Scientists discover 91 volcanoes below Antarctic ice sheet ...that is just Antarctic.....wonder ?????? if that may be a problem...look under the surface of all the oceans and .....why would the ocean be warming and melting ice sheets pray tell...acification of oceans also may be as well ????...no??....The Ring of Fire is a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean...hmmm...just take a look at all that activity going on ...no nothing to be seen here...move on...but no the sky is falling...good luck pacifying all that volcanism all over the globe ....

so in so many words , the ice sheets have been deregulated . awesome what's next on the list ?  oil exploration ? of course . if we can just get those bothersome glaciers to move faster we can get to the huge reserves under the land mass being cock blocked by obama's damn glaciers , what ? you know this is his fault . but with our overlord robot chicken's help we can get back to sustainable  petroleum use for another century and give every elite cock of the walk rooster plenty of time to get the fuck out of here before Yellowstone and the whole underground network of empty oily holes becomes the new perpetual flame . and charbroiled buffalo and earthlings can be served on the moon

Total nonsensical unproven garbage. The sun drives the climate along with given earth magnetism. The seal level is falling. As sea ice increases as well as mountain glaciers all over the world, we've seen for the last 3 years the ocean levels fall. 0.04% of C02 has never and will never determine world temperature, let alone enough to melt ice LOL can cause a mythical runaway greenhouse effect. Water Vapor is a much more viable way to increase warming. The albedo effect in cloud formation reflecting more sunlight than is absorbed by the earth is the result of a solar minimum and especially for the oncoming grand solar minimum.
Kenneth Bynum (11 months ago)
you did not mention the effects on water wells/public waterworks - increased salinity, there is also stagnation, producing thick fogs of mosquitoes, plus diseases locked in permafrost, which, like the term ' permanent ice caps, as we were taught in school; this does not include what i call ' the solar water heater effect' any of you ever wade the shallows of a bay, water gets so hot you have to move into deeper water, and every time the tide goes out, all the heat collected that day, an inch will inundate tens of millions of shallows world wide, the warmer water benefits insects that use water's heat to hatch, and diseases, this increases the rates of fish, and other creatures, extinction you understand why it matters now?

While I appreciate Climate State providing all the info, lose the overly dramatic music. It is an unnecessary attempt to influence our already fragile emotional responses to these images. By the by, I went to and read the peer reviewed journal from which this material is drawn. Highlighting only the most extreme portions is understandable for your purposes, but opens you up to charges of being a climate alarmist. A simple presentation of the information should suffice for people to make up their own minds. Thanks for your contributions to that effort.

And what about the fact that on the other side of Antartica, the ice is growing at a spectacular speed? And the NASA scientists that got stuck in the ice? This is just an old video to create panick...
Chris Castro (1 year ago)
Yeah, and they rarely report glaciers that are "growing".. only eeek! look at that receding ice! The climate has been "changing" for eons, for God's sake! Their Climate Change Agenda is all about $$ & more control over you & me. I am sick of how they lie & program people to dance to their fear-mongering tunes! Their Geo-Engineering.. manipulating our weather, is causing what they "claim" ! get it? They always CAUSE the dire problem and then provide Their sinister solution(s). Think their Chemtrail spraying skies is not causing wacky, extreme weather? They have tech to cause droughts, tremendous flooding, etc. Go have a look at their (Nasa) cloud-making machines pumping out artificial ones. They then "seed" them and park them over an area dumping rain for hrs on end. They block storms, enhance hurricains, can shift our jet stream.. etc. Look into it all. I doubt if much of our weather is "normal" anymore.

Try this take a glass add water add an Ice cube or two, draw a line on the glass were the water line Is, now you see the tops of the cube`s sticking up and would think when they melt the water would go up past the line , It don't WHY co`s Ice has air hole`s In side It so evens out the cube`s .
russell knight (11 months ago)
What a simplistic overview, it would be clever if you were right, but you're not. The relative height difference between an exposed portion of an ice cube in a glass of water & an ANTARCTIC GLACIER is laughably huge. Sea level rise is a forgone conclusion, so suck it up & stop burning carbon. Do you really think you are more knowledgeable than the plethora of qualified scientists devoted to this research?
gary schraa (1 year ago)
+horsefaceemily  take a tall glass , fill it to the top with ice . pour water in to the glass and immediately pour it out into a measuring cup  (not much water) pour it back into the glass and allow all the ice to melt . it doesn't spill over the top , but pour it all into the measuring cup . (lots more water now )  . once in solid form this does not add to water vapor in the atmosphere . but excess amounts added to the sea , then adding to cloud formation this water must come back down and it does so over land in torrential rains that are now breaking hundred year old records every where . the hope was that weight of these ice masses would shift off of land causing it to rise up , in turn preventing warmer sea water from under mining the remainder and this has not happened . instead sea water has made it to the point of pouring downhill onto the land mass as if in to a bowl causing further destabilization  . water vapor transported by jet stream around the world will increase  , as will mega rain storms . yes water evaporates , that's the problem it doesn't disappear , and if it cant be frozen into ice sheets one mile thick than that means some places are going to be a lot wetter . you don't have to believe this you can always keep kidding yourselves why not you'll be dead in forty more years right?

What effects does the upcoming Grande solar minimum have on all of this? I thought the ice was supposed to be completely gone by 2012. The date keeps backing up.
MySuburbanHomestead (11 months ago)
The sea was 20degrees warmer. That was a typo.
MySuburbanHomestead (11 months ago)
Just go to NOAA's website and see for yourself. The world goes through cycles. About every hundred plus thousand years during this ice age the world warms up for around 10k years. We came out of the last dip about 7k years ago.... at which point the world was several degrees WARMER than today and had CYCLES of no ice. Back before this ice age we are in the earth was a global average of around 24degrees Warmer than. It is today.... and the sea was around 29degrees warmer. My point is you have to look deep into the cylcles and look at the whole picture. Not just start at the deepest part of the last grand solar minimum/beginning of the industrial age to find low point to start from. Look at the big picture. Realize that the mass extinction event we are going through is not because of temps or carbon in the air. Realize that we are all sitting here arguing about the wrong thing.
Richard Beaumont (11 months ago)
Deborah B. It would of it were true. Pity that 2014 was a record hot year, then 2015 was a record hot year, then 2016 was yet another record hot year. Without any El Nino push, 2017 was the second or third warmest year. Even the scientists who thought the last 18 years (by which you mean 1996 - 2014) were flat, were saying based on one data record out of five. You cling to that for as long as you can girl, but reality is going to bite you in the butt. Wake up. Even denialists are now admitting it's getting hotter, now they are just arguing about "how much" of the warming is caused by human activities. Since solar activity is actually down since 1990, they are really grasping at straws in continuing to deny the influence of increasing CO2 concentrations.
Richard Beaumont (11 months ago)
woodworks1423 Hansen was right. It's already warmed considerably since 1988 and we cannot "fix it" by now. The best we can do is mitigate the damage and hope it doesn't get too much worse. It's more than half a degree C warmer than in the 1980s, more than a degree C warmer than pre industrial, and what we've put in the system already guarantees another half a degree even if we stopped emitting fossil CO2 today. Global Cooling is BS. The best we can hope for is that the GSM would reduce the rate of rise, for a while. By now the only "argument" you have left is an imaginary conspiracy of scientists across multiple countries and institutions over many decades. Pure fantasy boys.
Richard Beaumont (11 months ago)
Hey bullshitters, I defy anybody of you to find ONE peer reviewed scientific paper that EVER predicted the ice would be gone by 2007, 2012 or even 2020. You won't because it does not exist. No scientist ever claimed it. In fact the IPCC reports claimed loss of Arctic summer sea ice by mid 21st century at the earliest and yet Arctic summer sea ice volumes are already down 70% from 1979, consistently. That's way faster than any scientific prediction. As for the ice sheets themselves, they are predicted to decline over a matter of centuries. It's easy to knock down claims that were never made.

My question is: If the glacier is undermined, and the thickness is sufficiently thick, would the overhang collapse and hit the sea bed? Thus re-grounding the glacier.
Nite Treker (1 year ago)
Ice floats, so why would the overhang hit the sea bed?

It was not long ago that we were trying to be convinced that we had noting to worry about as far as Antarctica was concerned, because the continent was stable. I can't help but wonder what other surprises are in store for us ?
Mordalo (1 year ago)
You really need to keep your lies straight. First you say 10K years ago we had temps like now, then it is 3 millions years ago. Also, 11 feet of ice does not equate to 11 feet of water. Lastly, not a single model has been correct yet....................running out of scary stuff to get funded and keep your jobs?! FYI, the globe has started cooling, now what? Antarctica is gaining ice, so is the arctic, you didn't get the memo? The ice loss in W. Antarctica is being more than made up for in the east. The loss in the west, by the way, is caused not by GW/CC, rathe it is caused by underground volcanic activity. Funny how they never mention that in these scare tactic reports.

Sorry you have to point this out, Two. Most humans are forty years past knowing it. Even Exxon has now admitted it. This is from their new website:   "The risk of climate change is clear and the risk warrants action. Increasing carbon emissions in the atmosphere are having a warming effect. There is a broad scientific and policy consensus that action must be taken to further quantify and assess the risks." I like that last bit, don't you? Exxon knew the risks perfectly well in the 1970s. So anyway, maybe the dimwits, contrarians and shills for the Croak Brothers will now just shut the fuck up and turn out the lights?

To put this into perspective, the probable sea level rise for the end of the century is the equivalent of the entire tidal range for London. The Thames has a tidal range of 7 metres so within a lifetime, low tide will be at the level of the old (20th century) high tide. Now that puts it in context!
Jean (1 year ago)
"We have passed the point of no return". Okay, but is is fasninating to see how they figure out where the grounding lines are. I guess the issue now is, why would we even invest money on coastal areas? And that we need to start immediately to build and design for mass migration. Imagine moving New York City !. The mangroves and coastal biomes will not have time to adapt, that is very serious and depressing in so many ways.
Twostones00 (1 year ago)
Imagine the loss of food production as a result of sea level rise along with the displacement of entire populations. Anyone who has a child today is making a foolish mistake. A child born today has no future.

What If: An unknown Super Volcano like Yellowstone blows up from deep in Central Antarctica. What would be the result? No more coastal cities and changes we can't even imagine.
Chris Castro (1 year ago)
+Siri Erieott .. relax, not going to happen.
Richard Beaumont (1 year ago)
George Petersen what is the point of wild conjectures about super volcanoes when we have a known threat to deal with anyway?
Siri Erieott (1 year ago)
I suspect the result would be a total loss of effective continental ice cover and a 55+ metre rise in sea level in a matter of months to years. Also the massive injection of moisture into the atmosphere, magnifying the green house exponentially. Hundreds of millions to a few billion would die within a decade from heat, drought, flood, fires and wars as conflict would be inescapable.

Chris; If by "seek the truth" you mean get several university degrees in the relevant sciences and mathematics - I already did that back in the '70s and '80s. So, you may continue believing the problems are a figment of your imagination, and you may continue to ignore all the published research on the subject, as that's your choice. Just know that we're laughing at your ignorance.

+Rand Huso ., the problem WE face are the comtrollers who have you & most of the masses royally duped. Seek the truth.

We can't change the weather or stop it but it's facts that we are the first generation to feel this very odd unprecedented weather conditions. Erie Penn. Some key words in every climate scare video; Urgent, Faster, Flood, Rise, Act, Now, Change, Destruction, Capitalism, Oil. Recently Michael "Hockey Schtick" Mann was asked by a judge to provide the court with his "scientific" data to back up his claim , which he failed to do and was held in contempt of court.

Things started looking scary many decades ago, when it might have been possible to do something to change course. Mother Earth is in the driver's seat now. In the words of the shrunken head from Harry Potter, "Hang on Earl, it's going to be a bumpy ride."
Yeoman Brutal Spock (1 year ago)
Kelvin Ham good points...I'm sure there will be a few surprises...like giant ice cubes crashing into coastal land areas or worse in some unlucky locations
Kelvin Ham (1 year ago)
add Greenland ice collapse, thermal expansion of the oceans and it become apparent that a 2mtr rise by end of this century is very conservative. Add other nasty surprises like the Greenland landmass actually being pushed up out of the ocean due to ice mass loss add huge ocean displacement, thingscstart to look scary.
The Three Edged Sword (1 year ago)
Hey, what are the possibilities that there are warm water outlets from deep underground lakes, warmed by deep magma or volcanoes? Could there be an underwater river that's advancing the cold underneath one or both of those glaciers?
The Three Edged Sword (1 year ago)
My specific concern is if the glacial ground line is connecting with yet unknown underground warm water lakes. Say a volcano popped up underneath a glacier, but deep under it; it would in theory create an isolated pocket of liquid water, surrounded by an ice wall. If the glacial ground line met with these theorized lakes, it would increase ice melt, but...but...may also may lead to the release of ,once frozen, ancient pathogens into our ecosystem. Maybe; it's just a thought that does seem to stand on some reason. You could have hundreds of undiscovered ecosystems preserved in the ice and we don't know it. Look at lake Vostok! Vostok is what I'm thinking of...what if a lake Vostok is feeding into the ocean from underneath the ice; and that warm water is melting Antarctica from underneath
Cb Unglesby (1 year ago)
Yes, the area as we now know is loaded with Magma an many Volcanoes, why he did not include this is because the data was not finished , but now is in. The volcanes a major factor in the melt, but the overall conclusion is correct it's unstoppable an will melt much much faster.

Will the increased ocean mass from melting glaciers increase the Moon's gravitational pull on the Earth, and in turn slow down the Earth rotation? If so, then recent reports suggest that the consequence will be an increase in earthquake activity.
MySuburbanHomestead (1 year ago)
No. If you simply look at the Moon's 18 year lunar cycle around the earth you will see why. Also, It has been scientifically prooven that during each grand solar minimum there is a drastic increase in volcanic activity. So... there will be an increasing amount of activity for the next few decades. It has been cooling down for a few years now as we start falling into this next solar minimum. Expect a higher food prices and lots of record snow. Look at what happend during the Dalton Minimum and Maunder Minimum.
Christopher Ellis (1 year ago)
No, because there is no change in the total mass.
Mike Harrington This really is a unfounded theory....if you think about it,it's more like a giant bathtub, slosh to one side, back to the other....
Kelvin Ham (1 year ago)
a basic principal of physics, move mass from center of rotation to the outer rim and rotational speed slows down. There has aready been a noticeable slowing of earths rotation, very small but measurable. This will reverse if ice mass reforms at the poles, earth will rotate faster.
