The Grand Opening event and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Wine Spectator Learning Center took place on Tuesday, May 29, at Sonoma State University. The event, which drew over 600 people, celebrated the new headquarters of the Wine Business Institute (WBI), a unique public-private partnership between the School of Business and Economics at SSU and the global wine industry. The year-long construction and expansion project transformed the existing University Commons building into a state-of-the-art learning center that includes three advanced-technology classrooms, student commons, café and garden areas, and collaborative spaces for faculty and business leaders. A generous combination of private and naming gifts totaling $11 million were secured for the project. The event began with a reception on the main quad in front of the new building, featuring wine from WBI program alumni and board members. Welcome remarks were given by SSU President, Judy Sakaki, and Marvin Shanken, chairman of M. Shanken Communications, Inc. and publisher of Wine Spectator magazine. Additional remarks were provided by U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson of California's Fifth District and founder of the Congressional Wine Caucus. Event activities included participation by members of the WBI board, alumni, and faculty. Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the doors opened for self-guided tours of the new facility.

This is the story of how I fell in love with wine, and how the concept of Wine Living came to be. I believe that every day can be a meditation on the art of savoring, and I want to share that passion with you. This was my submission for Wine Spectator Magazine's 2013 Video Competition. I made it to the Finals and ultimately won Second Place. Thanks to Brian Isserman of Primer (www.primerinc.com) for Photographic Direction and Camera work. Travel the world with me to learn all about wine and spirits in a non-judgmental, hands-on, passionate and fun way. The idea is to teach you to discover what you like about wine to give you the tools and vocabulary to savor, appreciate and get more out of your glass every time you take a sip.
