with a long, serpentine body bobbing along the surface of Loch Ness. The animal is estimated at around 2 meters long appears to have a tail, and and has a silvery sheen on its skin. Many sceptics point out that the animal’s head could be a seal, and the picture merely shows three of them playing in the water. But Mr Bremner has his believers … and they say the images closely resemble the most sharply focused examples of Nessie yet found. Accounts of a sea monster have been documented since the 1800s in Barmouth, Wales when footprints as big as an elephant’s were found on the beach. Subsequent accounts described the creature’s appearance as similar to a crocodile’s. WItnesses who claimed to see the creature in broad daylight in 1975 described it as having a square face with a long neck and tail, and flippers. Earlier in 2016, the first-ever photograph of the legendary beast possibly surfaced. Have you ever heard of the Morag (mor-rag)? It’s a Scottish sea monster that makes its home in Loch Morar (mora) … about 70 miles from Loch Ness. Stories of the creature date back to 1887 … and this cryptid is something of a paradox. It’s been described as having a beautiful, mermaid-like visage … but it’s also described as a demonic character whose presence was considered to portend death. According to folklore, the Morag can appear like a black heap that slowly rises in the water and moves along like a waterlogged boat. But more recent accounts describe it as a humped, serpentine creature, more along the lines of Nessie. The best known sighting occurred in 1969, when two men accidentally struck the creature with their boat. Let’s head back to Russia for this one … At remote Lake Labynkyr (la-bink-er) in Siberia, a mysterious dark creature is said to inhabit the deep, icy waters. It’s called the 'Labynkyr (la-bink-er) Devil’ … and the lake it inhabits is so secluded that no one lives within a 100 mile radius. Except for an adventurer named Andrey Solovyez, who’s keeping a vigil there.. He’s braving temperatures of -50 degrees Celsius because he’s convinced he has proof of the creature’s existence -- his fishing nets were torn and shredded by something too powerful to be a fish. Reports of a Nessie-type creature have persisted in the region since the 19th century. And according to some scientists, sonar readings do indicate that at least one huge creature might lurk under the surface. Sightings analyzed by experts conclude the creature is up to 10 meters long, with a massive jaw that has a beaklike appearance and lots of teeth. Theories include the creature being a prehistoric marine reptile such as an ichthyosaurs (itch-thee-o-sore) or plesiosaur. Another possibility is the creature being a relic killer whale that was somehow marooned in the lake. For now, scientists still have no explanation for what the kind of animal it might be. Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak and Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak signed the agreement after the bilateral meeting of Russian and Turkish Presidents. Istanbul Street Food - DELICIOUS Turkish Kofte and Breakfast on Turkish Airlines!

25:50
►Check out my Istanbul travel food guide: https://goo.gl/WVJqhb ►Subscribe to my videos: http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe ►Camera I use: http://amzn.to/2dEL3hv (affiliate link) Day 8: Istanbul, Turkey - On Day 8, we flew on Turkish Airlines and from Muscat to Istanbul. The flight on Turkish Airlines was fantastic, and I had my first ever Turkish breakfast while in the sky. We then checked into The Ritz-Carlton hotel, and had some amazing Istanbul street food kofte for lunch. Istanbul is a city that I’ve always wanted to visit, and I can’t wait to explore and eat more Turkish food! 0:15 Turkish Breakfast on Turkish Airlines - To begin this day and video my wife and I were on a flight with Turkish Airlines (member of Star Alliance) from Muscat, Oman to Istanbul, Turkey. Turkish Airlines is an amazing airlines, and on business class they served us Turkish breakfast since we happen to fly into Istanbul early in the morning. Bread, olives, cheese, honey, and then the main dish included eggs and vegetables. Great flight with Turkish Airlines! 2:42 Istanbul Atatürk Airport - We arrived to Istanbul very early in the morning and after grabbing our bag, we found the bus outside the terminal to go to Taksim Square. The bus cost 11 TL ($3.73) per person. 4:57 The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul - Marriott Hotels sponsored my stay in Istanbul, and it was an honor to have the opportunity to stay at the The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul, which is located just a 5 minute walk from Taksim Square, with a fantastic view of the Bosphorus. We got all checked in, and the room was fantastic. 7:44 Istanbul Street Food - Kofte Sandwich Stall - After taking a little rest in the hotel and drinking some coffee, Ying and I were both pretty hungry. There’s a small Istanbul street food stall that serves amazing grilled kofte, just down the street from The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul, and that’s exactly where we headed, right at lunch time. Before ever arriving I could smell the aroma of the meat on the grill and then I could see the colorful display of peppers and parsley surrounding the grill as well. I ordered a kofte sandwich, and after toasting the bread, he added in a bunch of little meat kofte patties, some tomatoes and onions and peppers, seasoned with some spices and chili powder and handed it to me. For 10 TL ($3.40) for sandwich and drink, this was about as good as it could possibly get for Istanbul street food! Wow it was so good. 12:17 Taksim Square and Turkish Coffee at Mandabatmaz (Istiklal Street) - After that amazing kofte sandwich, we continued walking through Taksim Square, one of the most famous landmarks of Istanbul and then on to the walking Istiklal street. The highlight for me was stopping at Mandabatmaz for a cup of the most amazing Turkish coffee I’ve ever had. Turkish coffee - 5 TL ($1.70). 17:04 Fish and Meat House - At this point Ying and I were starting to get really sleepy - we hadn’t really slept the night before. So we stopped for an early dinner at Fish and Meat House to have some grilled fish. I had the grilled sea bream, which was simple and plain but excellently fresh and cooked perfectly. The salad was also delicious. Total price for everything - 74 TL ($25.12). Disclaimer and Thank You: This trip was made possible by Star Alliance and their Round The World tickets (http://www.staralliance.com/en/round-the-world) who sponsored my business class flights. The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul sponsored my stay in Istanbul. Thank you to Star Alliance, Marriott Hotels, and Turkish Airlines for making this trip happen. I personally paid for all food and attractions in this video. Istanbul by Land & Sea

01:21
http://www.ncl.com/excursions/search?Ntt=IST10 Experience Istanbul by land and sea. Begin with a cruise on the Bosphorus Strait on a local boat; you'll delight in a mixture of past and present sights including unforgettable castles, towering minarets, and world-famous modern luxury hotels. Following the boat trip, continue to the Old City by bus to visit the Blue Mosque, at one end of Sultanahmet Square, designed by architect Mehmet Aga to rival Hagia Sofia at the opposite end of the square. This is one of the most famous religious buildings in the world. Its interior walls are adorned with beautiful blue green tiles, which give the mosque its most popular name. On one side of the square is the Hippodrome. Not much is left of it, just the Egyptian Obelisk, Serpentine and Constantine Columns. Continue your walk through this bustling square to reach the majestic Hagia Sophia, now a museum and the most important Byzantine monument in the world. The intricate mosaics that adorn its ceilings and walls are of immeasurable artistic and historic value. Next stop is the Grand Bazaar, composed of a covered traditional part and a modern open section. The covered section is a labyrinth of streets with more than 4,000 shops that sell anything you can imagine; from the most expensive art work, to the cheapest trinket, the grand Bazaar has it all. You'll be fascinated by the exotic atmosphere. At the open modern section, you'll find the best shops and most reliable shopping. It is here that you'll participate in a presentation on the art of Turkish carpets while enjoying complimentary refreshments. You'll have time to shop or browse at the handicraft store. A stop for lunch is scheduled during the tour to enjoy a Turkish style meal. Note: Only available for Norwegian Spirit sailings out of Venice, and on day two for Norwegian Jade winter sailings. Expect differences in tour duration due to traffic conditions. Participants are required to remove their shoes in order to enter the mosque and are provided with an environmentally friendly bag to store them. As this tour visits a place of worship, please dress respectfully: no bare shoulders or exposed knees. Should the Blue Mosque be closed to visitors due to religious festivities, you'll visit another historical mosque. On Sundays, the Grand Bazaar closes and only the shops of the outer bazaar remain open, therefore the visit to the Grand Bazaar may be replaced with the Spice Bazaar. The 'Gallery' section of St. Sophia is not included. There is approximately 1 mile of walking over uneven surfaces and some inclines and steps on this tour. Your Turkish lunch includes water; additional drinks are available at an extra charge.

Plane In Turkey Skids Meters Away From Black Sea

00:34
A Pegasus Airlines flight skidded off the runway of a Turkish coastal airport, down a steep slope on the edge of the Black Sea, ending up just a few meters from the water’s edge. None of the 168 people on board was hurt in the incident. The flight from Ankara was making its landing at the Black Sea city of Trabzon when the incident occurred. One passenger said, “There was a huge panic, people were shouting.” Video on social media showed fire crews pumping water over the plane. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/-WuOTCI4iko/plane-skids-off-turkish-runway-and-plunges-towards-sea-idUSKBN1F30C1 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Most INSANE Doner Kebab in Istanbul! (and Turkish Airlines from Istanbul to Rome)!

20:44
►Subscribe to my channel for more food videos: http://bit.ly/MarkWiensSubscribe ►Check out my Istanbul travel guide: https://goo.gl/gRsk6W Day 13: Istanbul to Rome on Turkish Airlines - On Day 13 of our Round The World Trip with Star Alliance, I first had the most insanely amazing doner kebab I’ve ever had, and then we went to the airport, enjoyed the Istanbul Turkish Airlines lounge, before flying with Turkish Airlines from Istanbul to Rome. 00:53 Tarihi Karadeniz Döner - My friend Tuba from http://istanbulfood.com/ says this place serves the best doner kebab in Istanbul, and she’s no joking around. The first thing you notice when you arrive to Tarihi Karadeniz Döner is the biggest round of doner that you’ll likely ever see in your life - it’s absolutely incredibly beautiful. Many people order their doner kebab for takeaway, but they have some seating upstairs where you can grab a seat and enjoy your doner kebab immediately after its shaved off. I ordered a plate of doner kebab meat, which was absolutely awesome. The meat was shaved perfectly, so it was slightly crispy, yet juicy and flavorful all the way through. Then I also ordered the iskender kebab (İskender kebap), another Turkish food I had been longing to eat. The doner kebab meat is sliced off, then combined with tomato sauce, sheep butter, and yogurt. Finally, to wash down the doner, I also had a cup of ayran. Total price - 46 TL ($15.45) 7:19 Taxi to Istanbul Atatürk Airport - After the amazing doner kebab at Tarihi Karadeniz Döner, we then checked out of our hotel and jumped in a taxi to the airport. Price - 57 TL ($19.14) 8:13 Turkish Airlines Lounge - I haven’t been to too many lounges, but the Turkish Airlines lounge in Istanbul is one of the most amazing airline lounges in the world. There was so much good food and so many drinks and beverage options. I was honestly pretty full after devouring all that doner kebab, but I did have a chance to try Turkish manti and then I went in for some salad. 12:05 Turkish Airlines Flight from Istanbul to Rome - We then caught our flight on Turkish Airlines from Istanbul to Rome. Turkish Airlines is an amazing airline with great service, and I love how there’s a chef on board. For lunch I had the kebab and it was pretty good. 16:45 Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport - The flight from Istanbul to Rome didn’t take too long, and we arrive to Rome! 17:16 Bus to Termini Station - 5.90 EUR ($6.59) per person - To get from the airport to the center of Rome we took the bus, which dropped us off at Termini station. From Termini Station we took the Metro to Spagna station. 18:13 Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora - During out time in Rome, we stayed at Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora, located in a great location. Turkey, Istanbul and Marmara - Jetlinecruise.com

08:50
Take a cruise with Jetline Cruise and visit Istanbul http://www.jetlinecruise.com/ Istanbul is truly a world city, a city which everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. It is an enchanting blend of Eastern and Western culture, a vibrant, modern city, with a unique identity. Its rich past coexists alongside its youthful exuberance. Although no longer the capital of Turkey, Istanbul still remains the country's cultural and business centre. It is a city of contrasts, bustling with the cacophony of 21st century life, and is yet achingly beautiful. It is set in a stunning location, surrounded by water, which is the narrow strait of the Bosphorus and the serene sea of Marmara separating Europe from Asia. Istanbul has a foot in each, celebrating the best of both heritages. As Byzantium, Constantinople and finally, Istanbul, it has been the capital of three Empires, each leaving their mark in the form of stunning palaces, castles, mosques, churches and monuments. The legacy of its chequered past can be seen on every turn of the modern city. The Bosphorus Some of Istanbul's finest vistas are to be seen from the Bosphorus. If you have time it is well worth spending at least half a day viewing the sights and savouring the atmosphere. You can take a guided tour on a small boat, or Turkish Maritime Lines (TDI) runs a good value public ferry service which leaves two or three times a day and does the full round trip as far as Anadolu Kavağı, the nearest village to the Black Sea on the Asian side, and back to Eminönü. It is a charming place, known for its fish restaurants, and the walk up to the ruined fortress overlooking the village, is well worth it for the stunning views. As you leave from Eminönü you can benefit from some beautiful views back towards the old town with its evocative skyline of turreted roofs and minarets. As you head towards the Black Sea you will pass the Dolmabahçe Palace, Beylerbeyi Palace and the 15th century fortresses built by Mehmet II, Rumeli Hisarı and Anadolu Hisarı. Also look out for the stunning wooden Ottoman mansions, many of which have been renovated and form some of the city's most desirable residences. Even if you don't have time for a Bosphorus trip just take one of the distinctive city ferries for a quick trip from Eminönü to the Asian shores and back - to Üsküdar for example, just to admire the views of the old town. The Princes Islands Those who are staying for a little longer in Istanbul, should really set aside a day to visit these charming islands in the sea of Marmara, just off the coast of Istanbul. The picturesque scenery of wooded hills, charming beaches and authentic Ottoman mansions, combined with the tranquil atmosphere, make for a pleasant contrast to the city itself. Easily reached by ferry or hydrofoil, the ambience of the islands seems worlds away. Büyük Ada, or "Big Island" is the most popular with visitors. No cars are allowed but you can take a trip in a horse and carriage to visit the Monastery of St. George. Hijacked Plane Disaster - Water Crash Landing

07:44
Subscribe to Naked Science - http://goo.gl/wpc2Q1 Every other Wednesday we present a new video, so join us to see the truth laid bare... Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 In 1996, the hijacking of an Ethiopian Airline 767 became the worst in history when it crashed into the sea off the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean. The pilot, Captain Leul Abate, was no stranger to hijacks, this was the third time an aircraft under his command had been threatened. The Boeing 767-200ER was hijacked on 23rd November 1996 en route from Addis Ababa to Nairobi on a Bombay–Addis Ababa–Nairobi–Brazzaville–Lagos–Abidjan service, by three Ethiopians seeking asylum in Australia. The plane crash-landed in the Indian Ocean near Grande Comore, Comoros Islands, due to fuel exhaustion; 125 of the 175 passengers and crew on board died, along with the hijackers; the rest of the people on board survived with injuries. At the time this incident took place, it was the deadliest hijacking involving a single aircraft. It fell to second place with the 11th September 2001 attacks. The incident is one of the only documented water landing attempts of a wide-body airliner with survivors. Clip from the documentary “Extreme Machines - Fear of Flying : Crash Landing”. HOW PUTIN’S RUSSIA HAS SIDELINED U.S & NATO IN SYRIA WITH MILITARY MIGHT ?

08:57
INTRODUCTION Their army’s equipment and strategy was “outmoded”; their air force’s bombs and missiles were “more dumb than smart”; their navy was “more rust than ready”. For decades, this was Western military leaders’ view, of their Russian counterparts. What they have seen in Syria and Ukraine has come as a shock. Russian military jets have, at times, have carried out more sorties in a day in Syria than the US-led coalition has done in a month. The Russian navy has launched ballistic missiles from the Caspian Sea 900 miles way, and kept supply lines going to Syria. The air defenses installed by the Russians in Syria and eastern Ukraine would make it extremely hazardous for the West to carry out strikes against the Assad regime or Ukrainian separatists. In this video, Defense Updates looks at HOW PUTIN’S RUSSIA HAS SIDELINED US & NATO IN SYRIA WITH MILITARY MIGHT ? INCEPTION The unrest in Syria, part of a wider wave of 2011 Arab Spring protests, grew out of discontent with the Assad government and escalated to an armed conflict after protests calling for his removal were violently suppressed. Syrian opposition groups formed the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and seized control of the area surrounding Aleppo and parts of southern Syria. Over time, some factions of the Syrian opposition split from their original moderate position to pursue an Islamist vision for Syria, joining groups such as al-Nusra Front and ISIL. Iran, Russia and Hezbollah support the Syrian government militarily, while beginning in 2014, a coalition of NATO countries began launching airstrikes against ISIL. International organizations have accused the Syrian government, ISIL and rebel groups of severe human rights violations and of many massacres. U.S leaders have called for removal of Assad. Hillary Clinton as US Secretary of State in 2011:”The world will not waver, Assad must go”. Obama as US President in 2015: “Assad must go”. Trump as US President : “Assad won’t get away with 'horrible' crimes" RUSSIAN INTERVENTION & GOALS The Russian military intervention in the Syrian Civil War began in September 2015, after an official request by the Syrian Government for military help against rebel and jihadist groups. The intervention initially consisted of air strikes fired by Russian aircraft stationed in the Khmeimim base at targets primarily in north-western Syria, against militant groups opposed to the Syrian government, including Syrian National Coalition, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda in the Levant). BOMBING RAIDS FROM AIR & SEA Russian forces in Syria were reported to have used a mix of precision-guided munitions and unguided weapons. The October 2015 airstrikes were Russia's first operational use of precision-guided munitions, whose development in Russia lagged behind other nations due to economic instability in the 1990s. The majority of weapons employed, however, were unguided. S 400 AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM The deployment of S 400 come after Turkish fighter jets shot a Russian Su-24M bomber out of the sky. It was seen as a backstabbing by Russia. President Vladimir Putin warned of “serious consequences" over the downed Sukhoi Su-24, which Turkey claims ignored 10 warnings to keep out of its airspace at the Syrian border. S 400 is considered to be most powerful air defense system in the world. Each S-400 battalion is equipped with 8 launchers, a control center and radar. Each of these 8 launchers is equipped with 32 missiles, so a single S400 has 256 missiles onboard. The S-400 uses 4 different missiles along with a multilayered radar-tracking umbrella to cover its entire performance envelope. RUSSIA’S SPECIAL FORCES SPETSNAZ Since their arrival in September, the Russians have used naval infantry to secure a key port in Tartus and the perimeter of an airfield in Latakia. Russian troops had long helped advise and train Syrian forces. But Russian special forces operating on the front — aside from a small number of artillery and tank units — have remained mostly out of the public eye. CONCLUSION Exactly one year ago, Syrian President Bashar al Assad, with Russia’s help, was laying waste to the last rebel-held neighborhoods of Aleppo. The task is almost complete, with Assad firmly in control and U.S & NATO influence marginalized. In his comments to the press recently, Mr Putin said Russian efforts would soon switch from the battlefield to reconstruction. He added, “Military co-operation had saved Syria from collapse and long-term normalization was now possible.” As Mr Putin meet with Mr Assad and his Iranian and Turkish counterparts to discuss a framework for “post-conflict” Syria, his role as the Middle East’s most important foreign deal-breaker is secured. NATO Secretary General visits NATO flagship in Aegean Sea

01:34
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited FGS BONN, the German flagship of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2), on Thursday (21 April) as the ship continues to conduct reconnaissance, monitoring and surveillance of illegal crossings in the Aegean Sea. The Secretary General thanked the crew for their important work and stressed that NATO’s deployment in the Aegean is making a difference in the international efforts to deal with the greatest refugee and migrant crisis facing Europe since World War Two. Mr. Stoltenberg underscored that NATO ships were deployed to the Aegean within hours, following a joint request by Greece, Turkey and Germany. He noted that they are providing critical information on a daily basis to help Turkey, Greece and the EU’s border agency, Frontex, in cutting the lines of human trafficking and illegal migration in the Aegean. The Secretary General outlined areas where NATO has made important progress since its Aegean deployment began in February. He highlighted that the information collected by NATO ships have enabled Greece, Turkey and Frontex to take more effective action to break the business model of human traffickers. He added that NATO is providing an additional platform for cooperation between Greece, Turkey and the European Union to deal with the refugee and migrant crisis. During the visit, the Secretary General also met with Rear Admiral Jörg Klein, Commander, SNMG2 to discuss BONN’s current activities. He spoke with SNMG2 staff and Greek and Turkish liaison officers on board the BONN. He also observed the maneuvers of three frigates, TCG GOKOVA, HS SPETSAI and HNLMS VAN AMSTEL, currently operating in the same area as BONN.

NAZCA LINES In 1930, a perplexing series of geoglyphs etched into the sand was discovered off the coast of Peru, in the desert plains of the Rio Grande de Nasca river basin - one of the driest places on Earth. Known as the Nazca Lines, they date back to 200 B.C. and occupy a land area of roughly 170 square miles. 5. THE SACSAYHUAMAN WALLS Near the modern-day Peruvian city of Cuzco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire, a series of walls has puzzled scientists and sparked debate ever since their discovery. The walls are located among the ruins of an ancient citadel known as Sacsayhuaman- easy to remember right??- which sits at over 12,000 feet above sea level. 4. THE PIRI REIS MAP A map discovered in Istanbul in 1929 by German theologian Gustav Deissmann proved to be anything but ordinary upon further examination. The map, which had been written on gazelle skin parchment, was traced back to Piri Reis, a well-documented cartographer and admiral of the Ottoman-Turkish navy. The map was drawn by Reis in 1513 and features Europe, North Africa, South America, and several islands, including the Azores and the Canary Islands. 3. BOLSHOI ZAYATSKY LABYRINTHS Some of history’s most confounding artifacts were discovered in northern Russia’s Solovetsky archipelago, on an island called Bolshoi Zayatsky. As far back as 3,000 B.C., residents built villages and sacred sites on the island, including an irrigation system. Along with several of its surrounding islands, Bolshoi Zayatsky was covered in large piles of boulders, which contained bones, places of worship, and petroglyphs. 2. THE BAGHDAD BATTERY The Baghdad Battery, also known as the Parthian Battery, is a device consisting of three artifacts that were found together in modern-day Iraq. Its components consist of a 5-and-a-half inch tall terracotta pot, a tube of copper, and an iron rod. 1. NAN MADOL Adjacent to the eastern shore of Pohnpei, an island within the Federated States of Micronesia located in the western Pacific Ocean, lies the archaeological site of an ancient city called Nan Madol. The site consists of around 100 man-made islands, made of huge basalt rock, and a series of canals.

Swissair Flight 111 - 229 dead:On 2 September 1998 Swissair flight 111 from New York to Geneva crashed into the ocean just off of Nova Scotia due to a rapidly spreading cockpit fire. 9/11 flights:Although not a single air disaster, the four flights involved in 9/11 were responsible for the greatest single day loss of life in commercial aviation history. Two of the flights, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 each were responsible for thousands of casualties after being driven into the World Trade Centers and are considered the largest and second largest losses of life due to individual plane crashes in all of aviation history with 1700 and 1000 people killed respectively. Tenerife Airport Disaster - 583 dead: In terms of passengers and crew killed this collision between two Boeing 747s on the Spanish Island of Tenerife is considered the deadliest plane crash in history. An investigation found that once again a lack of English language skills on behalf of the Kazakh pilots was the primary cause. Ermenonville air disaster - 346 dead:After a Moroccan baggage handler was unable to read the proper latching instructions in either English or Turkish on Turkish airlines flight 981, the latch blew off mid flight as the plane crashed into Ermonville forest near Paris, France. Furthermore, the latches had a known design flaw. Air India Flight 182 - 329 dead:On the 23 of June, 1985 a bomb exploded onboard Air India Flight 182 as it was flying between London and Montreal. Saudia Flight 163 - 301 dead:This flight from Rihadh to Jeddah caught fire shortly after takeoff. It turned around and made an emergency landing but everyone on board died of smoke inhalation before fire crews could get inside. The fire was started due to butane stoves used by Muslim pilgrims because of their strict dietary restrictions. Saudi Arabia has since banned the stoves but some people still smuggle them onboard to make tea. Iran Air Flight 655 - 290 dead: During the Iraq-Iran war on July 3, 1988 the USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air Flight 665 going between Tehran and Dubai due to confused communications. American Airlines Flight 191 - 273 dead:Just moments after takeoff the left engine of Flight 191 from Chicago to Los Angeles came off. The plane rolled, turned upside down and crashed into a field. A firefighter on the scene was quoted as saying that not a single complete body was found. Amateur photos of the crash sparked a media firestorm condemning the DC-10’s poor safety record.
