Yum! Brands (formerly Tricon Global Restaurants) is an American fast food company. Yum operates the licensed brands Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, and WingStreet worldwide. KFC was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders, an entrepreneur who began selling fried chicken from his roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky during the Great Depression. Sanders identified the potential of the restaurant franchising concept, and the first "Kentucky Fried Chicken" franchise opened in Utah in 1952. Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell, who first opened a hot dog stand called Bell's Drive-In in San Bernardino, California in 1946. Pizza Hut was founded in June 1958 by two Wichita State University students, brothers Dan and Frank Carney, as a single location in Wichita, Kansas. PepsiCo acquired Pizza Hut in 1977.

Keep an eye on shares of Yum! Brands (YUM) in Thursday's trading session. The parent company of Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut, posted mixed fourth quarter earnings. The company posted a profit of 61 cents a share, which missed analysts' estimates. However, revenue for the period was stronger than analysts expected. The fast food chain also said same store sales in China, fell more than it did a year ago. Despite the issues in China, Yum maintained its full-year guidance for 2015. Activist-Pressured Yum! Brands Will Split China Business Into a New Company

01:09
Yum! Brands Inc. (YUM) plans to split its Chinese operations off into a new publicly traded company, Yum! China. The company, which runs fast food chains Pizza Hut, KFC, and Taco Bell, has faced pressure from investors, particularly Keith Meister of Corvex Capital. Meister has a 5% activist stake in the company and joined Yum Brands’ board on Oct. 15. Separating the China operations from the rest of Yum! Brands has been one of his goals for the company. 'Following the separation, each standalone company will be able to intensify focus on its distinct commercial priorities, allocate its own resources to meet the needs of its business, and pursue distinct capital structures and capital allocation strategies. This will provide a clear investment thesis and visibility to attract a long-term investor base suited to each business,' Yum! Brands CEO Greg Creed said in a statement Tuesday. McDonald's is an American hamburger and fast food restaurant chain. It was founded in 1940 as a barbecue restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald, in San Bernardino, California. In 1948, they reorganized their business as a hamburger stand, using production line principles. The first McDonald's franchise using the arches logo opened in Phoenix, Arizona in 1953. Businessman Ray Kroc joined the company as a franchise agent in 1955 and subsequently purchased the chain from the McDonald brothers. Today, McDonald's is the world's largest restaurant chain, serving approximately 68 million customers daily in 120 countries across approximately 36,900 outlets. McDonald's primarily sells hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken products, french fries, breakfast items, soft drinks, milkshakes, wraps, and desserts. In response to changing consumer tastes, the company has expanded its menu to include salads, fish, wraps, smoothies, and fruit. A McDonald's restaurant is operated by either a franchisee, an affiliate, or the corporation itself. The McDonald's Corporation revenues come from the rent, royalties, and fees paid by the franchisees, as well as sales in company-operated restaurants.

Number Of Restaurants Could More than Triple

01:09
Yum Brands has big plans to grow the China unit it's spinning off. The US fast-food giant has 7,300 restaurants right now. But that number could roughly triple to north of 20,000 based on long term ambitions. This is what Yum! Brands executives shared at the company's investor day. The chain known for its KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands plans to spin off the China business October 31st. When its spinoff is completed Yum! China will hold exclusive rights to use the aforementioned brand names with China paying a three percent licensing fee for related sales. And it will have the opportunity to add or launch new brands. Yum! Brands Shares Tank After Downgrade - Dec 12, 2014

00:53
Yum Brands, owner of the KFC and Taco Bell fast-food chains, fell the most in almost five months after cutting its profit forecast for 2014, hurt by a health scare in China. Earnings per share will rise by a mid-single-digit percentage, excluding some items, according to a statement from the company this week. That’s down from a 20 percent growth forecast that was issued in July. Yum said same-store sales in China would be negative for the year amid fallout from safety issues with a meat supplier. Yum, which was still recovering from a supply-chain investigation in China that started in 2012, was hit by another food scare in the country in July when vendor OSI Group was probed by the government for altering expiration dates on meat. The restaurant chain terminated its relationship with OSI globally after the investigation. The company said it expects earnings per share growth in 2015 of at least 10 percent, where analysts on average had projected an increase of 17 percent.

The company reported adjusted earnings per share of 87c on revenue of $3.35 billion dollars. Investors had anticipated earnings per share of 89c on revenue of $3.4 billion. Sales at restaurants open more than a year in China fell 14% during the August quarter, following a July report that uncovered improper food handling by one of its former suppliers. Yum! Brands to put Long John Silver's, A&W All-American up for sale

Yum! Brands announced its plans to place its Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food Restaurants for sale, and has begun a process to identify a buyer. The company is sharpening its long-term growth focus on building leading brands in every significant category in China, driving aggressive international expansion, and improving its U.S. brand positions by building new dayparts and sales layers at Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC. David C. Novak, Yum! Brands Chairman and CEO said, "We do not believe Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food restaurants fit into our long-term growth strategy. Accordingly, we have decided to put these two great brands up for sale and we will complete the sale only once the right buyer or buyers have been identified and we can ensure a seamless transition."” The company does not expect the eventual sale to have a material impact to its ongoing earnings or cash flow.

KFC Parent's New Concept Restaurant Targets Chick-fil-A

01:08
YUM, the company behind Kentucky Fried Chicken, is getting ready to launch a new chicken restaurant concept, but they've been pretty tight lipped on the details. yum like the word yum YUM! Brands, the parent company of KFC, is getting ready to launch a new chicken restaurant concept, but they've been pretty tight lipped on the details. What is known is that the new place is called Super Chix and Arlington, Texas has been picked as the single test location. Given what's been announced about the menu and concept, industry leaders are guessing it's Yum! Brands attempt to gain an edge over the increasingly popular chain, Chick-fil-A. Recently, the Atlanta based restaurant chain pulled ahead of KFC to claim the top chicken sales spot in the US. This latest concept may be YUM!'s attempt to test a smaller and premium menu concept. Part of the plan seems to be distancing themselves from the endeavor as neither they nor KFC are mentioned in the marketing. Instead, they've made the main characters of the Super Chix story the "three food-obsessed friends who believed chicken could and should be better." They're promoting their product as made to order, hand-breaded, and free of hard to pronounce ingredients. Said an industry analyst of the strategy, it allows the restaurant to "start free and clear of all perceptions of all existing brands."

Taco Bell Jumps On 'Natural' Ingredients Bandwagon

01:31
Taco Bell says it plans to remove all "artificial flavors and colors, replacing them with natural alternatives" by the end of the year. Follow Jamal Andress: http://www.twitter.com/JamalAndress See more at http://www.newsy.com Transcript: Kraft, McDonald's, Nestle and Panera Bread have all taken the step that Taco Bell announced it would be taking today: removing certain ingredients from its menu — which some believe are unhealthy — to appeal to more customers. More specifically, Taco Bell plans to remove all "artificial flavors and colors, replacing them with natural alternatives" by the end of the year. And by the end of 2017, Taco Bell says it will "remove additional artificial preservatives and additives where possible." According to Taco Bell, this change in its menu will affect 95 percent of the company's food items, but it will not apply to beverages or co-branded items. In other words, your Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco will be fine. Taco Bell says it will make all of these changes without changing its price point. CEO Brian Niccol told Bloomberg: "People just assume that in order to do this, things have to become more expensive. That's a myth." "Same breakfast, same routine." All of this comes after Taco Bell's renewed effort to fight McDonald's for the fast food breakfast market with a major ad campaign and new menu items. It's too early to say if the purge of artificial ingredients will do anything for Taco Bell, but the famous fast food chain and its parent company, Yum Brands, has had a great year on the back of its new breakfast. Yum Brands stock price has risen more than 15 percent since last year, and during the second quarter, Taco Bell had record-breaking sales numbers due in large part to an increase in breakfast sales. This change in menu also applies to Yum Brands company Pizza Hut, but there's no word on whether KFC will join the all-natural party. Why McDonald’s Flopped In Vietnam

06:26
The fast food industry thrives in most of the world. Chains like McDonald's and Burger King typically come out on top in the $651 billion fast food industry. In Vietnam, however, the brands have failed to take off. McDonald's and Burger King have more than 36,000 and 16,000 locations across the globe, respectively. But in Vietnam, McDonald's has 17 stores and Burger King has 13. Pizza Hut Training Video 1988 THIS IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY COMMENT SECTION. ***To those who choose to re-upload any portion of this video while under a Standard Youtube License, who then choose to sexually degrade the actors, demean their performance, and by altering the audio or video content, in turn diminishes my company, my brand and my client's brand. This is a portion of my original content from 1987-88 with Pizza Hut/PepsiCo., and is part of my personal/client library of camera work...with ownership in perpetuity. I was the single camera operator for this instructional video series from 1987-88, that was produced in a Chicagoland area, industrial test kitchen for Pizza Hut/PepsiCo.. Original recording on 3/4 inch U-Matic videotape. This video welcomes all family friendly comments. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza Hut is an American restaurant chain and international franchise founded in 1958 by Dan and Frank Carney. The company is known for its Italian-American cuisine menu including pizza and pasta, as well as side dishes and desserts. Pizza Hut has 16,796 restaurants worldwide as of March 2018, making it the world's largest pizza chain in terms of locations. It is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., one of the world's largest restaurant companies. Pizza Hut was founded in June 1958 by two Wichita State University students, brothers Dan and Frank Carney, as a single location in Wichita, Kansas, Six months later they opened a second outlet and within a year there were six Pizza Hut restaurants. The brothers began franchising in 1959. The iconic Pizza Hut building style was designed in 1963. PepsiCo acquired Pizza Hut in November 1977. The company announced a rebrand that began on November 19, 2014. The rebrand was an effort to increase sales, which dropped in the previous two years. The menu was expanded to introduce various items such as crust flavors and eleven new specialty pizzas. Work uniforms for employees were also refreshed. In 2017, Pizza Hut was listed by UK-based company Richtopia at number 24 in the list of 200 Most Influential Brands in the World Pizza Hut is split into several different restaurant formats: the original family-style dine-in locations; storefront delivery and carry-out locations; and hybrid locations that have carry-out, delivery, and dine-in options. Some full-size Pizza Hut locations have a lunch buffet, with "all-you-can-eat" pizza, salad, desserts, bread sticks, and a pasta bar. Pizza Hut has other business concepts independent of the store type; Pizza Hut "Bistro" locations are "Red Roofs" which have an expanded menu and slightly more upscale options. An upscale concept was unveiled in 2004, called "Pizza Hut Italian Bistro". At 50 U.S. locations, the Bistro is similar to a traditional Pizza Hut, except the menu features new, Italian-themed dishes such as penne pasta, chicken pomodoro, and toasted sandwiches. Instead of black, white, and red, Bistro locations feature a burgundy and tan motif. Pizza Hut Bistros still serve the chain's traditional pizzas and sides. In some cases, Pizza Hut has replaced a "Red Roof" location with the new concept. "Pizza Hut Express" and "The Hut" locations are fast food restaurants. They offer a limited menu with many products not seen at a traditional Pizza Hut. These types of stores are often paired in a colocated location with WingStreet, in USA and Canada, or other sibling brands such as KFC or Taco Bell, and found on college campuses, food courts, theme parks, bowling alleys, and within stores such as Target. Vintage "Red Roof" locations, designed by architect Richard D. Burke, can be found in the United States and Canada; several exist in the UK, Australia, and Mexico. In his book Orange Roofs, Golden Arches, Phillip Langdon wrote that the Pizza Hut "Red Roof" architecture "is something of a strange object – considered outside the realm of significant architecture, yet swiftly reflecting shifts in popular taste and unquestionably making an impact on daily life. These buildings rarely show up in architectural journals, yet they have become some of the most numerous and conspicuous in the United States today." Curbed.com reports, "Despite Pizza Hut's decision to discontinue the form when they made the shift toward delivery, there were still 6,304 'traditional units' standing as of 2004, each with the shingled roofs and trapezoidal windows signifying equal parts suburban comfort and strip-mall anomie." This building style was common in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The name "Red Roof" is somewhat anachronistic now, since many locations have brown roofs. Dozens of "Red Roofs" have closed or been relocated or rebuilt. Many "Red Roof" branches have beer if not a full bar, music from a jukebox, and sometimes an arcade. In the mid-1980s, the company moved into other successful formats including delivery or carryout and the fast food "Express" model. #PizzaHut #GNAVTV

KFC (the name was originally an initialism for Kentucky Fried Chicken) is a fast food restaurant chain that specializes in fried chicken and is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, United States (US). It is the world's second largest restaurant chain overall (as measured by sales) after McDonald's, with over 18,000 outlets in 120 countries and territories as of December 2012. The company is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, a restaurant company that also owns the Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurant chains. KFC was founded by Harland Sanders, an entrepreneur who began selling fried chicken from his roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky, during the Great Depression. Sanders identified the potential of the restaurant franchising concept, and the first "Kentucky Fried Chicken" franchise opened in Utah in 1952. KFC popularized chicken in the fast food industry, diversifying the market by challenging the established dominance of the hamburger. By branding himself as "Colonel Sanders," Harland became a prominent figure of American cultural history, and his image remains widely used in KFC advertising. However, the company's rapid expansion saw it overwhelm the ageing Sanders, and in 1964 he sold the company to a group of investors led by John Y. Brown, Jr. and Jack C. Massey. KFC was one of the first fast food chains to expand internationally, opening outlets in England, Mexico and Jamaica by the mid-1960s. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, KFC experienced mixed fortunes domestically, as it went through a series of changes in corporate ownership with little or no experience in the restaurant business. In the early 1970s, KFC was sold to the spirits distributor Heublein, who were taken over by the R.J. Reynolds food and tobacco conglomerate, who sold the chain to PepsiCo. The chain continued to expand overseas however, and in 1987 KFC became the first Western restaurant chain to open in China. The chain has since expanded rapidly in China, which is now the company's most profitable market. PepsiCo spun off its restaurants division as Tricon Global Restaurants, which later changed its name to Yum! Brands. KFC's original product is pressure fried chicken pieces, seasoned with Sanders' recipe of 11 herbs and spices.

Yum Brands Still Suffering From Supplier Scandal - Mar 10, 2015

00:55
Yum Brands reported quarterly earnings that missed estimates and revenue that came in slightly above. Its crucial China unit saw a less steep than expected drop in same-store sales as the chain continues to battle the impact of a supplier scandal. Same-store sales in China were forecast to tumble 19.4 percent, but instead, only fell 16 percent. Since July, the fast-food giant has seen continued fallout from a scandal that hit one of its food suppliers in Asia, with McDonald's also noting it had been impacted by the scandal. The company posted fourth-quarter earnings of 61 cents per share, down from 86 cents a share in the year-earlier period, while revenue decreased to 4 billion dollars from 4.18 billion a year ago. Yum Brands was expected to deliver earnings of 66 cents per share on $3.97 billion in revenue. Same-store sales at the chain's KFC and Taco Bell division both beat expectations.
